Chapter 50:Gavin Kissed Eva Deeply
Mia's POV
After Eva drove away, I returned to my apartment in a daze.
Fiona was startled when she saw my disheveled state.
"My God, Mia, what happened? You look awful!"
She rushed over and crouched down in front of me, looking at me with concern.
All the grievances, unwillingness, anger, and heartbreak that had been building up inside me over the past few days finally burst forth in that moment.
I completely broke down.
Fiona held me tightly in her arms, gently patting my back and comforting me.
"Go ahead and cry, honey."
I leaned on her shoulder, sobbing. "Fiona... I succeeded, but I'm not happy at all... It hurts so much..."
After hearing what happened, Fiona blamed herself.
"It's my fault. I knew you had feelings for Gavin, yet I still gave you such a terrible idea."
I shook my head. "It's me... I was too naive. I thought I could control my emotions, but I couldn't."
"This isn't your fault, Mia."
Fiona cupped my face and wiped away my tears.
"Feelings aren't something you can control. What's important now is that you pull yourself together."
With her comfort, I gradually freed myself from the chaos of my thoughts.
Because I had something more important to do.
I needed to send Susan abroad.
The next day, after collecting myself, I contacted Jayden.
"Hello, Mia?" Jayden sounded surprised.
I tried to keep my voice calm.
"It's me, Jayden. I need your help. About sending my mother abroad for treatment, does your offer still stand?"
"Of course it does!" Jayden's tone became excited. "I've been waiting for you to contact me. Don't worry, I've already arranged everything with doctors and a sanatorium in North America. We can proceed anytime."
"Thank you, Jayden."
Hearing his words, a weight finally lifted from my heart.
With Jayden's help, I successfully contacted a psychiatrist in North America.
We had an international video call.
After learning about Susan's condition in detail, the doctor told me that although her case was complex, with systematic treatment and psychological counseling, there was great hope for recovery.
This news rekindled my hope.
I scheduled Susan's departure for the day of Gavin and Eva's engagement party.
Eva was about to become Gavin's fiancée. She would be immersed in joy, with no time or energy to worry about Susan.
And I had to attend the engagement party in person to better divert her attention and buy more time for Susan's departure.
Over the next few days, I stayed by Susan's side, patiently communicating with her and soothing her emotions.
I held her hand and pointed to photos of the sanatorium on my tablet.
"Mom, in a few days I'm sending you to this place."
"There are the world's best doctors and nurses taking care of you. You'll receive treatment there and get better soon."
Susan looked at me, her clouded eyes filled with anxiety and dependence.
"Mia, will you come with me?"
I shook my head, my heart aching. "Mom, I still have some things to handle. I can't go with you right now."
"When will you come find me?" she pressed, like a child afraid of being abandoned.
"Soon," I promised, holding back tears. "As soon as I finish things here, I'll come to North America immediately. I promise."
With my reassurance, Susan, though still uneasy, eventually agreed to my arrangement.
On the day of the engagement party.
Jayden arrived at my apartment building at our agreed time.
I helped Susan with her luggage and took her downstairs. At the car, I hugged her one last time.
"Mom, when you get there, make sure to take your medicine on time and cooperate with the doctors."
"I know," she patted my back. "You take care of yourself too."
I entrusted Susan to Jayden.
"Jayden, I'm counting on you."
"Don't worry," he assured me. "I'll make sure she gets on the plane safely."
I watched the car slowly drive away until it disappeared from sight, then finally looked away.
Back at the apartment, I changed into my bridesmaid dress and took a taxi to the engagement party.
The party was held at the Adams Manor.
When I arrived, the manor was already filled with luxury cars of all kinds, each worth a fortune.
I entered the banquet hall, which was crowded with high society elites.
I saw my father Henry. He was holding a wine glass, chatting cheerfully with business partners, his face full of smug satisfaction.
He was immersed in the joy of his daughter marrying into the Adams family, completely forgetting about me, the daughter he had abandoned.
Besides Henry, I also saw Camilla, dressed in an elaborate evening gown like a proud peacock, mingling through the crowd, basking in everyone's flattery and attention.
I didn't go up to greet them. Instead, I found an inconspicuous corner to sit down and wait quietly.
Since Susan left, my heart had been in constant anxiety, and my palms were now covered in cold sweat.
All kinds of terrible thoughts kept flashing through my mind.
What if Susan had an emotional breakdown on the way to the airport?
What if Eva discovered my plan and sent people to intercept them?
The more I thought about it, the more frightened I became. I kept refreshing my phone over and over, afraid of missing Jayden's message.
Suddenly, the lights in the banquet hall dimmed. The engagement ceremony was beginning.
My attention was briefly diverted. Gavin and Eva walked onto the stage hand in hand.
Gavin stood tall and handsome, impossible to look away from.
Eva, wearing a happy and shy smile, nestled beside him.
Standing together, they looked so perfectly matched, like a prince and princess from a fairy tale.
My heart felt like it was being squeezed by an invisible hand, the pain almost suffocating.
I forced myself to look away and checked my phone again.
Almost two hours had passed since Jayden left with Susan, but he still hadn't sent me a message.
Just when I could barely sit still, my phone finally vibrated in my pocket.
It was a call from Jayden.
I quickly walked to an empty corner and answered.
"Jayden, how did it go?"
Jayden said, "Mia, don't worry. I've safely gotten Susan on the plane. It's about to take off."
Hearing this news, my anxious heart finally settled, and I breathed a complete sigh of relief.
"Thank you, Jayden. Thank you so much."
"No need to thank me," he said. "What about you? When will it end? I'll come pick you up."
While listening to the phone, I instinctively turned around to check the situation in the banquet hall, trying to estimate how much longer I needed to stay before I could leave.
The moment I turned, my gaze landed on the stage.
Then my breath caught.
Amid the enthusiastic cheers and applause of the guests around them, Gavin lowered his head and kissed Eva deeply.
