Chapter 33: Brotherly Threats
Enzo’s
I stormed into Dean’s house, my boots slamming hard against the floor, my blood boiling with uncontrolled rage. Dean was sprawled lazily on the couch, his phone in his hand, looking much too relaxed for my liking.
The second he saw me, he stood up quickly, but before he could even open his mouth, I grabbed his neck, pinning him brutally against the wall. “Was it you?” I growled, my voice low and dangerously fierce, my eyes burning bright red. “Did you send Eric after Noah?”
Dean’s eyes widened momentarily, but he quickly recovered and smirked, his hands raised in a mocking display of innocence. “Whoa, easy there, big brother,” he said, his voice dripping with mockery. “Relax a little. This is my house, you know. You can’t just barge in uninvited and start throwing me around like a ragdoll.”
I shoved him harder against the wall, my grip tightening relentlessly on his throat. “Don’t play games with me, Dean,” I said, my voice sharp and cold. “Answer the question now. Did you tell Eric where to find Noah? Did you set him up for an attack?”
He laughed, a short, bitter sound, and then forcefully pushed my hand away, stepping back from the wall. “Calm down, Enzo,” he said, brushing off his shirt nonchalantly. “Sit down, let’s try to talk like civilized people for a minute. Or are you too completely worked up right now to think straight?”
I glared at him, my hands clenching into fists, but I stepped back, my eyes never leaving his face. “I’m not in the mood for any of your stupid jokes,” I said, my voice low and dangerous. “I clearly told you to stay away from Noah. If I find out you’re truly behind this attack, you’re done forever.”
Dean chuckled, then flopped back comfortably onto the couch, gesturing with one hand to the seat across from him. “Sit down, Enzo,” he said, bored. “You’re acting like I’ve got nothing better to do with my time than chase your little human mate all over town.”
I stayed standing, my jaw tight with fury. “You actually expect me to believe that nonsense?” I said. “You’ve been actively trying to undermine me and take my place for years. Taking my post, stirring up unnecessary chaos in the pack. You think I don’t clearly see your attempts?”
He laughed again, louder this time, his eyes glinting with malicious fun. “Oh, you’re just paranoid, Alpha,” he said. “Yeah, I want your spot. Who wouldn’t want that power? But waste my precious time on Noah? Please. I’ve got much bigger, more important things to worry about than your weak boyfriend.”
I stepped closer to him, my voice descending into a raw growl. “You’re my brother, Dean,” I said, fighting for control. “But I swear to you, if you ever come after Noah again, I’ll personally rip your head off your shoulders. Blood relation or no blood relation.”
Dean’s smile faded instantly, his eyes narrowing to slits. “Big words from the Alpha,” he said, standing up now, his voice turning cold and serious. “But you’re barking up the wrong tree entirely, brother. You want someone to worry about? Worry about Eric. That rogue’s got a hard-on for your mate’s blood, not me.”
“You know Eric well,” I said, my voice low and accusing. “You are working with him, aren’t you? You’re feeding him information just to get to Noah and hurt me?”
Dean crossed his arms over his chest, his smirk returning slowly. “You really think I’m that desperate to win?” he said. “Eric’s his own problem now. If he’s actively after Noah, that’s completely on you for picking such a weak human mate in the first place. It’s not my fault you’re acting so soft now.”
I growled loudly, my hands clenching into tight fists, Moses stirring violently in my head, ready to break free and attack. “Say that again right now,” I said, stepping threateningly closer. “Call Noah weak one more time to my face.”
Dean laughed, completely unfazed by my rage, and sat back down. “What, are you really going to fight me right here in my own house?” he said. “Look, Enzo, if you’ve got nothing else solid to accuse me of, you can leave now. I’ve genuinely got better things I need to deal with today.”
I glared at him, my fists shaking with barely controlled fury, but I turned, storming toward the door. “This is not over between us,” I said, my voice dangerously low. “Stay away from him, Dean. I truly mean every single word of this.”
“Yeah, yeah, whatever you say,” Dean called mockingly after me. “Good luck trying to play the hero, brother.”
I walked out without another word, my heart pounding, my anger barely contained inside. As I reached my car, where Ren was waiting patiently by the driver’s side, I stopped suddenly, a cold chill running quickly down my spine. A distinct scent hit me—sharp, familiar, and utterly wrong. “Rogue,” I growled, my eyes scanning the surrounding darkness instantly. “Ren, stay right here by the car.”
“What’s wrong, Alpha?” Ren asked, his voice tense, his hand immediately on the knife at his waist. “Did you smell something suspicious?”
“Eric,” I said, my voice low and firm, and took off running toward the heavy scent, my boots pounding against the pavement. I stopped short in a dark, cramped alleyway, the air thick with his lingering stench. And there he was, his back to me, leaning casually against a wall as if he was waiting specifically for me.
“Eric,” I growled, my voice echoing harshly in the confined alley. He turned slowly, his smile wide and malicious, his dark eyes glinting cruelly under the harsh light of the streetlamp.
“Well, well,” he said, his voice smooth and mocking. “We meet again so soon, Enzo. The great, predictable Alpha, always chasing me down like a stray dog.”
I stepped closer to him, my fists clenched tightly, Moses clawing violently at my mind, screaming for release. “You’ve got some serious guts showing your face around here,” I said. “After what you did to Noah? You honestly think you can touch my mate and then just walk away from me?”
Eric laughed again, stepping forward slightly, his hands shoved deep in his pockets. “Oh, come on, Alpha,” he said dismissively. “That human boy has you completely twisted up inside. I never thought I’d see the day—an Alpha like you completely falling for a weak little human mate.”
“Stay back away from me,” I growled, my eyes flashing a brilliant, warning red. “You go near Noah again, and I swear, I’ll personally kill you. There will be no second chances for you, Eric.”
Eric’s smile widened, his voice dropping to a low, chilling tone. “Kill me?” he said. “Why waste your time and effort with me when I can just go straight after your mate? He’s so easy to find, Enzo. Scared, alone, running through dark alleys like a lost puppy.”
I lunged forward instantly, my hand reaching desperately for his throat, but he moved too fast, slipping instantly behind me in a lightning-fast blur. “You can certainly try to catch me,” he whispered, his voice dangerously close to my ear. “But I’m not here to actually fight you today. Not yet. I’ll get what I want in the end, Enzo. And you’ll be far too late to ever stop me.”
I spun around, growling furiously, ready to grab him and crush his neck, but he was already gone, vanishing instantly into the deep shadows like smoke or mist. My chest heaved with adrenaline, my anger boiling uncontrollably, Moses roaring in my head with frustration.
Ren appeared behind me, his knife still drawn and ready in his hand. “Are you okay, Alpha?” he asked, his voice tense and worried. “Was that Eric standing there?”
“Yeah, that was definitely him,” I said, my voice rough with suppressed rage. “Take me back to Noah immediately. Now.”
