Damian's POV I could hardly believe what I was hearing from him, what he was asking us to do. For God's sake, he was asking us to turn around right now. He couldn't possibly be serious. How did he even think about it? Because there was no way I could reason and see any logic behind returning back to the place where we had almost died a moment ago. What's more, he wanted us to go there willingly. He must be out of his mind. A gun at the random last soldier that made us all wonder what the hell was up with him. Also, for him to actually agree with him as was evident in his previous words that supported him or at least seemed jovial enough, I knew that he must also think that it was a good idea to figure out what was happening. He's just not happy to be alive anymore, I thought to myself, shaking my head as I waited. To see what he would say, he had just finished explaining and was still giving us time to think. But suddenly he turned back when I questioned him about to leave. I felt uneasy watching him almost go alone. He was waiting for us right now. I didn't know whether he was going to turn back and join us if we didn't follow him or maybe he was going to continue going off by himself, deciding that he didn't need our help, which might force us to follow him as we didn't want him to get hurt. Or maybe we would just go so that we would save our lives. I didn't really know what was going to happen afterwards because I was pretty sure that a normal leader wouldn't swallow his pride and follow the majority when he had something in his mind that he wanted to do. This wasn't a democracy or something like that, and even if there were still instances where it could be ruled with force. "Are you coming?" he asked, his voice steady and brave. There was no hint of fear in his voice, almost as if to tell me that he knew exactly what he was doing. I knew him more than anyone, and therefore I knew more than anyone that he didn't know exactly what he was doing, the way he made it seem. However, I also knew that I had a point, but so did he. If we figured out what they were planning, even if we didn't engage in the fight, then we were definitely going to have a nice way of catching them the next time they were in action, and then it wouldn't be so difficult for us to track them after all, and we might not end up waiting for so long. At the thought of waiting, I almost considered it, but then I decided against it. There was actually no point in all this. I was still thinking when Robert suddenly stepped forward, joining Jax by his side. I was completely frozen and petrified. He was joining her cause. What did that mean? Suddenly, the other guy joined also behind him, leaving just me alone out and looking at them all. I still felt very sceptical. I knew how bad it would make me look if I didn't join them now that everybody had a common goal. What's more, I also knew that I couldn't survive on my own in this place. Oh wait, I could, but how would I be able to answer him when we got back home? Saying that I deserted them in the middle of their mission. Now if it was all of us that left, then, well, we didn't exactly desert him, even though we did by disobeying his orders and leaving entirely. But if it was that way, it would be manageable for everyone. But right now, it wasn't. I took a deep breath, knowing that I just had to deal with it. It was annoying, very annoying, but it was the situation right now. I took a step over and joined behind them, deciding not to talk about it if I was going to do it. I could almost see a soft smile on his lips after he saw that he had everyone on his side. I didn't know whether he was actually smiling, as he was at the front and I couldn't see him, but I imagined that that was what he was doing right now as he started walking steadily. We followed his lead until he got somewhere and crouched to watch them. They were just within view right now. We couldn't exactly see what they were doing, but from what it seemed like, they were camping or something. "We are hiding," Jackson explained. "We don't want them to know that we are here yet, because that might give us some problems later on. We are just here to spy. We can still escape and run away like we had planned to before, but we just need to know what they are talking about. We will have to go further so that we can hear them." Robert said, "I looked at him in surprise, feeling very angry immediately, what was up with him suddenly becoming so invested in this little crazy plan that he was even giving pointers on how to proceed to bring us all to our deaths." I expected everyone here to be offhanded, but as it happened, maybe they weren't doing it by force after all, and were actually interested in what he said. Was I the only one who saw the madness in this little plan, was I the only one who saw the foolishness in risking our lives for nothing at all, when we could easily have run away and everything would be over in a couple of minutes time. I took in a deep breath, knowing that if the society was all for something, then there might be something wrong with me instead of something wrong with the society. I didn't want to be the one against everyone, so I decided to, for once, look at it from another point of view. When I thought about it that way, Jackson wasn't exactly planning to kill us or something, he just wanted to know what was happening, and we got our initial information before he left once again. He told me to be careful, as long as we were careful, we would be able to do this and still escape. When I thought about it like that, and contemplated it for a couple of more seconds in my mind, I nodded, feeling a lot more relaxed. I noticed with a start that all of them had already inched forward except me, so I did the same. We were forward just in time to hear them speak. "Well, they are gone now," the news says we can now storm the city like we planned to do before, the leader said to the remaining ten men. "We are just ten," another one said, "what can we possibly do?" The leader continued glaring at his soldiers. "Nobody in the city there has firearms and I'm pretty sure none of them are as strong as we are. The ten of us would easily be able to sack the city if there's no soldier there and nobody to defend it at all," he said, his voice stern as he looked at his men. "But there many," one of them said once again, "if we go in like that, even though they aren't skilled, through sheer force and through the advantage of numbers, they might be able to put up a resistance against us and probably even defeat us entirely," he said, looking fearful. "Imagine ten strong werewolves, even though they aren't good at fighting, maybe they are good at bricklaying or building or stuff like that, imagine them attacking us with random weapons and other stuff, whatever stuff they have, they wouldn't be able to dodge bullets off our guns," he said, bringing out a gun and handing it to the person who had just complained. "Now that's enough of that," he said, "let's head over now and finish off what we wanted to do in the first place. Don't worry, nothing will go wrong, I can assure you of that." With that, they started walking away, their voices fading into the distance. I looked at Jack and saw him staring into space with his eyes wide. He couldn't believe what was happening, that it was going to be so. I took in a deep breath, knowing that things were about to get tough. "What do we do now?" I asked. Something told me that we weren't going to be heading home anytime soon. I felt a chill down my spine when I thought about everything that was going to go down now. With the way he was thinking, the look on his face as he was thinking, I knew that he was about to make a drastic decision. He probably wanted to tell us to follow or something like that. I couldn't see how we were going to defend when we were just four against the ten of them, but I knew that he was going to try. He still had the thoughtful expression on his face, even though I thought that the answer was obvious. It made me actually start to wonder whether he was going to choose to do something entirely instead of what I thought. I waited patiently, wanting to see what he would come up with. I looked around me and noticed that everyone was waiting actually. We all wanted to see what he would say as our leader.
