Chapter 192 Unraveling Alliances.
Richard POV
I saw her slowly sit down on the couch as her tears began to stream down her cheeks. “You have to calm down, Melissa. Just calm down,” I said to her, immediately fetching her a glass of chilled water. She kept on crying.
“How could the lion die? He was such a strong man. He was a very kind man. What could have happened to him? Who could have done this to the lion? Somebody must have really plotted this against him. It can never have been a coincidence,” she said to me as I kept on comforting her.
“She just calmed down. I need to go for his funeral,” she said to me as I nodded my head in affirmation.
“But you can't let them see you. You never can tell what those people can do. They are dangerous,” I said to her, but she immediately got up and went to dress up. I followed that trail behind her as we got ready to go for the lion's funeral.
Immediately we got there, she put on her sunglasses and a hat as we didn't want to be recognized by anybody. We stood at a corner watching as everybody was crying and mourning at the lion's funeral. Slowly, Melissa started crying all over again.
“This is not supposed to happen to him. Especially not someone like the lion. He was such a good man. He was very kind. He was good to everybody. Now he just had to face this kind of fate. Someone must have definitely killed him. I don't believe that he... this was a mistake. It must have been someone from his family. An insider would have done this to him. The lion is not that easy to kill. Someone that knew him very well and someone that was very close to him must have done this to him,” Melissa said to me as I nodded my head in agreement.
“What do you think? It would be one of his children?” she looked directly at them as they were acting as if they were sad about their father's death. “One of them, either Diana, Eve, or Silas, must have done this to the lion. Who knows, maybe all three of them even planned it together,” she said to me as I pondered her ideas.
“One of them must be the culprit. And I'm very sure they would have covered up their dirty secrets perfectly so that no one would ever notice what they have done,” I said to her as she turned to look at me.
“Eve saw me just now. What did you do? What if she saw you? We need to get out of here immediately!”
“It's not safe yet, Melissa,” I tried convincing her as she immediately followed me back to the car before we drove out of the funeral house. She just sat quietly till we got home, and she did not even say anything to me.
“Enough for now, Melissa. The lion is gone. There is nothing we can do about it. His children are aware of his death. They all have a hand in it. But who are we? We are not even his family. So we can't just stick our nose into other people's business to avoid trouble for ourselves,” I tried convincing her as she calmed down a bit. I hoped that to console her and she felt relieved.
Not long after, her phone rang. As she immediately picked it up, she looked up at me and said, “You have to get ready. There is an emergency board meeting. I wonder what is going on right now?”
She said as we immediately dressed up and went to the company. All of the board members had already arrived at the meeting conference room. As soon as we walked in, it felt as if we were the ones they were all waiting for. One of the board members started talking about why they had called an emergency meeting immediately.
Then another stood up and said, “We don't want Melissa to lead us anymore. We don't want her to be our president any longer. We prefer a king to Melissa,” he said as another supported his decision. Then almost half of the board members supported his decision, stating that they wanted Melissa to step down from her position and for Avalor to take over.
My Melissa looked at them puzzled. I immediately stared directly at her as I could see that she was choked, shocked by what was happening right now. Even Avalor's mother was also there, and she had already supported the decision for Avalor to be the new president and for Melissa to step down.
Melissa immediately slammed her hands on the table and stood up angrily.
“No matter what you say right here today, your opinion does not really bother me that much because I am not stepping down from my position, and nobody's taking my company from me!” she blurted out as she stormed out of the conference room.
I immediately followed behind her as I could visibly hear the mumbling and whispering of board members who were protesting against her.
“What could have caused all of this? Why are all of these people really protesting against Melissa all of a sudden? What could have happened?” I thought to myself as I followed Melissa into her office.
She was visibly angry as she threw her phone down on the table. “What else was going on in there when I didn't know they were planning all this? So they have been planning to really make me step down from my position and make Avalor the new president. I'm very sure this is all of Avalor's plan!”
She immediately turned to me as I looked directly into her eyes. Her eyes were red with fury.
“Already get me the document of all of the board members who had supported Avalor back then. I want the list of every one of them and their documents right now on my table!” she said to me, angry as I just looked at her and nodded, walking out of the office to go get the documents.
