Chapter 25
Chapter 25
We got home from the beach late at night. During the long drive with Markus, I fell asleep in the car. So when we got to the villa, I didn't feel sleepy anymore.
I fell asleep at 3 a.m. I didn't want to wake up because I was up late, but I suddenly remembered that I had to go to work today.
Markus told me before getting out of the car that we would go to work together. I agreed, but on one condition. He would only drive me to the parking lot. I don't want my workmates to know about the two of us. In my current situation, I don't want them to gossip about me, especially since people at the company know that Markus is married.
Even if the world turned upside down. I'm still his mistress. I don't know why I agree with this setup. But maybe even if I refuse what Markus wants, he still won't let me go.
"Text me when you have your lunch break. Let's eat together," he said. We were in the company parking lot. Luckily, Markus' car windows were tinted so it was safe that no one would see us.
"No. Let's just eat together at the villa."
"I don't take no for an answer. If you don't want to eat together, you better not go to work," he said seriously. He unbuckled his seatbelt, about to get off, but I stopped him.
How annoying!
"I agree, let's eat together" I said. I gave up on his manipulative nature.
"Good. See you at lunch. I'll text you," he said with a grin.
"O-okey..." Damn his sexy grin!
I got out of the car first. I walked straight into the elevator. I didn't wait for him. It wasn't good to see us together.
Before the elevator closed, I saw him walking forward. There was no hurry in his movements. Both of his hands were in his pockets. His grinning face was still plastered. Teasing me. He was wearing black sunglasses to hide his red eyes. The staff knows it's blue. So to avoid confusion, he wore glasses.
Why is he so handsome? Shit!
I rolled my eyes at him as the elevator door closed.
Just a few minutes later, I arrived at the office where my old department was. I miss it so much!
"Oh-em-geee! Celes? Is that you?!" Lindy squealed when she saw me coming. She ran to me and hugged me tightly. "I miss you! Why did you just come back to work now? I thought you had already left work!" she continued.
I laughed softly. I hugged her back tightly.
"I got sick, the doctor just cleared me to go to work," I secretly sighed. Luckily, I quickly thought of an excuse before going to work. Knowing Lindy, she was very curious about things.
"You didn't even call me to come visit you! What's the point of being your friend?" she said in a sullen voice.
"Sorry, Lindy. I forgot to use my cellphone. I just wanted to relax in the apartment."
'I hope she believes my alibi' I said to myself.
"Is that so? That's why, no matter how much I knock on your apartment, you don't answer."
She went to the apartment?! I didn't show her how upset I was about what she said. If she did, she'd catch me lying.
"It's a good thing you went to work, Celes. I was planning to fire you because I don't want a lazy employee." Madam Violeta interrupted us in our conversation.
Lindy and I immediately parted ways when hugging each other as soon as we heard Madam Violeta's voice.
She raised her eyebrows as she looked at me. She was still rude to me up to this day. I don't know why her blood is boiling over me. I haven't done anything wrong to her.
"Madam Violeta! Good morning!" I greeted. I was surprised by her arrival.
I said I missed working, but that doesn't mean I missed Madam Violeta. Just the look on his face scared me.
"Finish your hugs, you two, you have a lot of work to do, Miss Delaney. Start finishing it while it's still early." Even her voice was very strict.
"Yes Madam Violeta," I answered politely.
I saw her sharp eyes before she left us. Lindy and I both sighed. We both looked at each other and laughed.
"Madam Violeta still hasn't changed," I said, still laughing softly.
"She's an old maid. That's what happens when you don't have sex in your whole life," Lindy replied with a chuckle.
"You're really a joker, Lindy."
"Hmp! I'm not! My advice to you, Celes. Have sex as soon as you get a boyfriend so you don't end up like Madam Violeta."
I just let her rant next to me. We went back to our respective cubicles. Madam Violeta wasn't kidding when she said I had a lot of work to do. There were piles of folders on my desk. I don't know if I'll have to work overtime later. I hope not. I'm still sleepy.
I started working. I focused on what I had to do first. A few hours passed. It was lunch break already.
"Celes, let's go on a lunch break! You can do that later", Lindy called to me.
"I'm still full. You go first. I'll finish this," I replied without looking at her.
"Hey! Do that later! You won't get an award when you finish that," Lindy whined.
"I'm still really full, Lindy. I'll just eat later when I'm hungry. You eat first, okay?"
Lindy tried to force me a few times, but I didn't budge. I wanted to finish at least half of it today. I don't want Madam Violeta to scold me, she turns into a dragon if I don't finish this.
I touched my temple. I was sleepy. I yawned.
My cellphone rang but I ignored it. I continued typing on the computer.
My cellphone rang four times before the call stopped. It's a good thing the caller stops. I don't want to be disturbed right now. Madam Violeta won't scold the caller, but me if I don't finish this.
"Miss Celestine"
I looked up when I heard Mr. Ares' voice. He was in front of my cubicle. His face was unreadable.
I stood up.
"Mr. Ares. Why? Do you have an order?" I asked.
"Marko called you. You're not answering his call. He seemed to be in a bad mood because you didn't answer," he said.
I held my forehead. It slipped my mind that Markus and I were going to have lunch together.
"Go now while he's not freaking out in the office"
I looked at the pile of folders on my table. Whose anger should I be afraid of? Madam Violeta's or Markus'?
"Leave that job of yours alone. You know Marko, he's hot-headed. Everyone in the company might get fired if you don't go."
I know what Mr. Ares is saying is exaggerated, but with the attitude that Markus has, he would surely do that.
"I forgot that we were going to have lunch together," I said, biting my lip. I'm nervous. Guilty at the same time.
"Of all the things you could forget, why is it your lunch break together? Let's go to his office. I'll have your food delivered too." Mr. Ares said in a troubled voice. He didn't know what to do. There was no anger in his tone of voice. His fearful voice became more prominent.
I nodded. I couldn't say anything. I made a new mistake against Markus. I didn't know that when I got back to work, I would be bombarded with work. I completely forgot about the lunch break. I also didn't feel hungry because Markus and I had eaten a heavy meal before leaving the villa.
Mr. Ares and I were both silent as we walked down the hallway. All I could hear was the sound of our footsteps. I could even hear my chest beating because I was so nervous. There weren't many people on this floor because it was their lunch break. The silence didn't help my nervousness.
I swallowed hard when we reached the door to Markus' office. Mr. Ares knocked. I wanted to stop him because I wasn't ready.
"Marko, Miss Celestine is here. I'll let her in. I'll order your food too." Mr. Ares informed.
We didn't hear any answer from the other door. I looked at Mr. Ares. My eyes were begging for help.
"I don't want to go inside, Mr. Ares." I said with a fearful voice.
Mr. Ares laughed softly. What was so funny about what I said? He was the one who was afraid and nervous of Markus earlier.
"Marko won't hurt you. He's just angry, but he won't do anything to you. So relax. Take a deep breath. Use your charm when he's in a bad mood. It's effective"
I frowned at what he said.
"Is that a joke?"
"It's true. Come in now"
I stopped his hand.
"Mr. Ares, I don't want to go inside. I want to live", I begged him.
"Silly" Mr. Ares tried to hold back his laughter. He opened the door and gestured to me to go inside.
I slowly walked inside Markus' office. I looked back at Mr. Ares before he closed the door.
