The letter
Rhea's POV
"You have a letter" Alysia told me, as she handed me a piece of paper, just before I could enter my room.
"From who?" I asked her.
"I think it's from your father" she lowered her head.
"What does it say?" I asked her, feeling unbothered
My father has never really cared for me, so I don't see the need for him to be sending me letters.
I mean, he never even visited me for once after my wedding.
"I don't know," she shook her head.
"Open it and read it out for me" I requested.
"Here?" She lifted an eyebrow, staring at the guards that stood outside.
"Yes, it's not important" I shrugged.
"I'd still prefer for us to take it inside your room" she insisted.
I took a deep breath, before granting her request.
We entered my room and shut the door behind us.
"To my darling daughter. I know it has been long since we spoke. But, your presence is needed in the packhouse. I'm afraid my time is coming to an end, as the doctors have confirmed I have wolfblood plague. The doctors said I have just a month left to live. Please return home, so we can bury our hatches and share the little moments we can, as father and daughter." Alysia read the letter out loud.
My eyes widened as I fell back on the bed. I didn't know how I was meant to react.
I hated my father, not to the point of death.
"I need to go and see my father" I sniffed, a drop of tear escaping from my eye.
"Alysia'" I called out to her.
"Yes Luna." She responded.
"Please say something. Tell me what I should do" I asked her.
"I don't know Luna. If you feel the need to meet your father, then you should do that. But please inform the king before you leave" she insisted.
"He is already going through alot right now. With the protests and riots happening all over the kingdom. I don't want him to worry about me" I refused.
"He would only worry more when he finds out you left without informing him. On many occasions he had given you instructions which you disobeyed. It didn't turn out so good afterwards. So please tell him" she managed to convince me.
"Okay" I nodded my head, taking the letter from her, and walking towards Kayden's room.
I needed him to see the letter for himself, not because I felt like he wouldn't believe me or trust my words. I just wanted him to know the urgency of the situation.
"Kayden" I knocked on his door, as I tried to open it, but it was locked.
"I'm sorry Luna, but the King went out not too long ago. You can try giving him a call" a guard walked up to me.
"Okay, thank you" I replied, bringing out my phone.
I tried to search for Kayden's number but it wasn't there. Only then, did it dawn on me that I have never spoken to him over the phone before. I don't even have my husband's phone number.
What should I do?.
I need to see my father. I don't want to get there to find him dead already.
"Organise my things. I'm leaving now" I instructed Alysia.
"Have you spoken to the king?" She asked me.
"Yes, I have. I need to leave now, so have warriors and the maids, get my things ready" I instructed.
"Would you like me to come with you?" She asked me.
"No. I'll be fine" I smiled.
I didn't want to get Alysia involved in my own troubles.
In just five minutes, ten cars, and thirty warriors were set to follow me.
I had already reached the exit door, when I heard someone call out to me.
"Rhea, " the voice echoed.
I turned around to see Kayden's mum walking up to me.
Hatred for her, immediately ran through my veins, when I remembered what Kayden had told me earlier.
"Yes" I responded with a false smile on my face.
I could only hope that I had made it look as realistic as possible.
"Where are you off to with so much security? And whose permission did you seek before wondering off with the warriors?" She asked me, and I narrowed my eyes.
I wondered if she was really talking to me.
"Pardon me, but I didn't know the Luna needed permission to move around with warriors?" I lowered my gaze.
I didn't want to be disrespectful, but she was clearly pushing me beyond my limits.
"You need permission from me. And I am not giving you that right now" she was stern.
"I need to go see my father. He is really sick, please grant me permission " I spoke, cursing her on the inside.
I mean, I don't really expect much from a woman who can't even love the son she birthed.
"I said no!" She repeated.
"Please take those things inside" she ordered one of the maids.
I folded my fists in anger.
I really didn't want to have issues with her. Whether she loves Kayden or not, she still birthed him, and that means that I am forced to respect her whether I want to or not.
But should I just let her push me around at the expense of that respect.
"Stop!" I ordered the maid who stopped in her tracks.
"Don't touch any of my stuff" I ordered her.
"But the king's mother has instructed that I…" she stammered.
"I know that, but I believe I can convince her otherwise. You can leave for now, your presence isn't needed" I spoke politely.
"Don't move an inch from that spot" she grinned her teeth, staring at me with deadly eyes.
"How dare you flop my orders!" She yelled at me, trying to land a slap on my face but I held her hand in the air.
"I am not Kayden, I won't take any form of disrespect from you" I shook my head, releasing my grip on her hand slowly.
I was never one to speak back to my elders, or disrespect them. But, she was pushing me to the wall, and I have been pushed around for too long. My body just refused to take any of it anymore.
"Did you just stop me from slapping you?" She was shocked.
And she would be more shocked if she doesn't stop, and leaves me alone.
I know Kayden would be so mad at me for what I am about to do. But, if she can't even love her own son right, then she certainly deserves what I am about to send her way.
