A Chance

Chapter 76

Alucard must have seen that I was still in shock when he sighed and loosened his little hold on my shoulders. "My apologies, Faustina...I should not have done that..." he said, his voice turning gentle.

He gradually moved, lowering himself to the floor and leaning against the couch. The anguish was evident on his attractive face, stirring a sense of guilt in me as my inner wolf felt the urge to harm me for causing his distress.

I bit my lower lip in guilt, not knowing that I reacted like that. No, it was because I never wanted to hear his explanation.

"We already talked about this before, Alucard. I wouldn't want to listen to your explanation."

I needed to remind him about when we were still on our last mission. It was the day of my birthday when I had to put some walls between us, wanting to drift us apart.

And my decision didn't please my wolf. She had been wanting to hear Alucard's explanation but to no avail; I was more stubborn than a mule.

I waited for Alucard to respond, but he remained unresponsive and was looking at nowhere. This urged me to remove my heels to feel the soft carpet as I sat on it.

"Just because I asked for your forgiveness about what happened in our last mission, it does not mean that you are going to push through on insisting to explain on why you rejected me, Alucard." His forest-green eyes gradually pierced my whole being. "You need to respect my decision. You need—"

"But you still want me, right?"

I was taken aback when he cut me off. This time, my heart was pounding so fast that his expression became earnest.

Alucard tilted his head, observing my face devoid of emotions. "The manner in which you react to my kisses, the way you affectionately called me 'pudding,' the grip you maintain on me, and your response to our past lovemaking," he paused, narrowing his eyes. "Explain, Faustina. Despite the severed mate bond, you still respond to me, holding on as if we were back in the past."

My breath hitched as he began crawling my way with those predator's eyes.

"Do you want me to show you how you yearn for me, dollface? If I prove it to you, you must give us a chance again." My eyes widened in shock, not believing what I was just hearing.

"What do you mean g-give us a chance?" I leaned back, creating a distance from him by crawling backward as my heart kept beating so fast that I could tell that he was trying to trap me. "Didn't I say that it's over between us?"

I wanted to get away from him as soon as possible. But my legs wouldn't even want to obey me to stand up. I felt like Alucard was restraining my feet at this moment as I was distancing myself from him.

"And besides, I do not want to hear your explanation..." I added but flinched when I felt a barrier behind me, only to see my back leaning toward the furnace.

Alucard scoffed and smirked. He drew closer, looking down at my lips before meeting my eyes again. "Fine. If you do not want me to explain why I have done it, give me a chance to prove that I am not the same Alucard back then."

I gasped when he settled in between my legs. I was still processing his words, but I felt my heart would explode.

"I-Is this what you mean, eloping?" I tried to change the subject, unsure how to answer him. He caught me off guard, so my mind wasn't recuperating.

"Is kidnapping you consider eloping?" he asked. It looked like he wasn't asking me, but more to himself. Then, his rosy lips lifted a smirk. "Faustina Miles Bellwood."

My internal being tightened at the mention of my full name. My wolf rejoiced, reveling in the proximity of Alucard, our breaths intertwining closely.

"What?" I gulped one more time, preparing myself for his other unexpected move.

"Can you perceive my devotion to you?" He gestured with his head, encompassing the mansion. "Can you witness my adoration for our pups, born of you?" This time, he gently took my hand and brought it to his lips. "Tell me, Faustina. Why did you think I mourn for you when I thought that you really died?" I opened my mouth to answer him because of the guilt when he rejected me, but Alucard answered differently. "Because I love you so much that I almost killed myself just to follow you in the afterlife."

I knew that I had heard those words before. I thought that it was a half-baked truth, but I confirmed it to Azarius, Alucard really did try to kill himself.

"Don't you want to give me another chance? I will prove I am not the same Alucard you knew back then." He continued kissing my hand, which sent tingles down my spine.

I licked my lips, my insides in turmoil right now. "Is this why you brought me here?" He didn't answer me, but his eyes never left mine. "What? Is that a yes?"

"What do you think?"

My surroundings felt like they were suffocating me from his hoarse response. If I were the same Faustina, I would be melting right now. That was supposed to be the strongest thought I would have in my mind; however, judging by how intense his gaze was, I knew by then that I was melting without a doubt.

"A-Are you doing this because of Charity?"

I didn't know what came to my mind suddenly, but the reply blurted out of my mouth.

I expected his face to darken, which could mean I offended him, but he sighed and shook his head.

"This isn't about Charity, Faustina," Alucard's tone remained unwavering. "The moment we kissed last night, with the certainty that you still desired me, I realized I wouldn't squander any more opportunities. So, my beloved dollface, I had to ask for another chance from you." My heart felt like it wanted to escape from my chest when he looked at me with those pleading eyes. "The reason I was upset with you during our last mission was the concern that you took action without consulting me. While you may have set a boundary between us, my care for you never waned. Despite the desire to embrace you, I honored your wishes," he expressed, the pain evident in his eyes.

I pressed my lips into a thin line, my heart breaking apart.

"You see? I never took advantage of you, did I?" he whispered gently, causing me to nod obediently, which surprised me. "I can be trusted... I'm not the same Alucard you once knew, Faustina..." His pleading eyes felt like they were penetrating my soul, rendering me motionless. "Despite everything, I still love you. My love for you remains unwavering. If I keep this to myself and never admit it again, I fear I might lose my sanity." He tightened his grip on my hand and gazed at me with affection. "I could never bring myself to love another woman, only you. Please... Just one more chance, Faustina..."

Seeing him begging that matched his tone and his gaze, it was right at that moment when my wolf was giving in as she tried to coax me, chanting that I should give our former mate a chance.

And I knew by then what to tell him.

"I will think about it."

Alucard's face brightened as soon as those words slipped out of my mouth. "Really?"

I felt a cold and warm air passing through my nape, seeing his adorable reaction. No wonder our pups had the same expression as him.

They were really the father of my triplets.

Nodding, I licked my lips one more time, feeling parched. "Give me three days to decide." I could almost scream at myself as this decision was undecided.

Smiling, Alucard bestowed me another kiss on my hand. "I will wait for your decision."

Before I could even tell him that he needed to distance himself from me, he lowered his head so he could capture my lips, making my eyes widen in shock.
