Chapter 169 Psychic pool
(Two days ago)
Beatrice had no other thoughts in her head than Melissa, she couldn't even focus on her mission. She had never thought that in her life she would bond with royalty but the little girl had found a way into her heart. She remembered how she advised Nathaniel when they were kids. She would tell him the royalty had nothing to offer them, they only see everyone else has slaves and for most of her life she held on steadfast to that belief.
But Melissa was different, she held her comrades higher than any other would and was even willing to sacrifice herself for them. And it wasn't just about duty or service to the country she embodied the true essence of a wolf far more than any of them. She didn't see them as expendables or workers, she saw them as friends.
That notion at first seemed a little strange to Beatrice. Normally she didn't really have any friends in fact the only friend she had was a young ten year old girl she met when she went to Vance and they'd only talk for about two days. She knew she was bad at making connections or warming up to other people so she always held herself in a stoic manner.
“Uhm reduce the speed please?” Arya said from behind the car and Beatrice nodded, for a second there she had forgotten she was at the wheels of a car. She could hear Vanessa and Candice chuckling from behind her and Avalors had his seatbelt fastened as he stared at her with a cautious gaze.
She exhaled and stopped the car. “Will you drive?” She turned to Avalors.
“Please,” the man replied, getting out of the car quickly before she would decide to change her mind. Beatrice realized she must have been going way too fast to actually scare Avalors. She exhaled and shifted into his seat.
Avalors entered and ignited before driving off and this eased off Beatrice and gave her time to dive into her thoughts as she was thinking about loads of things, all of which centered around Melissa.
She was the queen of all of this and it was under her that Dunham had the most rapid development. Even her father, the best of his kind, couldn't have achieved what she had in this short amount of time. Though truth be told, her old man already laid the groundwork for all she was doing.
What made Melissa different however was the fact that she was just a young girl who actually cared about a very rare commodity. Most people her age go through a stage where everything is just about them and what they are gonna enjoy, Melissa however held everyone's comfort first.
She could remember her before her parents died, she was nothing short of a spoiled brat and would say anything as nonchalantly as she could without any remorse. There wasn't any filter to her words, just blatant teenage snarky responses. When her parents had died and she knew she was the one getting the throne, Beatrice thought it was over for the kingdom.
Although she did tell them that she failed once, still she didn't turn her entire second chance into a revenge oriented war. She loved the kingdom and its people and it is that same love that she'd shown Beatrice that made her attached to her on a deeper level. Almost as deep as her mate, she was honest.
“Hashar,” Beatrice muttered before slamming her head against the car seat's headrest. She just remembered he was also going to follow Melissa. If things went wrong and the Infernal's bold plan went awry, she would practically lose the most important people in her life and she would be stuck with Nathaniel forever.
For some reason the entire thought made her angry. She would have been there with them if not for the people from Vance pack. Why couldn't they stick to being loyal.
“Hey,” she felt a hand on the back of her hand and she glanced up. It was Avalors looking at her with a smile. “Are you okay?” He asked.
“Yes, I am fine,” she replied.
“Why are your fangs and claws out then?” He said and Beatrice glanced at her fingers and found out his assessment was true she quickly willed it back in before exhaling loudly. “It is also getting a little too chilly in this car,” he said.
Beatrice breathed in sequence to calm herself down. “I am sorry about that,” she said.
Avalors smiled. “The plan will work and Melissa is going to be okay, and so will your mate,” he said.
“How do you know that?” She asked, turning towards the car window.
“He doesn't,” Arya said from behind. “But he believes and that alone is enough,” she said.
Beatrice looked back. “That is just ridiculous, belief has nothing to do with this and it would never do,” she said, shaking her head.
“Actually it does,” Arya said. “While I was in the Oracle, there was a scientist who worked for them; Mathias Scoffield. He researched mostly the mind of wolves and he theorized that there was something called the psychic pool,” she paused and let the word sink in. “It is a collection of the residual mental energy that we leave when we actively think of something. He claims if that pool his big enough, it can affect reality in itself.”
“And does he have an example of this?” Beatrice asked.
“Yes,” Hance spoke this time. “The gods. He claimed they were brought into reality by our collective thoughts,” he said.
“Still ridiculous,” Beatrice replied.
“Even if it is my lady,” Candice said from behind. “You can give it a try, it doesn't hurt to believe,” she said and then chuckled a bit.
Beatrice smiled in front and what they all said had actually placed her in a better mood, probably because it was so ridiculous. Avalors stepped on the gas and they drove forward at blinding speed.
