Chapter 287: After Answering Your Question, You’ll Sleep With Me?

Chapter 287: After Answering Your Question, You’ll Sleep With Me?

Evelyn struggled hard.

But Michael was far too strong, and now they were in the car—the cramped space left her no choice but to endure his advances.

Michael kissed her while his hands wandered beneath her clothes, caressing her body.

Her face flushed red. She tilted her head back, trying to put distance between them. "You bastard! Let me go!"

"How am I a bastard?" Michael buried his face in the curve of her neck, kissing her as he murmured, "Like this? Or like this?"

Evelyn's body trembled under his touch.

This man had absolutely no shame.

Michael laughed softly. "You're cursing me out in your head right now, aren't you? But why? Your body's clearly enjoying this."

Evelyn didn't answer.

She gritted her teeth, wrapped her arms around Michael's neck, and kissed him back.

Michael froze for a split second.

In that instant, Evelyn reversed their positions, pinning him beneath her. Her small hands slipped under his shirt, exploring freely.

She touched him until his breathing grew ragged and his focus blurred. Then she asked:

"Michael, do you like me?"

Michael went still.

Evelyn's lips curved in a bitter smile. "Guess Mr. Johnson doesn't like me—you just like sleeping with me."

She traced circles on his chest with her fingertip. "Mr. Johnson, your body's pretty sensitive too. I barely touched you and look at you now."

He'd thought she was getting turned on too. Turned out she was just throwing his words back in his face.

Evelyn looked down at him and repeated her question. "Michael, I'm asking you something. Do you like me or not?"

Michael didn't answer. Instead, he stared at her lips, trying to kiss her again.

Evelyn pushed his face away. "Answer my question first."

"If I answer, will you sleep with me?"

"Depends on what your answer is."

Michael's breathing was still unsteady. His large hand closed over her smaller one. "We're already at this point, and you're still holding back. Don't you like how it feels when we're together? Doesn't it feel good?"

"It does, but..." Evelyn's eyes glinted with mischief. "It feels even better with Lavern."

Michael's desire evaporated completely at those words.

Watching his expression darken, Evelyn continued, "If you really need to get laid, go find Elysia. I'm sure she won't turn you down."

Michael sat in silence for a long moment. Then he suddenly asked, "Evelyn, why did you like me so much before? And I remember you told me we'd met long ago. When was that?"

"About ten years ago, I guess. In the woods. You were hurt—I saved you." Evelyn spoke casually.

Michael sat bolt upright. "What did you say? Where did you save me?"

"In those woods. You were badly injured. I used every ounce of strength I had to drag you into a hollow."

Michael's expression darkened.

Evelyn claimed she was the one who saved him all those years ago. But Elysia had told him she was his rescuer.

What the hell was going on?

Elysia and Evelyn—which one was lying?

Evelyn didn't notice the change in Michael's face. She gazed out at the night through the car window and kept talking.

"Michael, what happened in the past is over. Even though I saved your life, I'm not going to hold that over you or demand anything. I just hope that when we divorce, we'll both move on with our lives and stop bothering each other. Anyway, it's getting late. Let's head back to Haven Sky Residences."

Michael gripped the steering wheel and stepped on the gas.

His mind was in chaos. Images from that day in the woods kept flashing through his head.

But the face of the girl who'd saved him kept shifting between Evelyn and Elysia.

No matter how hard he tried, he couldn't remember which one of them it had actually been.

When Michael drove back to Haven Sky Residences, Evelyn had already fallen asleep in the car.

Her eyes were closed, her head resting against the door. She looked peaceful. Beautiful.

He walked around to the passenger side, opened the door, and carefully lifted her out. He carried her into the elevator and up to the eighth floor.

He was about to carry Evelyn into his own apartment when the neighboring door opened. Lavern stepped out.

"Mr. Johnson, is Evelyn asleep? You can hand her over to me. I'll take care of her."

Michael ignored him and kept walking toward his door.

Lavern blocked his path. "Mr. Johnson, you and Evelyn are divorced. You shouldn't be doing this anymore. This is disrespectful to her."

Michael's jaw tightened. He said nothing.

Lavern looked at him steadily. "Mr. Johnson, don't forget—you have a girlfriend. Elysia. If you have real feelings for Evelyn, stop stringing both of them along and make a decision. If you don't have feelings for Evelyn anymore, let her go gracefully. Stop clinging to her."

"Mr. Johnson, we're all adults here. Think like one. Don't act like a child who does whatever pops into his head. That kind of behavior hurts the people around you—and it hurts you too."

Michael met Lavern's gaze. "I'll admit you have a point. But I'm not handing Evelyn over to you. As you said, you carrying her into your place would be disrespectful to her too."

Without another word, Michael stepped around him and carried Evelyn into his apartment.

He laid her gently on his bed, then went to the bathroom to shower.

When he came out, Evelyn was still sleeping soundly.

Seeing her like this brought an unexpected sense of calm to his chest.

He pulled back the covers, lay down beside her, and drew her into his arms. Then he closed his eyes.

The next morning.

Evelyn opened her eyes to unfamiliar surroundings. Where was she?

Then she saw Michael lying beside her. The events of last night came back to her, and she understood—she was in Michael's apartment.

She'd fallen asleep in the car on the way back, so Michael had carried her straight to his place.

Evelyn frowned.

She shouldn't have fallen asleep in the car last night.

Even though nothing had happened between them, for two divorced people to share a bed wasn't appropriate.

Evelyn quietly slipped out of bed and returned to her own apartment.

The moment she walked through the door, her phone rang. It was Lavern.

[You up? Sleep okay at Michael's place last night?]
