Chapter 30
Chapter 30
I wanted to escape Markus when we arrived at the villa. He was worse than Marko. He almost didn't want to leave me. After eating, we locked ourselves in the room. He hugged me while I was on the bed. He kissed me on the neck, on the cheek, on the arm. He does that over and over again. It was obvious that he missed me a lot.
At ten o'clock in the evening, the maid knocked on the door to inform Markus that they had a meeting at the villa. But Markus didn't want us to be separated. He said the meeting had been rescheduled because he was busy.
I wanted to roll my eyes at his answer. We weren't doing anything in the room. I was already numbed in our position. We were lying down while he was behind me. Hugging. Feeling like I'm going to disappear every moment.
When three in the morning came, Markus fell asleep soundly. When I was sure he was fast asleep, I carefully removed his hand from my waist and got off the bed.
I'm so thirsty. I want to drink some water. I've been feeling this way for a while. So I decided to leave the room and go to the kitchen. I just hoped I wouldn't run into any vampires in the hallway. Even if they know Markus is with me, it's still inevitable that someone will be thirsty for my blood.
Every step of my feet is accompanied by the pounding of my chest. Next time I'll put a pitcher in the room, so I don't have to go out at an inconvenient time.
I took a deep breath when I reached the kitchen safely. I easily found the refrigerator and quietly went there. I didn't bother turning on the lights because there were small dim lights hanging on each wall. The surroundings weren't completely dark.
I poured it into the glass that was placed in the cupboard.
"So you're still awake. You're not feeling sleepy?" said a voice beside me. The sleepy tone of her voice was the first thing I noticed.
I almost spit out the water I was drinking in shock. I didn't even hear her footsteps.
It's Sabrina!
She laughed softly when she saw my surprised expression. It wasn't a laugh of joy but rather a sarcastic tone.
A little water dripped down my lips. I wiped it with my hand. It's a good thing I held the glass tightly, or I might have dropped it and broken it.
"Sabrina..." I called her name. Still startled by her presence. Even saying her name felt like a thorn in my throat. Knowing that she is Markus' legal wife.
In the few days I've been here, the last thing I want is for Sabrina and me to cross paths.
"Are you enjoying yourself here? How does it feel to be played with without you knowing? Is it fun? Exciting?" she asked. Her voice was calm. Even the expression on her face didn't show any distaste. But her eyes. I could see the hatred towards me.
She was wearing a robe and her straight hair was down. It was obvious she had been drinking wine because I could smell it from where I was standing. She didn't look drunk. The way she stood was still straight. She was leaning against the countertop opposite me. She had both of her arms resting on it.
I was alarmed by her question. Was she just playing with me?
"What do you mean?" I frowned when I asked. Nervous.
Even if she were to slander Markus on me, I wouldn't believe her. I know she just wants me to stay away from Markus. I shouldn't just believe her.
"Did you really have amnesia? Or are you just pretending to get revenge on Markus?"
"Get straight to the point. I don't understand you, Sabrina". What revenge is she referring to?
"You know what I mean," she said. As if she was absolutely certain that I knew everything.
"I don't know what you're talking about. If you want me to leave Markus, it's impossible because he's the one who's coming to me. That's why you should tell him that, not me," I said boldly.
Is she scaring me?
Sabrina laughed sarcastically. She wasn't affected by what I said. She seemed to be very relieved to see the annoyance in my eyes.
"Oh my...look at yourself how ridiculous you look in front of me."
"If you're done insulting me. I'm leaving. I don't have time to argue with you", I turned my back on her.
"There's a lot you don't know, Celestine. Don't trust Markus too much. You know I don't like you, but I don't want to see you being used. I'm a woman too."
I was stopped by what she said. I looked at her. The happiness in her eyes was shining because she saw my curious eyes.
"Do you really trust him, huh? Will you be able to trust him when you find out the truth?"
"Of the two of you? I trust Markus more than you." I don't know if I'm convincing myself that I'll still trust Markus no matter what. What I said lacks conviction.
"I hope you'll still be that strong when you find out everything," she continued after me.
A question arose in my mind. Should I trust Markus?
I hurriedly walked out of the kitchen where Sabrina was. A thought suddenly occurred to me. Sabrina must know something about what happened before. But I'm sure she wouldn't tell me all that.
If I were to ask Markus. Would he tell the truth? I wanted to hang my head because of my thoughts. I suddenly doubted Markus.
I arrived at our room. Markus was still sound asleep. My memory suddenly flashed through my mind. Where the houses were burning. I hugged my mother. I asked her who did this to them. Sullivan was her last word.
Who should I tell everything to? I don't know anyone here who will tell me the truth. Mr. Ares? Will he tell me? Knowing that Markus is his boss.
"Celestine, are you okay? I've been calling you for a while, but you're just standing there," Markus asked me. I didn't realize that I was still standing in front of the door. I didn't even know I was just dazed.
Was I thinking too deeply? That's why I didn't see that Markus had woken up?
"Did something happen?" Markus asked cautiously.
I changed my facial expression. I smiled and approached him. He shouldn't doubt my actions. I need to investigate what happened before. There's definitely nothing wrong with knowing everything.
"Nothing, I was just thinking about something" he hugged me as soon as I sat on the bed.
"Do you remember anything?"
I secretly raised an eyebrow. His question seemed to mean something else.
"Is there anything I should remember?" I asked him back.
I stared at his face and eyes to see his reaction, but nothing changed. Or he's just excellent at keeping secrets.
"What's it supposed to mean?" he asked me, cluelessly.
I shrugged.
"Maybe you don't want me to remember"
"Fuck! Why do you think that? Of course, I want you to remember. So you can remember how much you love me."
"Markus" I rolled my eyes. I didn't know he was a cheesy one.
"What? It's true. You don't remember me, you don't remember our past either. Even me, my name. My existence" said Markus.
I can't believe I have amnesia. I don't remember anything about the accident that would cause me to have amnesia. It's so impossible that I just suddenly forgot everything.
Come to think of it. I don't remember anything from my past. I only remember a limited scenario. I've only paid attention to it now.
Someone is trying to ruin my life right now, my dream about Markus, the vampires' reaction when they see me. It all doesn't match up with what I'm thinking.
"Are you really okay? You look bothered. Did something happen when you went out? And what were you doing out at this hour?" Markus asked.
Why is that? There's no sign that he's hiding anything. The worry in his voice is more visible than just curiosity. I'm confused.
"Nothing really, Markus. I just got thirsty," I explained. I'm not lying because that's exactly what I did downstairs. Except for what Sabrina told me.
"Why didn't you wake me up? Hmm?" His embrace tightened from behind. Markus rested his chin on my shoulder. I saw in my peripheral vision that he was looking at me.
My chest was pounding so loudly. Markus wasn't as clingy as I remembered. Marko's behavior was more like this. Markus had a strict personality and always wore a serious face. But Markus is the one with me. His eyes are blue.
"What? Is there dirt on my face?" Markus asked again, laughing. "I miss you, Celestine. I thought I could never hug you this tightly again."
I couldn't say anything. The words didn't want to come out of my mouth. Maybe he could sense what was on my mind. I didn't want to feel this way. I had a slight suspicion about Markus.
I hope my memory comes back so I don't have to think about things like this anymore.
