Chapter 75 Siblings
What I am about to tell you is a little bit confidential," Nathaniel began. "I decided we should meet at the palace because I felt it would be safer there," he paused and read the reaction on all their faces before scoffing. "At least for me, but as it would seem, you have your own demons to hunt," he said.
Melissa scanned him from head to toe again, he didn't seem like Beatrice in anyway. While Beatrice gave off that aura of confidence and authority with her piercing grey eyes and her professional posture, he gave off the aura of a notorious and very troublesome person. She felt as if she could not trust him with a glass cup, he'd shatter it just to get the feeling.
"So, like I said, the Vance pack only trusted me with this information," when he said this all the emotion in the room changed. "I need to know how this doesn't come back to bite me," he said.
"So, you are in cohorts with the Vance pack?"Beatrice asked, raising her head as she directed a frowned gaze towards Nathaniel.
"Not the Vance pack, I am not their president, come on," he replied. "Just that there is someone in the Vance pack that I might anger and I really don't want to…" he said, breaking off. "...look just know, I don't want this to lead back to me," he cleared his throat the moment he stopped.
Melissa looked him in the eyes with an hint of disdain. "I don't think if you know that this isn't any kind of game, or drill. I am the queen of the entire Dunham pack, and I have my personal advisors here with me. You really think talking about having an alliance with the Vance pack is the best way to start this conversation?" she threatened.
Melissa felt as if his main plan was to make fun of them, which she wouldn't take lightly. This was serious business and not something to be trifled with. The casual way he said it and the emotions she could feel when he did, seemed to confirm her thoughts. He was taking the entire matter a little less seriously than he should.
"Okay," he said, his emotion fluctuating a bit. "Maybe I said this in a wrong tone, or wrong demanour but, I am a business man and I have to protect the interest of my business too." he said.
Beatrice scoffed, and had a look that made Melissa feel thst she would soon stand up and land a slap on Nathaniel's cheek. "You really think your business and its interest are more important than the matters of the kongdom's security. Have you gone mad?"she asked.
"Okay. Look. I never said that. I do business with a lot of people. Most of them are from outside here. Not all of us got into the council. We had to survive one way or the other." he replied with a piercing gaze.
Melissa, Avalors and Richard glanced at each other and their eyes told them everything they needed to know. What was happening was steering off the Vance pack issue.
"Dunham is big enough to run your business and don't tell me that like I got a sit on the council on a silver platter. I struggled, even when you chose to leave me. I struggled." She replied me, and for the first time, Melissa could feel the entire emotions pouring out from Beatrice's face. The first time she'd see her not make a blank face when angry. She was actually showing it, her breaths were uneven, her fingers were tapping the chair repeatedly, like she did when she was thinking.
"Dunham is in the hands of the royals and a blind man can see that. I do my business with whomever I please. Even if I were to wrestle angels from the heavens, you still won't approve it because I didn't do it your way and If I was given a thousand chances, I'd choose my way all the time," he said.
Melissa was feeling a whole lot of strength sipping into her. These two were oozing out extremely strong emotions.
"I don't care about the way you choose. But as it seems you are always interested in things that will flip you to the otherside. You are in cahoots with an enemy of the pack…"
"...I do business with them!" he screamed shutting her up. "I am only here to protect the plausibility of still continuing business with them and also keeping my head intact," he replied, his agitation increasing by the minute.
"Heh," Beatrice scoffed. "Oh, now, your head is at risk too? Are your business partners with mafias too?"
"You just said you didn't care. You never did. Why should I answer you? You are the reason why you don't know what I am doing. If you want my help, you'll stop squabbling over the past and focus." Nathaniel said in a calmer tone this time.
"I am the one… Yeah, you blame me for all your mistakes. It is always me, everytime. Yeah sure… I offered you everything, but you spat in my face." she replied in the same calm tone, nodding.
"You were never there, you never stood there. You always said it's for us… but mostly it was for you. You never stayed home or wanted to, your goals were…"
"You think I wanted to be in the palace? You think…" Beatrice paused and scoffed. "You are right.." she said. "Maybe I was never there, don't think I will be now."
This time Melissa spoke. She'd listened to the back and forth to realize what had happened. "You will, actually. I don't really want to know what's going on, but you won't get another chance to sort this."she said, standing up as Richard and Avalors did at the same time too.
"What are you doing?" Beatrice asked.
"Leaving you two to talk things out… we can talk later," Melissa sensed Beatrice opening her mouth but she shut her up. "That is an order," she said. "Look. I have had squabbles with Dreykov. There was a year we didn't speak to each other. Right now, I want to take all those times back, because for godsake, I want him back. You two… you have each other now, right here. Don't let death be the only reason you want to sort your troubles. I lost my brother to death, I don't want to see you lose yours in life."she concluded and walked out with Richard and Avalors.
