Chapter 150 Killing the Enemy

Chapter 150 Killing the Enemy

ARYA’S POV

"That's better," Marco murmured. "See? This doesn't have to be unpleasant."

He kissed me, his hands roaming my body. He squeezed my breast and pinched my nipple.

I kissed him back, my stomach churning with revulsion.

"I'll give you everything," he promised between kisses. "A life in paradise. Everything you could want."

"What about Dante?" I managed to say.

He pulled back, his eyes glazed with lust. "What about him?"

"Where is he? You said he was here." I whispered coyly.

He smirked. "End of the hallway. Room on the right. There's a nanny with him." Marco pulled back slightly. "See? I keep my promises. Now, let me keep loving you."

He kissed me again, deeper this time.

My hand moved slowly, toward where I had hidden the knife in the pile of my discarded clothes.

"I used to love you, you know," I whispered against his mouth.

Marco pulled back, surprised. "Really?"

"Yes, when we were young. Before all of this." My fingers closed around the knife handle. "I used to think you were my friend."

His eyes twinkled. "I am your friend. I'm the only friend you have left and I promise to love you."

“Do you want to know something?” I asked as he led me to the bed, my back touched the mattress while he hovered over me.

I could feel his erection pressing against my thigh and I swallowed the nausea.

“What is it?” Marco whispered as he stared down at me.

My gaze was fixed on his exposed throat and I opened the blade discreetly. When I looked at him, my smile was bittersweet.

“I hope you rot in hell for eternity.” I whispered and his eyes widened.

I struck immediately, slashing the blade across his throat in one clean motion.

For a moment, Marco just stood there, his expression confused. Then blood began to spurt in rhythm with his heartbeat.

He tried to speak, but only gurgles came out.

His hands went to his throat, trying to stop the flow, but there was too much blood. It sprayed all over my face yet I didn’t care.

I lay on the bed while he struggled for his own life.

"You…" Gurgle. "Bitch…" Gurgle.

He stumbled backward, his eyes wide with shock and betrayal.

Then he fell.

His body hit the floor with a heavy thud. He twitched once, his eyes stared at me, accusing even in death.

Then he went still. The knife fell from my hand, clattering to the floor.

I rose to my feet, wiping the back of my hand against my face in an effort to clean the blood.

"I'm sorry, Marco," I whispered, even though he couldn't hear me anymore. "I'm so sorry."

But I wasn't. Not really.

He tried to destroy me and took my son. This was survival… nothing more.

I stood there for a moment, staring at his body, my mind blank with shock.

Then survival instinct kicked in.

I grabbed a shirt from the and pulled it on. Then I searched the room.

On the desk, I found papers. There was a detailed plan and map of where all their warehouses were, including what it contained.

I grabbed the papers, folding them carefully.

Then I found a gun in the bedside drawer, and Marco's phone.

Dressed in his oversized shirt and nothing else, I crept to the door and listened.

There was nothing but silence. I opened it carefully and slipped into the hallway.

I moved silently to the direction Marco pointed out, the gun held in shaking hands.

The door was unlocked and I pushed it open. Inside, I could see a plump woman sitting in a rocking chair, holding Dante.

My son was alive and sleeping peacefully. I almost fell to the ground in relief.

I pushed the door open and raised the gun. "Don't scream."

The woman's eyes went wide. She opened her mouth but she didn’t say anything.

"I said don't scream." I stepped inside, closing the door behind me. "You have two choices. Run away right now and live. Or stay here and die. Choose."

She stared at me, then at the gun, and at the blood I probably had on me, then finally at the desperate look in my eyes.

She carefully set Dante in his bassinet and stood, hands raised.

"Your shoes," I said. "Give them to me."

She kicked them off and I grabbed them. I walked out of the room and locked the door behind her and scooped Dante into my arms.

He stirred but didn't wake, his small body was warm and perfect.

"I've got you," I whispered. "Mama's got you. We're getting out of here."

But first… I grabbed a bottle of whiskey from the bar downstairs. Then I went back to Marco's room and poured the alcohol everywhere.

I found a lighter sitting on the ashtray and I took it.

"Goodbye, Marco," I said one final time.

Then I lit the curtains on fire. The flames caught quickly, spreading across the fabric, and reaching for the walls.

I ran out of the room and down the stairs then the back door while guards at the front were still unaware.

I dashed into the forest behind the house with Dante clutched to my chest.

I ran until I couldn't run anymore, and until the house was a distant glow through the trees.

Then I pulled out Marco's phone with shaking hands and dialed the number I knew by heart.

It rang three times then he picked.

"Hello?" Giovanni's voice, and he sounded wary because he didn't recognize the number.

"Giovanni." My voice cracked. "It's me."

He muttered garbled Italian then there was obvious clattering and finally. "Arya? Where are you? Are you okay? Is the baby-"

"We're alive. We're okay." Tears streamed down my face. "But I need help. I'm somewhere in South America, I don't know exactly where but I can't… I can't do this alone anymore."

He cursed again followed by yelling then he spoke to me in a soft tone  “I'm coming right now. Just find somewhere to hide, preferably a place with addresss… or no!”

“Stay on the call, I’ll have Enzo track you.” He rushed out and I bobbed my head.

"Giovanni." I looked down at Dante, sleeping peacefully despite everything. "You better come save me this time. Because I can't keep doing this."

My voice broke completely.

"I'm coming," Giovanni promised, and I heard the sound of him already moving. "I'm coming, Arya. Just hold on. I'm coming for both of you."

I sank to the ground, my back against a tree, and finally let myself believe it.

Help was coming.

I just had to survive long enough to see it.
