Chapter 161 Let me help
She headed out of the room with the inquisitor behind her and they headed straight to the room they were detaining Joyce. Melissa glanced at her through the glass and she was just a normal Joyce. She seemed to have requested for cigars and somehow she turned it into a firecracker. She sat there as the cigars cackled in blisters of crackling flames.
Melissa shook her head and they walked past the glass going round to open the door to her room. She sat down there smiling as Melissa walked in. “Heeey,” she smiled heartily. “I am caught in quite the hiccup am I not?” She said with a chuckle.
The two who just came in sat down right in front of her. She had one of her hands clasped against the table with a handcuff. So to give herself comfort she needed to have both hands on the table at all times. Melissa knew how hard it is when your freedom is restricted but Joyce didn't really seem to mind though. She was beaming as she usually was and she was making firecrackers with the contents inside of the cigar to keep herself busy.
“Joyce, I hope you are okay?” She asked
“Yes, I am.. am I?” She looked at the sticks of mutilated cigars in front of her. “I am fine with the little freedom I've got now but I would sincerely like a little more. I mean my fate is sealed already,” she said and then yawned.
Melissa nodded and then buzzed a button at the edge of their own button. Soon two sentinels opened the door and then came to answer their requests. “Uncuff her,” Melissa ordered.
“I am not sure that is wise your maj…” the Sentinel began an explanation that 2as unwarranted. Melissa gave him a glare and he swallowed his words. He rushed forward and uncuffed Joyce who exhaled and closed her eyes to breathe.
“The air of freedom,” she said.
Melissa scoffed. “So how are you feeling now?”
“Thankful and a little bit disappointed to be honest… maybe heartbroken,?” She gently dusted the particles of cigars into her hand and then went to pour it in the bin adjacent to her. She didn't sit anymore however, she just stood in the room resting her back on the metal wall.
“Why are you disappointed? Jacob hasn't come?” Melissa asked.
Joyce glanced up and Melissa could sense a little pain in her eyes. “Yes… and I am not sure he would anyways. I am a criminal, why would he want anything to do with me again,” she breathed and just came back to her seat.
“That…” Melissa really didn't have any words of comfort to say, she didn't understand why Jacob hadn't at least come to see her. She also noticed that he'd just given someone his role as Hance's bodyguard. She hoped he was alright and she also hoped he didn't just discard Joyce.
“Jacob is a responsible man,” Jenese intervened in her stead. “I am sure that the reason he's not here yet is because he is trying to get you out of here. I have met the man and he is one of the most strong willed people I have ever met “
Joyce nodded, then glanced at both of them with a scrutinizing gaze. “Why are you guys really here? I am guessing it is not just to say high and goodbye,” she drummed her fingers on the table. “You guys are suspicious,” she added.
“Joyce, we are here to find a way to get you out,” Melissa said.
She burst into laughter and then glanced up, fake cleaning tears from her eyes. “Did you watch the video?”, She asked.
“I did,” Melissa nodded.
“Well, that feed showed me… and that was me. It wasn't blurry at all. It was my face looking at Jensen's computer and wiping out the feeds,” she said. “There is no getting me out of this… at all! Go live your life princess, I am going to be fine,” she exhaled and then laid back on the chair.
Melissa looked at her for a while before speaking again. “I am no longer Princess Joyce and I can get you out, I just need your cooperation to do it,” she said.
Joyce opened her mouth to complain again but this time the Inquisitor raised a finger. “I believe you should trust the queen in this situation and cooperate with her. I do not want you spending the rest of that brilliant mind's life behind bars, wasting away because you never tried to help yourself,” he leaned forward, then started to speak in what seemed like whispers.. “Have you imagined it…? Prison, I mean. At first the likes of the queen and her friends will come to see you daily, then overtime, it reduces to weekly till they forget you even existed. And as you rot away in silence, surrounded by nothing but hostility, depravity and wickedness, you ponder what you could have done to make it right. Well this is it, sit down and let your friend help you.”
Even Melissa appeared a little uncomfortable with the vivid image the guy just painted. Joyce glanced at Melissa and nodded. “Please speak,” she said.
Melissa mouthed a thank you to Jenese but shifted an inch away from him. Inquisitors were indeed scary entities. They have mastered the human mind in respect to statements. They know what to say to you at exact moments and it makes them very scary people. “Did you do it?” She asked her.
“This is your plan?” Joyce folded her arms.
”Answer me truthfully Joyce,” she said looking directly into her eyes. “Did you do it?”
“No… I didn't,” Melissa focused her aura on her emotions, heartbeat and disposition. It was all normal, no unusual spike, nothing.
“She is telling the truth,” Melissa turned to Jenese.
“As I would believe, so I think we need her to give us a detailed narration of how she spent that day,” Jenese replied and then brought out a pen. He then wrote something on the paper and stretched it towards Melissa.
“CAN YOU CLEAR THE ROOM'S SECURITY CAMS.”
That was what was written in block letters and Melissa nodded, she spread her aura and forcefully broke all the cam. And just in case she missed anyone, she coated the entire table with her aura. “Okay, Joyce, let us hear it,” she ordered.
