Damien's POV
I knew that things were closing in on us when it started, and one round of them came and attacked us, and immediately after, another round came. This wasn't the way it was supposed to be. I expected a couple of people to fight against us, and then finally, when we defeated them, they would be gone, and it would be over. Then we would keep one of them or maybe two of them and ask them questions later, but never had I actually expected that it would go on like this with round after round of them coming up.
Honestly, it was a wonder why they didn't attack us all at once because I knew that if they all came in full force at us, then it was going to be extremely difficult for us to defend. They were coming slowly, whittling down our forces with some kind of goal in mind. I knew without a doubt that these people were organized because this wasn't supposed to be how it was.
I honestly felt a little worried about how it would end because these people obviously had a plan, and we didn't. We came here bringing only 10 men and no backup at all. If it continued like this, then we were going to tire out. If we didn't get beaten up entirely, then we would be the ones captured and taken away to be held hostage instead of the other way around that we had planned. We came here looking to be the predator, but here we were the prey itself. It felt very frustrating to me.
I looked at my friend Jackson, the one who had gathered us here, and wondered what he was thinking. He needed to come up with a solution and fast because the mission was already a disaster. We should pack away, I shouted to him over the noise of the crowd. It was probably a little foolish of me to let everybody know what I was planning and simply expose the plan to everyone.
However, things were just a bit too personal at that moment, and I couldn't start coding my words or putting it in some kind of secret way so that only he would understand. I couldn't think of anything at that moment other than the fact that we needed to retreat. That was the only option that I had that I was sure that would actually be accomplished easily before we tried anything or maybe tried to do a couple of tricks who knew what the results would be, and I was pretty sure that it was going to be difficult for us to achieve anything with them when we needed to use the opportunity now that we still had it and escape before it was too late for us. If not, we might just be destroyed.
He looked hesitant and pushed aside the person he was dealing with, bringing out his gun and firing two shots into his forehead immediately and ending him there and then. It was pretty cool the way he did those stuff, and what's more, I could do those stunts also, but I knew that it would not be enough. More than once now, he had been nicked by the men who were definitely not trying to capture him because they were trying deadly moves. They probably wanted to kill him right now. Maybe they didn't know that he was the son of the Alpha. If not, they would try to hold him hostage in order to gain some advantages, but they were making it a bit too serious, and I knew without a doubt that this was a matter of life and death and if we did not handle it carefully, then we were going to be on the losing end in the end.
I took a deep breath, wondering whether he would finally get the sense to do what I said and leave it be. It was a stalemate. No, it was a loss for us, and it could get much worse if we kept on with it. One of the good qualities of a leader was the ability to call everyone back and decide against going through with a particular plan that was obviously not going to work. I looked at him, waiting for him to make that call, but he didn't. He had a resolute expression on his face, and I knew from that moment on that he would try to push through, despite the difficulties of the situation.
I shook my head, knowing that it was not going to be easy for us to do this with him having this kind of adamant expression on his face. I might have given the order for us to retreat, but it was doubtable if anyone would actually listen to me when I said it. I needed to be a lot more tactical if I was going to bring us out of this mess that he had caused. Then again, I knew that I didn't have the time, and with the people that I was dealing with, even though I was pretty much invisible, I couldn't afford to think of anything fancy because my hands were completely full, and I needed to keep on making my moves as swift as I could.
I took a step back and tripped the man that was about to attack me before bringing out my gun and, as usual, planting two clean gunshots in his head. This was about my favorite move in this entire fight, making a move to confuse or disorient my opponent and finishing it off with a couple of gunshots. Robert, who seemed to be the only other prominent person here, was going about it the old-fashioned way with his claws and attacking anyone before they even had the guts or the accuracy to shoot. He was as quick as lightning, even dodging a couple of bullets while in his attacking phase, but even he was getting overpowered, and as strong and powerful as he was, I knew that he was getting tired with time.
We couldn't continue like this because if we did, it was going to end in a complete disaster. We had to retreat. I called once again, blaring at Jackson and waiting for him to answer. Jax was someone that I trusted a lot to do the right thing when the opportunity came, but why was he stalling this time around? What was going through his mind? The people were obviously not going to stop coming anytime from now, so it was best for us to retreat before it was too late, but he kept on with our little attack when there was obviously no light at the end of the tunnel.
I shook my head, knowing that he might very well be the death of us. As his loyal friend, it was probably the only thing I could do to support him, so I decided to just relax and do whatever he wanted us to do. At least it wouldn't be just me dying. If I died, he would die too, I was sure of it. So even though I was supposed to exchange my life for his and give mine up in order to that he would survive, I didn't feel like doing that at all and comforting myself with knowing that I would make quite certain I didn't die until he did, and then I would be able to do so, because of how collaborative I would be. I didn't want to die for no reason on account of his foolishness and this lack of decision in this crucial moment.
"Hold on," he said, finally speaking after all my words of advice. I looked at Robert incredulously, wondering whether this wasn't an appropriate time for him to cut in and knock some sense into the little boy's head. I noticed then that he was in his verbal form and couldn't exactly talk yet, but he had a certain look on his face that, if I translated that it meant that he was incredulous at what he had decided. I shrugged as I continued having no other choice.
At least he also knew that this decision was not going to come to anything good. This was about the worst decision that Jack could ever have made when he was making it. I would give literally almost everything to find out whatever was going through his head at that moment because of the decision he is making as a result of his thoughts. He must be pretty insane or maybe clinging to the delusion that things would get better when obviously they weren't. If this was the aim of the Alpha by giving him this mission so that he would become a better leader where he was getting what he wanted, this boy needed a lot of things to work on. But it was questionable whether he wouldn't be dead before he lands there because as things were going now, it could very well be that way if nothing happened in the nick of time to save him from himself and to save us from our enemies who were closing in on us quickly.
Jack was going to regret this if it didn't work out well, but if it did, well, I would be surprised.
