Chapter 29 I must seduce the Emperor to get what I want

Chapter 29 I must seduce the Emperor to get what I want
Amarien’s POV

Cough!

Cough!

Cough!

The emperor coughed blood and stumbled to his knees. The guards quickly surround him, helping him to his feet.

“Your majesty! Are you alright!”

It took me way too long to notice the old man was still in the room, humming. The break in his tune brought his presence back. He turned to all of us and said.

“The emperor needs to be at rest in the palace.” The old man said. “I could tell from his voice that there is an organ failure from the red moon poison effect. The red moon poison never fully leaves a man. You need to get him back within an hour, or else he'd be dead.”

No one waited for a second thought. The Emperor was carried back to his horse and rode back to the palace.

Malrick, his new head guard, covered me with a wool cloth, mounted me on a horse that rose behind the emperor’s carriage.

When we arrived at the palace, it was almost sunrise, but the emperor was still alive. I watched them carry him up to the imperial apothecary.

Everything happened so fast that my mind couldn't process the inhuman look of the emperor. Still shaken, I said a prayer for him, and then Malrick escorted me back to my quarters.

When we got to my door, I whipped around and poured out the question that had been burning in my heart.

“Have you seen Prince Daevir?” I asked Malrick.

Malrick bowed solemnly and shook his head no.

“After reporting your safety to his father. He has retreated to the Southern borders to continue the war with Alpha Theron.”

I leaned on the wall, my heart heavy.

He's gone.

“Is there anything you want me to help you with before I leave, Concubine Amarien?” Malrick broke my thoughts, bringing me back to this shadowy hallway.

I shut my eyes. But then, a thought pierced my head.

“General Malrick,” I quickly said. “Please let me know when the emperor has recovered. I would like to finish my assignment with him once he is well.”

There was a hesitation in Malrick’s eyes. But he nodded and walked away.

I shut the door behind me as I stormed into my room and leaned on the window. There is a pot of Alpachipa roses that has bloomed. Grandma Chichi said the full  moon helps the roses bloom.

It's still a full moon night.

Daevir.

Please don't hate me.

Please come back.

I felt my heavy heart weaken my bones. I snatched a stick of rose and fell on my bed, holding the rose to my chest.

“Daevir…” I whispered.

My mind roamed. It roamed through the thought I had at the door of my room. Quickly, I found strength and sat up.

I bit my lips.

“I need to find a remedy for this once and for all,” I said to myself. It kills me to see Daevir deteriorate to the point where he'd hate himself. What if he harms himself?!

The thought broke my heart.

I can never make that happen.

Grandma Chichi had solutions to anything I could possibly think of. She wrote books on her remedy, and though I wish I could keep her works, I couldn't because I was taken away too soon to be with the emperor in the palace.

Could it be that Grandma Chichi could have written a remedy to stop the werewolf urges and end them once and for all?

I recall she seems pretty interested in werewolves at some point. But I was too busy being a child to pay attention to everything she was saying.

“Grandma ChiChi…I wish you were here.” I shut my eyes, “I wish you could tell me what to do now. I wish you could give me a clue.”

The night breeze blew into my room. I opened my eyes and watched the pot of roses shake in the breeze. I quickly rose to my feet and walked up to the window.

I could see the villages beyond the palace. I could even see my village. Yes, the full moon was so bright it lit up the kingdom.

And then I saw a twinkling of a bright star pierce the sky.

Oh my…

That's it!

Tears pooled down my cheeks. “Thank you, Grandma ChiChi.”

I know what to do!

I stirred around and jumped across the room to my little wardrobe.

The plan isn't a simple one. But it must be done.

First thing to do.

I must return to my village and head for Grandma Chi-Chi's house. Surely she has a book or two buried somewhere that could tell me of a remedy for Daevir.

But no more sneaking in and out of the palace. I will go with the emperor's permission.

I held my breath.

Yes, I might have to be a bit more submissive to his desires. But he won't go far with me. Not in that state he is.

If I can convince the Emperor to let me travel to find a remedy. I will definitely find one.

Saving Daevir won't be something I must rush into. It's something I must be very careful about. So careful like Grandma Chichi’s herbal portion. Grandma Chichi says we don't find the best solution in haste. A wrong move can ruin the whole cauldron.

Daevir…I promise you. I won't let you suffer.

I'll heal you even if I die trying.
