chapter123-miracle

Lucca pov

With the previous setbacks, my mood had calmed considerably.

Before entering the operating room, I even joked with Dr. Herlov, "Do you have a return ticket? I suggest you prepare early, just in case something goes wrong on the operating table, and Vincent might not let you leave the borders of the Pack..."

"Don't worry, you'll be fine," the doctor reassured me seriously.

That day, Vincent had almost cleared his schedule and was waiting at the research facility for the outcome of the surgery.

The housekeeper had advised him for a long time, saying that the surgery would take a long time, and there was no need to wait outside from the beginning.

But he insisted on staying outside the operating room, saying it would make me feel more at ease. Inside the operating room, there were surveillance cameras and screens, allowing for communication with the outside world.

This was also set up by Vincent for security reasons, especially after the fake doctor incident. I communicated with him through the monitor and said, "You're not exactly making me feel more at ease. After my surgery, you might stand in front of the screen and mock the twisted innocence of this heart."

Vincent remained silent. Sometimes he didn't know why his words could anger me. At such a critical moment, silence was the safest choice.

After the anesthesia, I quickly lost consciousness. It felt like I had a short dream. In the blink of an eye, I woke up, surrounded by many people at my bedside: my foster parents, Gloria, Raffle, Vincent, Luna Nataly, and Alice. Rino, who was far away in the Republic of the Pack, had also returned.

They all looked at me with worried expressions. I felt light in my body.

"You'll recover," Gloria smiled and said, "My child."

When I got up, I didn't feel any pain. I took Alice from Luna Nataly's hands and held her tightly, crying.

Under the care of everyone, I recovered extremely quickly. In no time, I was able to get out of bed, and after a day or two, I could move around like a normal person.

Vincent placed the "bucket list" in front of me and expressed his desire to complete the things we hadn't had a chance to do before.

"Go to the amusement park with Alice?" I didn't know why my acceptance of Vincent suddenly increased, and I had no inclination to refuse even his date invitations.

"Sure."

When we went to the amusement park, there was not a single person inside.

It seemed like the staff was hidden away somewhere, and every ride automatically started when we arrived and stopped when we left.

The lions and tigers in the circus performed without needing human direction, colorful balls rolled around, and Alice kept wanting to climb onto them, but I stopped her.

I even tried rides I had never experienced before, and there were many of them that had once been too much for my heart to handle.

I felt a tremendous sense of exhilaration and adrenaline, almost like my heart was about to burst out of my chest.

It was frighteningly real.

Vincent never participated; he just watched from the sidelines.

When I got tired of playing, he would sit with me on a bench, and, at my strong insistence, he would buy a large ice cream cone to share with me.

Alice was happily bouncing on a trampoline nearby.

While holding the ice cream cone, Vincent would suddenly lean down to kiss me.

It tasted like alcohol or disinfectant, clean with a bit of a sharp edge.

"Alice is watching!" I blushed and pushed Vincent away.

"It's okay... it's okay," Vincent's voice sounded concerned. "Don't be afraid."

I felt that something was off.

After returning from the amusement park, I went back to school to attend classes.

Year three, year four, graduation, then postgraduate studies abroad, returning to the school to teach. Time passed as fast as light.

The amendment was successfully overturned because the issue of rogue individuals fell under local government jurisdiction.

In some areas where the black-haired population was too large, the amendment couldn't be fully enforced, resulting in a gray area - the underground academies.

This rendered the law effectively null and void. With time, the opposition grew, and ultimately, through a vote, the pack confirmed the invalidity of the amendment.

Discrimination issues still persisted and were severe.

After returning to the country to teach, I was almost the only black-haired lecturer at Pack University.

I faced many difficulties that Vincent couldn't help with, and I had to deal with them on my own.

Vincent spent a long time settling the divorce case.

As Linda had wished, she gracefully and prosperously left Pack.

In less than half a year, she met a lycan from a Nordic country through the introduction of her sister Mary and successfully married into another wealthy family.

Raffle graduated successfully and started working in the City Hall.

Rino had pursued underground rock music abroad and managed to gain a bit of fame.

Alice grew day by day, embodying the best of both Vincent and me.

She was beautiful, elegant, kind, and intelligent. Her surgery went smoothly, without any side effects, and she grew up healthy and happy.

Unlike me, she had no interest in academia but was passionate about the arts, possibly influenced by Luna Nataly.

She joined the city symphony orchestra in high school and began touring globally.

On her eighteenth birthday, I suggested revisiting the amusement park to reminisce about our past.

Vincent took us back to the deserted amusement park.

I got on the drop tower once again, experiencing that familiar sensation, the intense pressure on my heart.

After getting off the ride, Vincent worriedly supported me. "Lucca?"

"I'm fine," I replied.

"Lucca?" Vincent kept calling my name, but I felt the surroundings getting blurry.

"Don't fall asleep," I gradually realized it wasn't Vincent's voice.

The voices were distorted, noisy, with both male and female voices all blending together. "Lucca, you're okay, hang in there."

"Don't be afraid, we're all here."

"Just hold on a bit longer, keep your consciousness clear, you'll be fine!"

Then these voices gradually faded away.

I felt like I was back at the amusement park, with Vincent supporting me and asking, "Are you okay?"

"I'm okay," I replied uncertainly.

I looked at Vincent, furrowed my brow, stood on tiptoes, and kissed his lips gently.

We kissed softly and deeply, and Vincent's embrace seemed to want to envelop me entirely. I felt a pain in my chest.

I pushed Vincent away, and he let go obediently.

"Lucca," he called my name, his voice tinged with pain. The pain quickly brought me back from the amusement park.

The cacophonous sounds echoed in my ears, including the surgeon's instructions, the vibrations and ticking of various instruments, and even some healthcare worker playing a piano piece.

"She's awake!"

"The readings are stabilizing."

"She regained consciousness!"

Dr. Herlov exclaimed in his native language, "It's a miracle, a true miracle!"
