Miscarriage

Shajan's POV:

I went to the doctor to know about Khushi.

"Sir, I am sorry to say this to you. Khushi’s life is in danger. She should undergo surgery immediately. The bad news is..." the doctor said.

"Do anything but please save my Khushi. What do you mean bad news?" I said.

"Khushi had a miscarriage. The baby died in the womb."

"What? But we didn’t find any symptoms of pregnancy."

"You will find the symptoms of pregnancy only after six weeks of baby development in the womb. But miscarriage may happen even in the first three weeks of pregnancy without the notice of you both," the doctor said, giving me a shock.

"But how did it happen? There is no stress for her now. She is so happy at present."

"Reports showed that she underwent physical and mental torture. This stressed her a lot and as she is weak, it led to abortion.

If we examine the reports, we can still see that she is under stress even now. Her fear and stress didn't leave her yet. We know Khushi well as a cardiologist and the one never fears for anything.

But now we don’t understand the reason but she became so panic and worried. She lost her courage and strength. Anyways, let's do the surgery and remove the expired baby from her womb. Expired baby created the infection and because of that, her life is in danger now. Please sign these papers, sir. We need to do the surgery immediately."

I signed the documents related to the surgery.

"Even if we save her now, after the surgery still she has complications. So, treat her with utmost love and care. Try to make her happy and relaxed. Until and unless her fear goes off, she can never be fine. Take care of her."

I nodded and came out. I hugged Abhi and he consoled me.

"What happened to Khushi?" Khushi’s father asked me.

I was about to say about her miscarriage but Abhi stopped me.

"Small surgery has to be done to Khushi for appendix. She will be fine soon," Abhi said.

Operation was done and Khushi came into conscious but didn’t find me.

"Shajan," Khushi said as soon as she came into conscious.

"I will call him," Abhi said.

Abhi came to me.

"I can’t face Khushi. Why did you lie to her parents about the surgery?" I said to Abhi.

"Because if they knew the truth, they wouldn’t ever forgive you. Now you are changed. So, forget it, Shajan," Abhi said.

"I can’t lie to Khushi. I will say her the truth."

"But we know well about Khushi. She will hate you."

"Maybe I deserve her hatred."

I went to Khushi. Khushi looked at me as if asking me why I was not with her when she came into conscious.

"I want to talk to Khushi," I said.

Her parents, sisters and Abhi left us alone in the room. I went near to Khushi and kissed her on the forehead with tears.

"What happened to you? Why are you crying? I am fine now. Don’t worry."

"I want to say one thing to you and after that you may not forgive me," I said.

"What?"

"You had a miscarriage because of the physical and mental stress caused by me."

"Miscarriage? Abortion?"

I looked at her and nodded. Khushi cried a lot and I couldn't stop her. I tried to pat on her shoulder to console her.

"Don’t touch me. I hate you," Khushi said.

"Khushi, I am sorry. I didn’t do this on purpose. I didn't know that you were pregnant. I love you, Khushi," I said.

"I will forgive you if you bring my baby back with your power, money and status? Can you do that? You killed my baby. The moment my child was dead, my love for you is also dead. Don’t try to come closer to me from now. Stay away from me if you want me to be alive. Otherwise you will see me dead."

"Khushi, please don't talk like that," I said.

"Get lost from here," Khushi shouted at me.

I left from the room. After a week, Khushi was discharged. We both behaved normally before our family without showing off the differences.

"Khushi, stay with us until you recover," Khushi’s mom said.

Khushi, please don't go leaving me.

"It's ok, mom. I will stay with Shajan," Khushi said.

"Your sister Vidya will stay with you until you recover," Khushi’s dad said.

"No, mom. You can’t manage everything alone. So, I don’t want Vidya to stay with me."

"No problem, aunty. Shajan will take care of her. He loves her a lot."

"Yes, he cares for me a lot and sometimes, I can’t even bear his caring."

I looked at Khushi as I realized what she meant. I took her to our home and everyone left leaving them. Khushi is in our room and I was in the hall, sleeping on a sofa remembering Khushi’s words. I know Khushi might be crying remembering the death of our unborn child.

Khushi woke up and getting ready. I went to her "Have your breakfast," I said.

Khushi didn’t answer me and got ready to leave.

"Khushi, where are you going?"

Khushi went downstairs and was about to leave. I was angry as she didn’t respond. I held her hand tight and pulled her near to me. Khushi looked at me with mixed feelings of anger, sorrow, and a bit of fear. I remembered the doctor’s words saying to treat her with utmost care and love. My anger went off.

"Where are you going without having breakfast?"

Khushi was a bit frightened by my tight hold on her hand but confused with my words.

"Hos-hospital?"

I understood her fear and left her.

"I am sorry. Are you not feeling now?" I said.

"I am joining in my duty today," Khushi said.

"Take rest for some more days n then..."

"I want peace of mind. I can get it only when I leave you. But I can’t leave you as I promised you. So I want to be busy with my profession at least," Khushi said.

Her words broke my heart as she said she wants to leave me. But I didn't show my tears to her. I sensed the fear of Khushi assuming that I got angry for her words. I know well that my anger is dangerous to her health and her words can hurt me but can't make me angry. I will make her normal with my love.

"Have your breakfast. You are so weak. After that I will drop you," I said.

Khushi had her breakfast. I dropped her at my hospital. I went to my office and Khushi made her way to her office, which was on the fifth floor. She went to the lift and found that it was under repair. She was about to go up the stairs, but I lifted her in my arms.

"Shajan, leave me. This is a hospital and everyone can see us. I told you not to come close to me," Khushi said.

"I am just taking care of my wife."

I dropped her at her office.

"Lunch will be sent to you. Have it on time. Otherwise you will not have mental peace."

"What?"

"Yes. I will be coming here to take away your peace of mind. Take care. Bye. I love you."

Khushi looked at me seriously. I went from there and reached my office.

I love you, Khushi. I will do anything for you. If my anger is dangerous to your life, I will leave it. I will leave anything for you. I will take care of you until you recover completely. After that if you want to leave me, I won’t stop you.
