Chapter 50: ♥ Crown in Shadows

Enzo’s

I sat at my desk, my hands shaking badly as I tightly gripped the council’s official letter, their sharp words hitting me like a knife in the chest.

Step down now as Alpha or immediately face exile. We don't need an Alpha who decides to keep a Vengas as a mate. We hereby fully reject you as our Alpha.

I growled low and aggressively, instantly ripping the paper completely in half, my blood quickly boiling with intense fury. How dare they think they could casually try to take away my rightful title? Moses roared loudly in my head, his mental claws scraping violently, desperately demanding blood for the insult. I grabbed the heavy desk lamp and violently threw it, the crash loud and shocking as it completely shattered against the nearby wall.

The council—how dare they think they have the right? Who the hell did they truly think they were to reject me openly? I paced the room angrily, my heavy boots loudly slamming the floor, my mind completely muddled and disorganized. Should I immediately storm the council meeting, quickly make every single one of them kneel before me? Should I show them once and for all that I am the only Alpha they will ever serve? Should I aggressively make them all truly understand who their boss and true leader was?

Noah’s worried face suddenly flashed clearly in my mind—his scared eyes looking up at me, his quiet voice asking me if he was a genuine monster. I would honestly do absolutely anything to permanently keep him safe, even if it truly meant aggressively burning the entire pack down to the ground.

He might be a dangerous Vengas, but he is clearly not like all the other ruthless ones, and that is exactly why I will do all I completely could to keep him safe from harm.

My phone loudly buzzed, Dean’s hated name brightly flashing on the screen. I instantly ignored it, my jaw tight and clenched, but it quickly kept ringing relentlessly, his voice message abruptly cutting through the growing silence: “Pick up the phone, Enzo. You can’t possibly think you will successfully ignore me forever now.” My heart violently raced, Noah’s vulnerable name loudly echoing in my head again. I quickly poured myself a glass of whiskey, the cool glass cold in my hand, and violently drank deeply, trying desperately to completely drown out Moses’s angry growls. Teach them all a painful lesson, he snarled viciously. Protect Noah at all costs. I honestly didn’t have time for his annoying noise right now, not with the entire pack quickly turning on me and Dean actively scheming in the background.

The door quickly swung open with force, and I instantly growled, completely ready to violently yell at the intruder, but I instantly stopped dead in my tracks. Dean stood right there, his fierce green eyes fiercely glinting, his trademark smirk wide and arrogant as he casually looked around at the growing mess—the broken lamp, the torn papers, the expensive whiskey bottle sitting heavily on the desk.

“Well, damn, Enzo,” he said calmly, his voice mocking my frustration. “I truly didn’t know you could actually fall apart and lose control like this in private. What exactly has got you so completely messed up now, brother? It’s truly been a very long while since I last saw you this moody and desperate.”

I stood up immediately, my eyes flashing intense red, my voice sharp and demanding. “What the hell are you genuinely doing in my office, Dean?” I said loudly, quickly stepping closer to him. “You truly think you can just calmly walk in here after actively turning the pack against me? After openly threatening my mate Noah? After aggressively trying to still my rightful Alpha position from me?”

He laughed carelessly, leaning casually against the door frame, his arrogant smirk quickly growing. “Just sincerely checking on you, little brother,” he said, his voice casual and dismissive. “You are truly stressing out and worrying about me? Come on now, Enzo. Your vulnerable Vengas mate is the real and bigger problem right now, not me or my actions.”

I chuckled bitterly, my voice cold, my hands tightly clenching into fists. “Only a total fool would ever worry about a pathetic threat like you,” I said, my eyes dangerously narrowing. “You are absolutely not welcome right here, Dean. Not after all the damage you did. Get out of my office immediately.”

He crossed his arms calmly, his laugh loud and confident, his eyes glinting with malicious fun. “Not welcome here?” he said, his voice taunting my anger. “This pack house was always equally ours, Enzo. Father built it specifically for both of us to share. Just because I personally walked away long ago definitely doesn’t mean I absolutely can’t come back whenever I want.”

I grabbed his collar violently, quickly yanking him close to my face, my voice an enraged growl. “Why exactly are you truly here now?” I said, my eyes intensely blazing. “You seriously got a genuine death wish now? You truly think you can casually threaten my mate and just walk in here like you permanently own the whole place?”

He violently shoved my hands off his collar, his voice sharp and aggressive. “You’re acting like a total clown, Enzo,” he said, stepping aggressively closer to me. “You’re openly acting like you’re still somehow in charge of this pack. The pack is completely done with you now. After today’s vote, you definitely won’t be Alpha anymore. You’ll truly be absolutely nothing important.”

I growled loudly, my hands severely shaking, Moses mentally roaring in fury in my head. “You truly came here just to loudly insult me?” I said, my voice low and dangerously threatening. “You truly think you can openly mock me and casually walk away from my office untouched? Get out right now before I actively make you leave in great pain.”

He laughed again, his eyes completely cold and unforgiving, his voice dangerously mocking. “Insulting you openly is definitely fun,” he said, “but it’s honestly not quite enough for my revenge. The real and satisfying fun is fully watching you slowly lose everything important to you. The council’s rejection letter? That is simply just the easy start to your pain. The pack is openly rejecting you, Enzo, and your weak Vengas mate is the ultimate reason why you’re losing.”

I laughed back, the sound bitter and angry, quickly stepping closer to him. “You truly think the Alpha position is automatically yours to take?” I said, my eyes intensely flashing red. “You’re a damn pathetic joke, Dean. You’ll absolutely never successfully take it from me as long as I live.”

He smirked confidently, his voice calm and surprisingly taunting. “It’s already completely mine now,” he said with certainty, his eyes glinting with malice. “You’re simply far too busy playing the devoted hero for Noah’s sake to actually see it happening clearly.”

I grabbed him roughly again, my voice a furious snarl. “Who exactly is going to actually give it to you, Dean?” I said, my heart pounding with fear and rage. “Father is dead and gone. You have absolutely no one left to hand you the Alpha title now. You’re simply dreaming of power.”

He chuckled softly, his voice low and confident, his eyes locked firmly on mine. “Father’s dead, yes,” he said slowly, “but our Mother’s definitely not dead.”

The heavy office door suddenly creaked slowly open, and my breath instantly caught in my throat. A woman calmly walked in, her intense stare cold as ice, her slow steps immediately commanding all the attention in the room. My heart completely stopped beating, my voice barely a whisper as the single word suddenly slipped out of my mouth. “Mom.”
