chapter120-Where's Glory

Vincent pov

Shelter raised his tea cup and took a sip, then asked David, "Is Linda pregnant again?"

David chuckled with a smirk, "Of course not. But I'll take your good wishes."

As it turned out, Wolf Queen didn't show up that day. She wasn't feeling well and had some digestive issues after getting up.

The doctor advised her to rest back in bed. The other lycans gathered around Shelter, chatting away the entire morning.

Most of them assumed I had received advance notice and left to avoid an awkward encounter with Shelter.

But at that moment, I was seething in my car.

"I entrusted you with just one thing, and you can't even handle that? I thought you were worth more than a tracker.

I assumed you were capable of more than a tracker," I fumed.

"Lycan Lord, it was Young Lycan who took her. You know the guards couldn't stop him..."

"I recall saying this after Rino's visit last time—no one, except me, can take her away. What, I'm not dead yet, and he can already fully represent Vincent?"

My scepter in hand gleamed brightly, its wolf head talon extremely sharp. The steward in the front seat dared not breathe in the tense atmosphere.

After a few minutes, I calmed down and asked, "Where did they go?"

"We are currently tracking Young Lycan's car," the steward replied.

"Do I look like I need blood pressure medication? Do I look my age?" I roared, my anger rising again.

The steward chose silence to avoid saying the wrong thing.

Soon, we arrived at the funeral site. I wasn't surprised that Lucca would come here.

"We'll go find Young Lycan," the steward said, reaching to open the car door.

"No need, I've already spotted them," I replied from a distance.

I saw Lucca's silhouette in the crowd. She was wearing a thick cloak and talking to a woman I didn't recognize. Raffle stood nearby, nervously checking his watch.

After Lucca finished her conversation, I approached them.

Raffle tried to explain, but I coldly said, "One last time, Raffle, I hope you can understand human language better than Rino."

Raffle left, sheepish.

I wasn't worried about Lucca; she was crying.

Lucca was still replaying her conversation with the victim's family in her mind. The young woman's hatred, mixed with indescribable remorse, poured out like a tidal wave, threatening to engulf her. Lucca wanted Simon to hear and see it too.

The car had already entered the city.

"Are you feeling better?" I asked when her sobbing had calmed down a bit.

But my question only made Lucca's voice grow louder.

I handed her a handkerchief. "You know, you don't have to answer these kinds of questions. I can tell."

The sound of Lucca blowing her nose made me quickly retreat to the window.

"Are you angry?" Lucca asked me.

"Yes," I replied calmly. "If you ever want to attend a funeral, you don't need to contact him. Just tell me."

Lucca held the handkerchief coldly. "But you wouldn't let me see my foster parents. I remember you even made fun of it."

"I won't do that again," I quickly replied.

"Again, you mean, starting tomorrow?"

She had surgery tomorrow, and her life was uncertain. My calm facade finally couldn't hold.

"You can keep a good face for one day," Lucca mocked.

"It could be considered a feat unseen in the history of lycans."

"You'll be fine," I promised, my tone pale.

Lucca clearly didn't take it seriously. I wanted to say something to salvage the situation when I heard Lucca's phone ring.

"Put it on speaker," I requested. "I want to listen too."

Lucca ignored me and answered the call.

"Hello, may I ask who's calling?"

There was silence on the other end for what seemed like an eternity.

Lucca resisted the instinct to hang up and increased the volume, listening carefully.

A deep, almost desperate inhalation came from the other side, and then the call was abruptly cut off.

"It was Gloria," Lucca said, holding the phone, looking dazed.

Lucca's POV

I contemplated calling back, but another instinct, a more dangerous one, stopped me.

Instead, I decided to call Frank.

"Hello, Dr. Frank, it's Lucca."

"Yes? What can I do for you?"

Dr. Frank sounded extremely tired, and there was background noise around him.

"I'm currently attending an international summit abroad, so it's a bit inconvenient..."

I immediately asked, "Do you know where Dr. Gloria is?"

"She's not feeling well and should be resting at home."

After hanging up with Frank, I informed Vincent about the situation. He told me that we were heading back to the research facility.

"You should stay here and rest," he said, opening the car door.

I didn't want to get out. "I want to go see Gloria at her house."

"I'll have someone check on her for you."

Vincent dropped me off at the research facility and took my phone, urging me to relax.

He knew that there was no one at Gloria's house.

A few days ago, when he had met with "Dr. Herlov" for the first time, he had immediately sensed something was off.

People accustomed to using guns had a different temperament than those who were used to wielding surgical instruments.

When the "doctor" arrived at the pack, Vincent was on vacation and didn't personally greet him.

The doctor went straight to the research facility. At that time, Gloria was feeling unwell but still working.

According to her graduate student's recollection, she had handed over her work to Dr. Herlov only when she couldn't bear it any longer.

Originally, Gloria was supposed to be directly responsible for the surgery, but now Dr. Herlov was handling it alone.

Vincent was not comfortable with this, so he had someone locate Dr. Gloria and bring her back.

However, there was no one at her house, and there were signs of a break-in on the doors and windows.

Her husband, Dr. Frank, was attending a conference abroad this month, so he was unaware of what had been happening at home.

After the phone call had abruptly ended, Vincent immediately contacted the security personnel at the research facility to monitor Dr. Herlov's movements.

He had briefly left the conference just before the call, reportedly to make a phone call.

Now the conference was continuing, and he appeared to be acting perfectly normal.

Vincent was trying to trace Gloria through the recent phone call.
