CHAPTER 31. Very good wife

Paula didn't know what to say.

Was the man addicted to her feeding him?

Helpless, she could only bend her body and cautiously approach him to sit beside him. Then he picked up the chopsticks to feed her.

He ate very slowly and gracefully, and Paula suffered indescribable misery.

She had done a lot of heavy work at the sanatorium that day, so she was exhausted and very hungry. Now he had to feed her slowly.

After all, she was his wife. His feeding her seemed right and proper. It took about twenty minutes for him to finish eating.

While putting down the chopsticks, Paula reached for a tissue to help him carefully wipe the corners of his mouth.

Her facial features looked cold and hard, but when she touched them, they felt soft.

His skin seemed to be in better condition than hers. When she touched him, she felt comfortable—so comfortable that her heartbeat became faster.

After a while, she put down the handkerchief. Only then did she turn around and go to dinner. After a long and tiring afternoon, she felt she could devour all the food on the dining room table.

Under the warm light of the crystal chandelier, the child-faced woman held a bowl of rice and wiped the food off the entire dining table, like an autumn breeze sweeping away fallen leaves.

Her good appetite surprised Robert, Lily, and the others.

On the other hand, Mark sat there, unfazed. His expression was calm as he held the teacup in his hand and took a small sip. "It turns out doing revision is exhausting."

Paula knew he meant his good appetite. She blushed and nodded. "Hmm. I was born stupid, so using my brain is very tiring for me."

Seeing that, there was a slight smile in her voice.

"That's the truth."

Paula heard the sarcasm in his voice. However, he really was stupid.

Pursing her lips, she felt that she didn't need to bother arguing with a disabled person. As such, she continued to wrestle with the rice in front of her in a charming manner.

When she finally finished eating the last dish on the table, Paula patted her round belly and burped. "This is so cozy."

"After eating, it's time to work," said the man in the wheelchair.

"Take me upstairs."

As Paula stretched her body, she glared at him. "You... Aren't you busy studying these days?"

Robert or Neo always carried her up the stairs. Why did she want him to do it today?

"A few days ago I didn't finish listening to a novel, so I asked Robert and Neo to read it to me in the study. Now that I'm done, I naturally want to go back to the room."

Paula was silent.

She had taken a part-time job at the sanatorium, and she had been running around all afternoon. She was completely exhausted.

She could finally go home and eat, but now, did she really want him to take her back to the room?

After hesitating for a moment, she finally walked over and pushed her wheelchair.

I just need to carry her up the stairs. It won't be too tiring. But unexpectedly, the wicked man also wanted her to bathe him.

He even mischievously said, "You did an excellent job on our wedding night. Do it again. I believe that you can do it."

Paula was sorely tempted to stuff a towel into her mouth and shove her head into the bathtub.

Regardless of how he felt inside, she restrained herself and solemnly helped him bathe, giving him a massage. She even finds a comfortable set of pajamas for him to wear.

After doing all that, Paula is completely exhausted. Still, Mark didn't let her go. He wants her to read him the news of the day.

Tired and sleepy, she could hardly help it. Eyes open, but still leaning against the headboard and reading out the news for him.

"Recently, there was a mysterious shareholder who invested in the grant group. Your share price and its market value are increasing again and again. Based on close sources, that mysterious shareholder seems to be the same person who supported the Lynch Group's return at the time. So..."

He couldn't understand or comprehend what he read. After reading for a while, he sleepily leaned against the headboard and fell asleep.

As she fell asleep, she kept mumbling and repeating the contents of the news.

Lying on the pillow next to her, Mark looked at her with deep eyes for a long time. Finally, he covered her with a blanket.

"The most important thing between husband and wife is trust. You don't trust me, so you don't tell me everything you do."

Reaching out, he gently stroked her silky hair. "If you can't trust me and rely on me completely, I can't let you stay by my side for long."

As he looked at her, he couldn't help but remember the scene from more than ten years ago.

He was eight years old at the time, sitting in the back seat of the car and listening to her parents argue endlessly in front of her.

"If you trust me, you won't do these things without me realizing!"

"I don't want you to worry about me!"

"If you had told me these things, we'd still have room to maneuver!" But now what? You acted on your own initiative and ruined everything!"

Their dispute irritated him, and the eight-year-old sighed and put on his headphones, turning up the volume to maximum.

After an unknown period of time, he leaned back on the chair and fell asleep.

Later, he was awakened by excruciating pain.

That day, he lost both his parents at once.

They said his parents' car accident was an accident, but only he knew it wasn't an accident.

That day, her father scolded her mother and stated that she should not let Uncle Zerrick and Aunt Milley manage her supplies. His father wanted to take his mother, Uncle Zerrick, and Aunt Milley to get his shares back.

Paula was too tired, so she slept soundly all night. She didn't even have any dreams.

The next morning, she was woken up by Kelley, the housekeeper. "Mum, Mr. Mark said he wants to eat the breakfast prepared by you."

Stunned, Paula opened her eyes and looked at Kelley.

"Could you ask him to choose another day?"

She was too tired from the previous day. It was only six in the morning, and she still hadn't slept enough.

Finding herself in a bit of a quandary, Kelley frowned. "But Mr. Moore was thinking about how he couldn't eat the breakfast you cooked the morning after his wedding. So he said that today I have to eat the breakfast you made. Otherwise, he wants me to stop and go.

Paula was naive and kind, so she naturally couldn't stand Kelley being fired for his laziness.

Therefore, she stretched her body, forcefully raised her spirits, and stood up from the bed. Then she went downstairs to prepare breakfast.

For the past two years, he has been used to cooking breakfast for his mother. So this was not a difficult task for Paula at all.

But no matter how skilled she was, she still couldn't help but feel sleepy. On several occasions while preparing breakfast, she almost fell asleep standing up.

Fortunately, Kelley was by her side, reminding her to be careful. Thanks to that, she did not fall asleep or get hurt.

Under his incessant quacking, she finally finished making breakfast.

"That's pretty good." The man sitting in the wheelchair ate the porridge he gave her while praising her softly.

He couldn't see how sleepy Paula was at all. Instead, he started praising her happily. "Since you're used to getting up early, I'll let you take care of my breakfast all this time."

There was a tinge of satisfaction in his deep voice. "Paula, you really are a good wife."

Paula could barely stand up.
