Chapter 96 Nostalgia
Melissa exhaled and Richard held her hand. Her mother was staring right at her from the screen and she just knew at that moment that she would never get over her. It wasn't necessarily something even time can heal. She exhaled and shook her head.
The contents of the flash seemed to be a forty five minute video, so she nodded to Richard to play it. She was done running from stuffs like this, but she felt sorrowful, all her wounds had been opened up again
"You sure you want to watch this with me, it might be a little bit sensitive," Richard said.
"I don't care about that, I want you here cause you are the only family I have left. The only other person who I would share my entire life with." She said, "Plus, we don't know what the video is all about, so play it," she said, gesturing to him to do it by bulging her eyes. Richard found it cute and then kissed her before actually pressing the play button.
The video began with Melissa's mom just smiling blankly at the screen, for a minute or two and then she asked someone behind the camera. "Am I on?" She asked.
"Yes," a voice that was unmistakably Richard's father said. Melissa glanced at Richard and he smiled in a relaxed tone.
"Then why didn't you talk," Melissa's mom screamed.
"Diane," Richard's dad said.
"Hey," Melissa's mom said into the camera.
"Who the hell says hey at the beginning of a recording, such an old woman," Another voice said and they recogize that to be Dreykov. He had this mischievous tone to his voice and it made Melissa giggled.
"Dreykov," she muttered silently.
Melissa's mom was obviously furious by the statement. "Greydon, hold your son, before I break him in half," she said.
"Oh, so now he is my son?" Greydon's voice said.
Melissa looked at Richard excitedly. "All of them are here." He said.
"So it would seem," she replied.
Melissa's mom just shook her head and turned to the camera. "Hey, Melissa. If you are listening or watching this video, something terrible has probably happened and we are all dead," she said.
The room felt silent and even Richard was completely focused now. "I am very sorry for any sorrows, and any pain we might have given you, I promise it wasn't our intention,"her mom said.
"We discovered this future a little too late and we tried all means but it wanted something we could change," she said. I am sorry all you would be getting from me is a video but I want you to know I love you my darling," sh said. "Goodbye Melissa, till we meet," she dropped a tear from her eyes before leaving the camera front.
"Greydon it is your turn," she said.
Then there was a sound of heavy footsteps and Greydon made his way to the front of the camera. "Hey Little One," he said. 'I don't know what to say, it is really hard to say anything to someone you know you would eventually hurt. Maybe we shouldn't have done this in the first place but…" he exhaled. " I don't want you to live in sorrow in the first place. All of our decisions seem to always come back to hurt you, and I am sorry for that, most of those decisions were mine," he said.
"I think Melissa knows you have zero decision making prowess," Dreykov said from afar.
"Hey shut up," Daine shut him up.
Greydon smiled. "Remember baby girl, you are the best decision of my life." He said and then left.
By this time, tears were falling down Melissa's cheeks like it was a waterfall. She sobbed on, pausing the video. "I'm sorry," he told Richard and the latter nodded. "It is a little too much," she said.
She took off her shirt as she felt a primal kind of heat, heating her up from the insides. She pressed play again.
"Tyr," Daine said. "Go next."
Tyr was Richard's father. "No, let the boy talk to his sister, I can come after that," he said.
Dreykov screamed from behind the scene and then there was a slapping sound Dreykov yelled.
"Mom?" He said.
"That is for being stupid," she said.
Melissa remembered this very well and it made her giggle. The entire time Melissa's been crying but that made her smile. Dreykov and her mom always were at loggerheads about everything as Drekov had always been a boy that was too smart for his age and he always teases mom.
"Hey," Dreykov said as he reached the camera. "Brat,"he smiled.
"Don't be stupid," Diane screamed from afar, "Don't call your baby sister brat the last time you'd ever talk to her." Diane scrambled from afar.
"Not your sister so don't interfere," Dreykov replied.
"Brat. I just wanted you to know that remember to be strong alone. The entire world might come for you just hit them with a few jabs like I taught you." He said. "I love you Melissa, and this is goodbye," he said and then left.
Melissa giggled. Dreykov had never really been good with words, in fact only her mother was. Her family was filled with people who liked to express things by their actions and seldom their words. Her dad only talks when he is absolutely certain he needed to or when her mother was nagging.
Tyr was the one on camera now. "Hey, Richard," he said. "I have not much to tell you about my boy but I am going to be dead in about a few weeks tops. How I will die, I do not know and you might probably never even see this,"he said. "I just hope if you do, our wishes come through and both you and Melissa are together trying to rule this whole mess. I know you will make a good ruler alongside her, so please always remember that your strength is not the only thing that is special about you. Control is the only tool that can help you, I love you, boy. This is goodbye." He said and turned around.
The video went silent for a while and Richard's room was too. Neither of them spoke, the nostalgia, the feeling, the entire understanding just held them in a limbo. At last someone spoke from the video. "Oh, we need to edit some things out." Greydon said. "Daine and Dreykov bicker like siblings all the time," he said.
"Take that back mister," her mother said.
"No," Dreykov said. "Let us leave it like this, it will make her remember us more and probably give her the strength to push forward. Leave it all as it is. Pull the plug," he said and Melissa could sense he was smiling.
Tyr just scoffed. "You guys are unprofessional," then the video went dark and it ended.
