Chapter 98 Burning of witches
After that day, Melissa went back to focusing on her work. The week would end in two days and Melissa was barely halfway with the book she was supposed to read. Most of the things in it were boring reports that didn't really matter, as most of them were the things Melissa already knew and others were only accurate in the past.
She sat on her chair now, flipping the pages and reading them all with scrutiny, if she could just find anything that would just at least help them out quickly. Though she doubted she'd need this book anymore if the Mageret woman turned out to be the actual writer of this report. Melissa yawned and gave up at last. She couldn't stomach anymore of the reports.
She rose up from her chair and headed straight to the training ground where Richard was already waiting. Ever since yesterday night they haven't really spoken to each other. It was more as if they were giving each other space to breathe.
She found him with his kegs upside down while pushing his entire weight up and down. Hr saw her and smiled but he didn't speak to her. Anyone who doesn't actually know them would think they were fighting as they only did train throughout the hours.
When Melissa was done , he left his side to shower in her room and as usual she resumed with her paperwork. That was all she did till it was evening. She barely ate in between jobs. Today, the amount of paperwork she had to do had the most volume and most of them were highly sensitive cases.
At last she stopped working for the day and decided to lie down a bit on the bed while waiting for her food. She hadn't laid down for ten minutes when she slept off.
Once again her subconscious descended through a void of blackness into an imagined realm. She was sitting in a church again and the witch was in front of her
"We meet again," the witch said with a smile
Melissa scoffed. "You seem really happy to see me," she said.
"Of course I am, you are the one who will get my daughter back for me," she said, keeping a smile on her face.
Melissa exhaled. "Well, I want to thank you for helping me fight my own demons. I now know my mate," she said.
Melissa was really thankful. She'd spent two lives trying to figure this out and she'd given her the perfect answer to all she was seeking. "So definitely now, I will have to help you," Melissa said. "Tell me all I need to know about your daughter," Melissa said.
The woman exhaled. "Thank you," she muttered. She smiled. "I will have to start from the very beginning, and I do not think one dreamscape is enough to finish it," she said. "So I'd complete it in the next dreamscape," she shifted her weight, bent her head down, gesturing to her if she understood. Melissa nodded and the woman began.
"Okay, I already told you earlier, my name is Diane Whitmore, a human witch. I was born in Minnesota, in the United States. I believe your wolf realm bleeds into the country. If not the continent." She smiled. "I married there before I even knew I was a witch and gave birth to twins. A daughter and a son," when she said the word son, Melissa noticed her face went sad.
"The order of witches came to take me after their births and they took my daughter with me. If you know how the order works, I didn't really have a choice. I had to leave my life, my job, my son… Greg, my husband, all alone in that cold harsh world. I couldn't explain the reality of it to them, I don't want my husband collapsing into a pile of worms just because I said something I shouldn't."
Melissa nodded, humans do not process reality the way most supernatural species do . They couldn't handle the truth, so either they ignored it or just died in the most horrific way possible. So humans do not necessarily know so much about wolves or witches, most of them even think it is a myth.
"So anyways, after years of training, roughly thirty five years, I became one of the most powerful and respected of the witches. You see, my family name, before I got married, was Winchester. I was said to possess the power from an ancient line of witches that use the same surname, and I found this to be through,"she said.
"I could never go back to my son, nor could I go back to his father, but I always stalked them in the human realm, always making sure they were okay. Till some of my enemies began to discover that I loved them," this time around her eyes were teary. "Love… it is a weakness. I wished I was born like them… the others without loyalty or love, just cruelty." She said, then turned to Melissa with a smile. "Sorry."
"Anyways it was during this time a wolf whom I cannot mention his name#," she said.
"And why is that?" Melissa asked.
"I have a curse placed on me," she said.
"Okay continue," Melissa said.
"A wolf came by and told the order of witches of this grand plan he had to rule this world, but he couldn't do it without the witches. It was a trap and I could smell it from a mile away. But I was not the only powerful and respected witch. The witches decided to take a vote on the occasion," she paused.
"After the vote, it was decided to help with their project. The witches trusted the man and in one night it led to their pack a myriad of them and burned down all the witches. My new family, all of them gone except me, my daughter and two other witches." She said, "My daughter's name is Clarissa," she informed and Melissa nodded.
"We are out of time, when next we meet, I'd continue," she informed and the dream dissolved.
