Chapter 113- taking a vacation

Lucca pov

The next day, I felt extremely uncomfortable.

The bright sun outside penetrated through the curtains and the drapes, casting beams of light onto my face.

I felt sore and stiff, with my entire arm going numb, and when I opened my eyes, I realized it was because Vincent had slept with his arm under my neck.

My position was also awkward, with my feet resting on Vincent's knees.

Judging by the state of the blanket on the floor, it seemed like I had kicked him several times during the night.

I tried to stretch my arm a bit.

"Don't move," Vincent held me firmly.

His eyes were closed, and his breathing was steady and calm. His voice sounded alert, and I couldn't tell how long he had been awake.

I quickly got up to freshen up.

Out of instinct, I began to tidy my backpack.

"You're not going to school today," Vincent reminded me from under the covers. He kept track of what I was doing based on the noises I made.

After a brief pause, he heard the sound of the mini-train moving.

He opened his eyes and saw a few jigsaw puzzle pieces I had placed on the floor.

"Are you still planning to go to the amusement park today as scheduled?" he asked.

"No..." My voice was hoarse, and I quickly drank some water.

"I'm too tired."

"Alright," Vincent didn't say much. He closed his eyes again, possibly drifting back to sleep.

I retreated into the coolness of the drapes, watching the mini-train go round and round until it finally knocked over the jigsaw pieces scattered on the tracks.

I hoped that eating and sleeping alternately would help numb the pain, but I found that I couldn't do it.

I wasn't one to delude myself. I had to confront things head-on, or they would forever weigh on my heart.

A good night's sleep had given me some strength. I sent an email to Simon, demanding that we meet this week, or else I would publicly admit that the Babel Society was responsible for the downtown bombing.

Then, using an alias, I wrote a long email to Gloria.

I narrated in the first person everything that had happened during the eighteen years I had been "adopted."

I made an effort to depict my life with my "adoptive parents" as positively as possible. I told Gloria that I had never been physically abused, grew up healthy and well, and even pursued education.

I informed her that I had been given to the lycans as a rogue but managed to leave the country with the help of a certain aid organization.

I supplemented this with some limited information about daily life in the foreign country based on my observations in the Republican Pack.

After sending the email, I found some food in the kitchen.

Then, I went outside to pick up the scattered postcards and the diamond ring, preparing to return Vincent's belongings to a certain high-ranking individual.

By the time I had completed all of this, it was already afternoon.

"Aren't you getting up?"

I noticed that there was still someone lying motionless under the covers in the room.

"No..." Vincent didn't want to admit it outright, but the busy sounds of my activities were oddly comforting and soothing to him. He had been working tirelessly for months, with almost no days off, catching up on sleep only during his commutes.

I drew the curtains tight, dragged the coat rack over to the bedside, blocking a beam of sunlight falling on Vincent's face.

He looked as though he were floating in the shifting light, creating an incredible illusion.

I couldn't believe that the person who had appeared on the news in the Pack Council Hall yesterday was now quietly lounging in bed.

"Don't stare at me like that," Vincent said with his eyes closed.

He felt the sunlight on his face disappear and was replaced by an even more scorching gaze.

"You really aren't getting up?" I asked him.

"Yes..." Vincent felt unburdened when answering me.

Even when the butler asked him if he wanted to take a nap in the car, he would respond with a sardonic smile, saying, "Will you come help me with the paperwork then?"

I sat on the edge of the bed.

Vincent reached out and embraced my waist. "I want to take a month off too."

It's said that villains never take a break, so when Vincent mentioned he was planning to take a month off, I initially thought he was just casually mentioning it.

However, after he got up, he marked all the addresses mentioned on the "Bucket List" on a map and then went out to make some calls.

That's when I started to think he might be serious.

I hadn't really considered whether individuals like the lycans, Shelter, the Wolf Queen, or the Pack Prime Minister would take a vacation.

In theory, they should take breaks too. However, their holidays often turned into a form of political activity.

For example, the Wolf Queen's hunting events, Vincent's Christmas family gatherings, or Shelter's annual school dance visits.

Even in a place like the Pack, which was resistant to the media, it was hard to avoid the prying eyes of journalists. I figured Vincent's chances of taking a vacation were slim.

Soon, he returned from his phone call. "So, what's your plan?" I asked.

Vincent opened his suitcase and placed it in front of me. "Pack your bags."

I was shocked and opened my mouth in surprise. "Shut up, you look like a salmon gasping for air," Vincent quipped, closing the suitcase.

"Never mind, don't bother packing, we'll buy things when we get there."

"Wait!" I stripped the pillowcase off and shoved the train head into it. Then, I picked up the suitcase.

"Okay, let's go."

I looked at Vincent, suddenly feeling a wave of relief.

"Are we really going? I feel like I'm being too impulsive... I don't even know the destination..."

"You chose the destinations," Vincent said, tossing my bucket list into the suitcase.

"Let's go."

Feeling dazed, I was led to the car and then transferred to a private plane from a private airfield.
