Chapter 50: Who Do You Think You Are?

Grant scratched his head, unsure how to send such a message.

However, faced with the conditions Victoria had offered, he decided to take the risk.

Soon, a message from Grant sparked heated discussion across the entire Maplewood Hotel internal work group.

[The new general manager of Maplewood Hotel requires all senior management personnel to attend a meeting in the top-floor conference room within half an hour. Anyone who doesn't show up will be considered to have resigned.]

In just about twenty minutes, all the senior executives had gathered outside the top-floor conference room.

Grant was also called to the top floor by those executives over the phone.

These senior leaders were all Billy's subordinates. Over the years, they had benefited greatly from following Billy in managing Maplewood Hotel.

Billy had caused such a scandal and brought such disaster to Maplewood Hotel, yet not one of these executives stepped up to clean up the mess for the hotel.

They all wanted to replace Billy and take over as the hotel's new general manager.

But when it mattered most, no one was willing to step up for the hotel.

Among them, Deputy General Manager Royce Castillo saw Grant and asked, "What does this mean? Why are you sending messages in the group in the name of the general manager? Who gave you the nerve? Do you realize that spreading false information can carry legal consequences?"

Grant was sweating profusely. He was just a small player—he had never encountered such a situation before.

"Mr. Castillo, I... I..."

"You what? I'm asking you—who told you to send this message?" Royce questioned Grant.

Faced with Royce's interrogation, Grant found himself unable answer. He couldn't exactly tell Royce that Victoria had asked him to send the message, could he?

If he said that, it would mean he had failed the assessment.

Victoria's promise to let him work in the general manager's office would likely fall through.

Thinking of how confident Victoria had sounded, Grant straightened his back.

"Mr. Castillo, this message was sent at the request of the new general manager of Maplewood Hotel," he said.

"What? When did the hotel get a new general manager? How come I don't know about it?" Royce's voice rose slightly as he questioned him.

The other executives also began firing off questions.

"That's right. We're all deputy managers, second only to Billy. If Maplewood Hotel is changing general managers, how come we don't know?"

"But you—a temporary deputy manager of the administrative department—know about it?"

"So who exactly is the new general manager?"

The questioning voices grew more numerous. Grant was struggling to hold up, but he still stood straight and didn't reveal Victoria.

"The identity of the new general manager will be revealed in five minutes. Everyone, please remain calm and wait another five minutes."

Seeing that he couldn't get anything out of Grant, Royce muttered a curse as he sat down.

"Maplewood Hotel belongs to Charles. Even if we're changing general managers, he's the one who has to make that call. He hasn't even called me. I'd like to see who dares to brazenly claim to be the new general manager of the hotel."

Everyone echoed Royce's sentiments and took their seats.

Five minutes later, Victoria appeared outside the conference room, dressed in a business suit and high heels.

She looked serious yet composed, and the moment she appeared, she carried an almost queen-like aura.

Having worked with Victoria for nearly a month, Grant felt her commanding presence for the first time.

"Ms. Hughes, they're all here." Grant gestured for Victoria to look into the conference room, somewhat anxiously.

Victoria glanced inside and gave Grant an approving nod.

"Well done. You'll attend the meeting, and starting tomorrow, you'll work in the general manager's office as the office director."

Grant was overjoyed. This was an incredible stroke of luck—becoming the office director was far better than staying in the administrative department.

After all, the benefits of the position were so much better than those of his current one.

"Grant, let's go into the conference room."

Victoria led Grant into the conference room. As soon as they entered, all the executives turned their eyes toward them.

Royce squinted at Victoria, finding her unfamiliar. He didn't recognize her at all.

Who exactly was she?

Could she be the incoming general manager's secretary?

The other executives also whispered among themselves, speculating about Victoria's identity.

Unfazed by the whispers and doubtful looks, Victoria walked straight to the general manager's seat in the conference room, carrying her documents, and sat down.

As Victoria took her seat, the deputy managers' eyes widened in shock.

The hot-tempered Royce, in particular, looked as if he could devour Victoria with his gaze.

That was the general manager's seat—the most important seat in the room.

Everyone in the conference room wanted to sit there, yet none of them dared.

Yet Victoria, a woman who looked to be only in her twenties, sat in there without a care.

Did she really not understand the situation?

Royce slammed the table and stood up, pointing at Victoria as he said, "You have no sense of propriety at all! That's the general manager's seat—how can you sit there? Get up now, or I'll notify your department manager immediately and have you fired."

Royce shot an angry look at the executives beside him.

Then another deputy manager rose to his feet.

"Who are you? Which department are you from? Didn't you receive any training before coming to work at Maplewood Hotel? That's the general manager's seat—not just anyone can sit there."

"Among everyone here, if anyone is qualified to sit in that seat, it would be Royce. It's certainly not your place."

"Who the hell do you think you are?"

These deputy managers usually appeared respectable, but once their interests were at stake, they lost all sense of dignity.

They bickered relentlessly over the smallest gains, even resorting to profanity. There was little to admire about their conduct.

Standing beside Victoria, Grant couldn't help but feel worried for her.

Although he didn't know Victoria's identity or what backing she had, the fact that she sat in that position meant she was very likely to be Maplewood Hotel's future general manager.

If he wanted to become office director, he needed to stay closely aligned with her.

The deputy managers present were extremely agitated. Meanwhile, a deputy manager named Cecil Marshall sat quietly to the side, watching as the others targeted Victoria.

Under the barrage of questions, Victoria finally stood up. Her sharp gaze swept over them.

Everyone fell silent under the weight of her presence.

She spoke calmly, "Who the hell am I? Is it possible that I am Maplewood Hotel's future general manager?"
