Prisha Jha
I woke up to the light of the sun that is directly hitting my face. I groaned and fell back to my queen size bed, covering myself with the blanket over my head.
My beauty sleep is again disturbed from the knock on my door followed by my chachu’s voice. (Chachu - Uncle)
“Kya hain, chachu?” I yelled.
“Kiddo, stop being a sleepyhead and quickly freshen up. It’s past breakfast time” my uncle said from the other side of the door.
I rolled my eyes hearing the endearment he has given me. For god’s sake I’m 22 years old and no longer a kid. Heck, I don’t even have the freedom to sleep on sundays. I tilted my head and saw the wall clock only to realize it is already eleven o’ clock.
I huffed and got up from my bed. I fixed my bed properly before heading for the bathroom to freshen up. After doing my morning routine, I took a relaxing shower to get rid of my sleep.
I wrapped a towel and got out of my bathroom and went to my walk-in closet. I picked up my normal pj’s and wore them. I tied my hair into a messy bun and put on a small bindi. I glanced one last time in the mirror and went to the dining area to have my breakfast.
As soon as I reached the dining table, I was welcomed by the aroma of aloo paratha. My mouth watered instantly and my stomach grumbled.
“Have it” my uncle served me the paratha with a chuckle.
“Thank you” I muttered and started eating my food. My uncle also served the food for himself and started eating it.
Oops, Sorry! I forgot to introduce myself. I’m Prisha Jha. I am studying in ICFP and my course is Finance. I am in my last semester of college. I stay with my uncle Darshit Mishra. I don’t know who my parents are. Whenever I ask my uncle about them he would avoid my question, after a period of time I stopped asking him. He is cool with that. I am very attached to him even though he is my Chachu. You might be wondering why we both have different surnames, right? Hehe, even I don’t know. So, that is it. We are kinda rich and there is nothing important about me to tell.
“So? Kiddo, did you apply for the internship?” Chachu asked.
“Yeah, but got no response. So let’s see” I shrugged and continued with my food.
“How is your martial arts practice going on?” Chachu threw another question and stared at me intently.
“Cool” I answered shortly and avoided his gaze.
“Why did you beat that poor boy?” he finally asked the question.
“It’s not my mistake. He was threatening Saira. And for god’s sake he is not that innocent” I answered immediately. He nodded in understanding before focusing on his food.
I know what I do in college will not go unnoticed by my uncle. My college Principal is his secret spy. I groaned inwardly cursing that dumbo of a Principal who just complaints about me to my uncle all the time.
But my uncle being the sweetest never scolds me, he knew I won’t unnecessarily get into any fights. I love my uncle very much.
After breakfast, I went to my room to clean it. I am a messy girl when it comes to my room. I clean only once a week on Sundays as I will be free on that day.
I started cleaning my messy room. I really should change this habit of mine to throw things randomly. If I start keeping the things in their places then I don’t have to clean this every weekend. But me being me never does that. Hehe, this is my regular statement to myself. That next time never came in my life. ** winks **
It took almost two hours to clean my messy room. I felt exhausted and laid on my bed. I got a message notification on my mobile only to see my best friend's name.
Saira - Hey baby, thank you very much. I feel much better now.
Me - Is it? , note the sarcasm.
My idiot friend didn’t even tell me that someone was bugging her and when I found that, I had given him left and right, that’s what my uncle asked me during our breakfast. And look who is thanking me for getting rid of him.
She is always like this. She is really sweet and can’t stand when someone is hurt and I, on the other hand, don’t even care when the person is wrong. I just punch them straight in the face. That is the reason no one dares to harass me or come near me. They stay out of my way.
My train of thoughts were cut off by the notification sound.
Saira - Alright! I’m sorry for not telling you about this. But you do know I don’t want you to get in trouble. That was the reason I didn't tell you Pri.
I rolled my eyes seeing that text and a smile found its way to my lips. We love each other so much that we can’t see each other in pain. I have only a handful of people who truly care about me.
Me - Girl! You do know I can’t get in trouble when it is the other way around. That person should be cautious before meddling with Prisha Jha’s people, right?
Saira - Yeah, yeah! Meri maa. (My Mom)
I laughed seeing her reply. I can imagine she rolled her eyes seeing my reply. She always gets annoyed when I tell her that I won’t get into trouble. That was the fact anyways. She worries too much. I was about to get up when I thought of checking my mails for any information regarding my internship I applied few days ago.
My eyes popped out of my sockets seeing the mail which I have never expected to see. I got selected for the role of finance intern in Merganser company and asked me to report at the office tomorrow morning by nine o’clock. I know it’s just an internship but hey, it’s one hell of a famous company and to work there is a dream come true.
I heard that the boss of that company is a cold hearted person, not my words theirs. I heard this when I went for the interview. I shrugged at that time because I was sure that I wouldn't be selected at any cost after hearing about the boss.
It’s still unbelievable that I got selected. I mean I’m a top student and all but this is the thing that I have never expected even in my dream. After confirming for almost ten times re-reading the mail I believe that this is true and jumped out of my bed doing a happy dance.
I immediately went downstairs to my uncle and tackled him in a bone-crushing hug out of happiness. My uncle almost lost balance but was quick to compose himself and returned my hug.
Did I mention that Chachu is also a martial arts expert and doesn't look like an uncle in any way? No? Then I guess you got the memo now. He looks rather like my elder brother. He is still handsome with a well built body.
“Chachu, I got selected for the internship in the Finance department of Merganser company” I revealed the news happily only to see the smile on my uncle’s face fade away.
