Chapter 37 "Tension in the air"
Damon
A week later, Elena had recovered, and she was eager to go home. The doctor discharged her to continue her recovery at home. I was also relieved as I couldn't stand being in that hospital any longer. It was such a dull place, but for Elena, I would stay anywhere in the world, truth be told.
She was getting better, although she still had some injuries on her body. Elena was very active, and I couldn't imagine how she would manage to stay still, but she had to rest for a while. She couldn't exert herself; those were all the doctor's orders.
"Damon, help me gather the rest of my things, please," Elena said.
"I'm on my way. Am I your servant now?" I joked.
"Yes, you are my butler," she called from the bathroom.
I helped her pack the rest of her belongings. Finally, I could take her home. I had already hired someone to cook for us temporarily; Dulce would take special care of Elena personally when I wasn't around or was occupied. Dulce was the only person I trusted to take care of Elena. Who knows if someone else might want to harm her just because she's my wife?
She would have to use a wheelchair to go outside; it wasn't a good idea for her to walk around just yet. Elena finished getting ready to go home. She was wearing white sweatpants, a tight black top that accentuated her breasts, and her hair was loose. She looked beautiful as always. I couldn't stop thinking about this woman for a minute.
Besides being beautiful, Elena had a sweetness that I couldn't explain; she was gentle and understanding.
Elena went into the bathroom and left her phone on the counter. In a moment of impulse, I felt the urge to snoop around, in case I found some evidence about that email or something else, but no, I wasn't going to do that; I would trust her. We were in such a good place, and I didn't want to ruin it.
She came out of the bathroom, and I followed her down the hallway, pushing her wheelchair. She said her goodbyes to the nurses, doctors, and people who took care of her during that time. I was happy that she was okay. I couldn't even fathom the idea of losing this special person.
When we arrived in front of the car that would take us home, I carried her directly to the car with all the care so she wouldn't risk getting hurt. The girls at the clinic couldn't help but applaud us. I noticed Elena's shy smile; she was embarrassed by the nurses' and receptionists' gestures, but I, on the other hand, felt pleased. I liked how we were together.
The driver was about to leave when that clown, Marcos, came running with Elena's bag in his hands.
"You forgot your bag, Elena," he said.
"Wow, Marcos, I hadn't even noticed. If it weren't for you, I wouldn't have seen it. Thank you," Elena said, and internally, I rolled my eyes. I couldn't stand him, honestly; I don't know if it was instinct or just jealousy.
He didn't even look at Elena and left. Geez, what a weird guy.
I had a grim expression; I didn't like it when Marcos approached her. He had no good intentions toward Elena, and it was obvious. Maybe she didn't see it, but I did. Another man always knows when another man is up to no good with a woman. It's so noticeable.
She looked at me, and I continued with a sullen face. I couldn't hide my jealousy.
"What's the matter, Damon?" Elena looked at me and asked. "Why do you have that funeral face on? I'm not dead."
"Well, I'm normal," I tried to disguise.
"No, you're not. Say something."
"It's nothing. It's just that I think your friend might be up to something, and I don't like him being near you," I crossed my arms.
Elena burst into laughter. I don't know what was funny about it, but her reward came immediately after. She laughed and then gave me a slow, passionate kiss. I could live like this forever, with her by my side, receiving her warm kisses, her hand in my hair, and her eyes staring deeply into mine after each kiss we shared.
"You can do that as many times as you want, and I won't complain," I said.
"Oh, I can assure you of that," she smiled playfully.
We continued the journey, our hands interlocked. Along the way, I wondered how it would be; now that we would be living together again after everything that happened, would we live like a real couple, or would it go back to how it used to be? Sleeping in the same bed and hardly looking at each other.
"I thought I was going to die," she said.
"You were at risk. But if I didn't have this blood type, I swear I would have gone to hell to get it, but I wouldn't lose you."
"It's funny," she said, smiling.
"What's funny?" I asked, not understanding what she was referring to.
"You. I don't know. The way you protect me. Nobody has ever cared about me so much, Damon."
"You're my wife; it's what I'm supposed to do."
I wanted to say something more special, I admit, but sometimes my cold side that doesn't know how to express what I feel speaks louder for me.
We arrived home, and the driver parked the car in my garage. I received a message; it was from my cousin Renata, asking about Elena. She was going to visit later.
I helped Elena get out of the car and carried her upstairs to our bedroom. I hadn't even thought about setting up the other room downstairs for her, which would have been better than upstairs.
But I would figure it out later.
"It's good to have you back, my dear," Dulce said, welcoming Elena.
"Thank you, Dulce. I feel the same way; I couldn't stand being in that hospital any longer."
After we arrived home, Elena couldn't move around and do certain things very well yet. I would help her and take care of her personally.
"Get that outfit over there," she pointed to the clothes she wanted to wear in the closet.
I got her hygiene products and the outfit she had chosen, and I took everything to the ensuite.
"I need help taking a shower," she said, somewhat embarrassed.
"If you don't feel comfortable with me, I can ask Dulce to help."
"No. In fact, I feel more comfortable with you. Damon, I know you're very respectful towards me. I trust you."
We went to the bathroom, and I helped her undress and take a shower first before getting into the bathtub. Seeing her naked body in front of me was awkward because I wanted to do so many things.
Her body was perfect, her navel piercing, her well-shaped breasts; oh my God, I didn't know what to say. I observed every detail of her body as if I had never imagined it before; she was embarrassed, but she hid it well. I helped her bathe, soaping her body. Elena noticed the bulge that had formed in my shorts; I became completely speechless and couldn't avoid it.
"It's alright," she laughed, embarrassed
.
"I'm sorry, Elena, I..."
"Don't worry, Damon. Relax."
I helped her bathe until she kissed me and pulled me into the bathtub. I almost lost control. My hands glided over her body slowly; every part of me screamed to be inside her. We continued kissing, and I accidentally pulled her hair root a bit too hard, but it wasn't aggressive. I quickly noticed and apologized.
"I can't do this," I got out of the bathtub.
"Do what?"
"Be like this with you, in the bathtub, you naked. We're not kids, Elena, and you know where this would lead."
"I know. But we were just kissing."
"That's true. But it's better if we don't do this, because of your injuries, I need to restrain myself."
"Why are you looking at me like that?" she asked.
"What way?"
"As if I really were your wife. If you truly loved me and it wasn't just a marriage of convenience," she said.
"I don't know anymore, Elena. I don't know if it's just a marriage of convenience, not anymore."
I got out of the bathtub, dried myself, and then helped her get out and dress. Some intimate contacts were unavoidable; I was going crazy. My mind wasn't even present anymore. She made me completely aroused without even trying. I noticed her rib tattoo that said "self-love."
I didn't even know she had it. After helping Elena get dressed, her food was brought to her; nothing too greasy as per the doctor's orders. I kept thinking about her naked form in front of me every passing second, and wow, it was unavoidable not to think about it.
"You don't need to keep this awkward atmosphere between us," she said while taking a forkful of salad.
"There's no awkward atmosphere, huh," I tried to disguise.
"Sure, you're not even looking at me, Damon."
"I'm not because I've seen too many things," I smiled. "Seriously, let's act like two normal adults. We just can't ignore what happened in the bathtub just now," I said.
"You told me the other day that when I was ready to love, you would be waiting for me. And maybe this is the time; I want to be with you, Damon."
My heart was beating out of sync; I couldn't believe what she was telling me.
It simply seemed like I didn't control my feelings anymore. Where was the feared boss of the Corleone gang?
