Chapter 37 37

GEORGIA

Janette's gaze wandered to me and she shot back, a gasp escaped her throat, her handbag clattering to the floor. She glanced at me as if to confirm her sight and I saw the blood drain from my face.

"Honey! She suddenly screamed, "What is she doing here?"

"Honey?" My eyebrows curled with surprise. Then I stood from the seat and faced her. "What is that supposed to mean? Aren't you supposed to be in mourning, Madam Delano?"

Anyone could detect the horror in Janette's tone, but her breath was raspy; her lips quivering, her fingers trembling, beads of sweat breaking out on her silky smooth skin. She was petrified, and if nothing else, her presence at that moment ignited my suspicions and assumptions.

I mean, what is the sudden affiliation between Dimitri Volkovich and Janette Delano? They were not even supposed to know each other. I remembered Rhys saying she had connections with many syndicates. However, Dimitri was not the friendly kind; hence, this arrangement was a quid pro quo.

I waited for Janette to give a response, but instead she turned to Dimitri.

“This woman has to leave. Tell your guards to usher her out right now."

"What's going on with you Janette?" Dimitri asked, shaking his head. "I'm being interviewed for a popular magazine. I don't understand what you're talking about and I don't think this is the right time."

"Are you telling me to leave? Huh, Dimitri. You'll ignore me to speak with this disrespectful, and nosy woman." She pointed at me and then shook her hand, anger flashing across her face. I won't repeat myself. Tell this woman to leave."

I saw Dimitri's expression change to one of disappointment, then irritation. And then he turned to me.

"We'll continue my interview in the evening." He said stiffly. "I'll have my men make arrangements for dinner. Please have a great day."

I lingered, wanting to say something, but the look on Janet's face froze my tongue. This was really bad, months of hard work heading to a dwindle. My legs grew heavier as I dragged them out of Dimitri's compound and I turned to take a last glance I felt my heart shredding.

Of course Dimitri didn't call back. I waited till evening, pacing back and forth, but I knew the damage had already been done. Janette had told Dimitri about my investigations, how I had come to the company to interview her and the rift it led to. Dimitri was my key to finding the truth, I can't let off that easily.

"You need to stop moving back and forth girl," Tiana said, coming up behind me. "it won't do any good."

"The same way our failure to get the truth will prove disastrous. Everyone knows we're back the mansion, all it takes is one bomb, and we'll all die."

"There's has to be a way we can speak to Dimitri."

"But Dimitri wouldn't speak with us! It's all gone. And we haven't gotten any evidence."

"What about the interview?"

"Oh really," I stomped my foot and walked away from her. "Janette came in before I could get to the core questions. This is terrible, Tiana."

"Here, why don't you drink some water." She handed me a full cup. "You've lost weight Georgie."

"I'm heading into an eating disorder spiral." But she I took the glass and placed it to my lips. The cold water had a relaxing effect and I sank into the nearest sofa in the living room.

Silence gradually settled over the atmosphere, but it was interrupted by the sudden ringing of the telephone.

"Who is that?" I sprung to my feet and picked the phone off the receiver.

"It could be Rhys," Tiana said, rising up to join me.

"Rhys would never use the home phone. He would call my number directly."

"Then who could it be?" I couldn't deny the thumping in my heart, or the fear in Tiana's eyes. I swallowed hard and picked the receiver, making sure to crank it to loud speaker. Then I said hello in a tiny Whisper.

"Hello," a voice responded, with the lines breaking and the voice cracking. " Georgia, Tiana is anyone there, can you hear me? This is me Emily I am in trouble, come save me."

My eyes widened so hard that I felt blood draining out of my veins. The cracking continued and in the background I could hear gunshots and loud barkings.

Tiana's spoke up.

" Emily! Where are you? What has happened to you."

" I am currently at Dmitri Volkovich's mansion. He is with Janet, Vanya's mother. They are
holding me hostage, they are planning to kill me. Please tell Rhys,"

" How come you were at that place?" I questioned. "I thought we already got you a place to live."

"Dimitri and Janet killed Vanya. They are going to kill me too, and then my sister!"

And that was it! The truth. My Preconceived Notions and suspicions have been confirmed.

"Stay on the phone Emily," but the line went dead before I could say more.

" I think the network is gone," Tiana said. "Pick up your phone and inform Rhys. We can't do this without him or behind his back. "

"We don't have time to inform Rhys." I headed to my bedroom and started dressing up. "We need to get there now."

" How does this story even make sense Is Vania's mother Why would she kill him?"

" We can't get the answers in this building Tiana. We're Rhy's jet, and then handful of his men. I'll inform Rhys on the way, maybe he'll join us in time."

In less than 40 minutes Reese's men Arrived in front of Dimitri's luxury mansion. As soon as Our jet landed I rose up to leave but the guard stopped me.

" This is going to be a bloody battle Miss," he said, shaking his head sheepishly. " It's best you stay away from the bombing and the shooting."

"But what about Emily?" I rose again, but he nudged me to my seat.

"I'll go in and find her, but you have to promise to stay here At least until the capo arrives."
