Chapter 42: Brother’s Vow
Enzo’s
The loud sound of the front door slamming open violently jolted me to my feet, my wolf, Moses, instantly snarling angrily inside my head.
Dean stormed in, his face twisted horribly with intense rage, his green eyes glowing brightly as he shouted Noah’s name loudly. He marched straight up to me, his fists clenched tight, his voice shaking badly with uncontrolled anger. “Where is he now, Enzo? Where is your damn mate hiding?”
I stepped forward slowly, my jaw clenched tight, my eyes narrowing dangerously. “What exactly do you want from me, Dean?” I said, my voice low and completely steady despite his anger. “You come into my house yelling Noah’s name like that? If you have something important to say, then spit it out immediately.”
He chuckled bitterly, the sound cold and sharp, grabbing my shirt collar quickly, his fingers painfully digging into the fabric. “You have some serious nerve talking back to me,” he said, his voice dripping with raw venom. “After what Noah did to Stan? You think you can just protect that freak and act like nothing important happened at all?”
I shoved his hands off me violently, my eyes instantly flashing red with warning, Moses mentally clawing to break free and attack him. “Your mate actively tried to kill mine!” I growled, stepping even closer, my voice rising sharply with rage. “Stan and Eric ambushed Noah in the basement of your house. You wanna calmly talk about what happened? Why don’t you start by explaining why your mate was working with a rogue wolf to murder mine?”
Dean laughed cruelly, his eyes glinting menacingly, his voice utterly mocking. “You honestly should be thanking Stan for his actions,” he said, his tone completely cold. “He was trying desperately to end that dangerous Vengas before he completely destroys our entire pack. You’re simply too blind and weak to see the obvious truth, Enzo.”
I grabbed his shirt, yanking him aggressively close to my face, my voice now a loud snarl of fury. “Don’t you ever dare call Noah that name again!” I shouted, my heart pounding hard in my chest. “You don’t get permission to talk about him like he’s some terrifying monster. If Stan hadn’t gone after him in the first place, none of this serious mess would’ve happened at all!”
Dean shoved me back just as hard, his hands slamming aggressively into my chest, forcefully pinning me against the wall behind me.
“You’re a complete fool, Enzo,” he said, his voice low and burning with fury. “That human of yours is a Vengas, Enzo. You clearly saw what he did to Stan—he instantly drained him of his power with just a single touch. That’s precisely what they do to us! It’s exactly why Father brutally killed every last one of them in the past. You’re letting a major threat walk free among us!”
I pushed him back with a sudden surge of my own strength, immediately flipping him around so I stood physically over him, my voice severely shaking with pure rage. “Never, ever talk about Noah like that again, you hear me?” I said, my eyes glowing bright red in anger. “He’s my mate, Dean. My destined mate! If Stan hadn’t aggressively attacked him, he wouldn’t be lying there half-dead right now because of his own actions. This entire situation is solely on you and Stan!”
Dean immediately surged up, tackling me hard, his hands slamming onto my shoulders, his voice a guttural growl right in my ear. “You think you’re some great Alpha leader?” he said, his face mere inches from mine. “If Father was still alive today, he would openly say his single biggest mistake was ever making you the Alpha. You’re clearly weak, Enzo, letting a Vengas get this close to you and the pack!”
Ren suddenly appeared quickly, grabbing Dean’s arm tightly, immediately pulling him off my body. “Enough fighting now!” Ren said, his voice sharp and authoritative, his grip incredibly firm. “Both of you, back off and calm down!”
I stood up slowly, my chest heaving heavily, my eyes intensely locked onto Dean’s furious face. “If Father was still alive,” I said, my voice low and dangerous, “he would intensely regret having a weak, pathetic son like you. Betraying your own pack, working secretly with dangerous rogues, letting your mate brutally attack mine? You’re nothing but a disgrace to this family.”
Dean growled back at me, his eyes glowing bright green, his hands clenching tight with fury. “You’re the true disgrace here,” he said, his voice shaking with hatred. “You’re letting a dangerous Vengas completely destroy all of us! Stan’s fighting desperately for his life because of Noah’s power, and you’re still actively defending the one who hurt him?”
“You’re blaming Noah for simply defending himself from an attacker?” I said, stepping aggressively closer to him, my voice immediately rising in pitch. “Stan and Eric overtly tried to kill him! You think I’m just gonna let that massive crime slide? You think I’m gonna let you or anyone else dare touch my mate again?”
Dean laughed, the sound cold and incredibly bitter. “If Stan doesn’t wake up from this,” he said, his voice low and chillingly menacing, “I’ll personally kill Noah myself for revenge. That is my solemn promise to you, brother.”
I stepped forward instantly, my eyes blazing with pure rage, my voice a furious growl. “You touch Noah, and consider yourself dead,” I said with finality. “I genuinely don’t care at all if you’re my brother. If anything bad happens to him, I’ll personally rip you completely apart with my own hands.”
Dean smirked cruelly, his eyes glinting with malicious triumph. “Big words you say,” he said dismissively. “But you’re quickly forgetting something very important, Alpha. Noah successfully drained Stan’s entire power. You should know how Vengas work—once they steal a wolf’s strength, it’s completely gone forever unless the Vengas dies and reverses the drain.”
I froze completely at his words, my heart racing uncontrollably, Moses whimpering softly in fear inside my head. “You’re completely wrong about that consequence,” I said, my voice severely shaking with denial. “Noah is not like that at all. He truly didn’t mean to hurt Stan. He was just desperately protecting himself and his own life.”
“Protecting himself from an attacker?” Dean said, his voice laced with mocking disbelief. “He’s a walking, deadly weapon, Enzo. You honestly think you can control him forever? You think he is not going to drain your strength next? Wake up and face the truth!”
“Shut your mouth now!” I shouted, my hands shaking violently, my wolf loudly roaring in agony. “Noah is not a threat to us. He’s my true mate, and I will protect him completely, no matter what you or anyone else dares to say about him.”
Dean chuckled darkly, quickly stepping back toward the door, his eyes cold and devoid of any emotion. “Then Noah absolutely has to die immediately,” he said, his voice low and devastatingly final. “If Stan doesn’t wake up from this, your mate’s blood is now solely on your hands, brother.”
Before I could possibly lunge forward to attack him, he was already gone, quickly slipping out the door, his fast footsteps fading instantly into the night. I stood there, my chest heaving with desperate breaths, my mind intensely racing. Noah, a Vengas? I deeply didn’t want to believe that terrifying truth, but the clear image of Stan collapsing, Noah’s eyes briefly flashing a deadly yellow—it was permanently burned into my mind now. Was he truly Nickolas, my first love, the boy I thought was killed years ago? Or was Dean actually right all along, and was Noah a massive danger to all of us?
Ren stepped slowly forward toward me, his voice low and serious. “Are you okay, Alpha?” he said, his eyes searching mine with worry. “Dean is absolutely out of line, but… what if he’s telling the truth about Noah’s nature?”
I glared fiercely at him, my voice sharp and final. “Don’t you dare start that line of thinking now,” I said warningly. “Noah is my mate now. I am not letting anyone in this pack hurt him. Not Dean, not you, not anyone who tries.”
Ren nodded his head slowly, stepping back respectfully. “I’m always with you, Alpha,” he said firmly. “But you absolutely need to find Noah right now. He immediately ran out of the house after you told him the truth about the Vengas. He’s terrified and alone, Enzo. You have to find him and talk to him gently.”
“I will find him now,” I said, my voice low and determined, my heart heavy with anxiety. “I’ll find him, and I’ll personally prove Dean completely wrong about everything.”
