Chapter 99 First Major Magical Discovery
POV: Luna
The next morning, Sienna pulls me aside before breakfast.
"I found something in the restricted section. Something about your family. You need to see this."
We gather the whole group in an empty classroom.
Sienna spreads out old documents on a desk. Maps. Journals. Drawings.
"These are records of Eclipse wolves throughout history. Specifically, items they carried. Artifacts tied to their power."
"What kind of artifacts?" I ask.
"Relics. Enchanted objects that resonate with Eclipse magic. Your grandmother had several. They were hidden around Silverwood when she died. For safekeeping. Waiting for the next Eclipse to claim them."
"Where are they?"
"Scattered. But I've identified three locations on campus where the magical signature matches Eclipse resonance." She points to the map. "Old chapel ruins. The underground archives. And somewhere in the eastern forest."
"Why would my grandmother hide them?"
"Protection. If they fell into wrong hands, they could be used to track Eclipse wolves. Control them. Maybe even corrupt them." Sienna looks at me seriously. "But in your hands, they could amplify your power. Help you master abilities you're struggling with."
"Or they could make me more dangerous. Give the Council more reasons to bind me."
"That's a risk. But it's also an opportunity. These artifacts are your birthright. Your legacy. They were meant for you."
"Let's find them," Aria says. "Even if we don't use them immediately, better in our hands than someone else's."
We agree to search in pairs. Less suspicious than all five of us wandering around together.
Aria and Lyric take the chapel ruins. Nova and Sienna head to the archives.
I go to the eastern forest alone. Against better judgment. But I want to face this personally.
The location Sienna marked is deep in the woods. Past where students normally go.
I follow magical intuition more than directions. My mark guiding me.
After twenty minutes of walking, I find it.
A small clearing. A single stone marker. Weathered. Ancient.
And buried beneath it, I can feel something. Pulsing. Calling to my mark.
I dig carefully with magic. Moving earth and rocks without touching them.
Finally, I uncover it.
A small wooden box. Preserved by spells. Intact despite decades underground.
I open it slowly.
Inside is a ring. Silver. With a crescent moon design. And at its center, a stone that glows faintly.
The moment I touch it, my mark ignites.
Bright. Hot. Resonating with the ring's energy.
Visions flood my mind.
My grandmother wearing this ring. Using it to channel moon magic. To amplify her Eclipse power. To connect with the goddess directly.
This wasn't just jewelry. This was a tool. A conduit.
I slip it onto my finger.
Immediately, I feel different. Stronger. More connected to my Eclipse nature.
The ring hums with power. And my mark pulses in response. Like they're communicating.
I spend an hour in the clearing. Experimenting. Testing what the ring can do.
It amplifies my magic. Makes spells stronger. Cleaner. More efficient.
It enhances my wolf senses. Lets me detect magical signatures from much further away.
And most importantly, it stabilizes my power. Makes it easier to control. Less likely to surge uncontrollably.
This could solve my Council problem. Prove I'm in control. That my power isn't dangerous.
I'm about to leave when I hear it.
The goddess's voice. Whisper-quiet.
"You've found the first key, daughter of Eclipse."
"First key? There are more?"
"Three artifacts. Three keys. Each unlocks a different aspect of Eclipse power. The ring you wear unlocks control. The second unlocks knowledge. The third unlocks potential."
"What happens when I have all three?"
"You become what you were meant to be. Fully realized. Completely Eclipse. With all the power and responsibility that entails."
"And the trials?"
"The artifacts will help you survive them. But they cannot complete the trials for you. That you must do alone."
"When is the next trial?"
"Soon. The trial of power. It will test whether you can wield strength without being consumed by it. Whether you can remain yourself even when granted unlimited potential."
"That sounds terrifying."
"It is. Many Eclipse wolves fail this trial. They become drunk on power. Lose themselves to it. Choose corruption because it feels easier than restraint."
"I won't fail."
"I hope not. Because if you do, you'll become exactly what the Council fears. And exactly what the shadow caller wants."
Her presence fades.
I head back to campus, the ring warm on my finger.
The others have found their artifacts too.
Aria and Lyric discovered a pendant in the chapel ruins. Silver. With protective enchantments.
Nova and Sienna found a book in the archives. Handwritten by my grandmother. Containing Eclipse techniques and knowledge.
"These are incredible," Sienna says, examining all three artifacts. "Your grandmother was preparing for this. For you. She knew another Eclipse would come. She left these to help you survive what she couldn't."
We spend the afternoon studying the artifacts. Learning what they do. How to use them safely.
The ring amplifies and stabilizes my power.
The pendant protects against dark magic and curses.
The book contains training techniques specifically designed for Eclipse wolves.
Together, they form a toolkit. Everything I need to master my abilities without losing control.
"Do we tell faculty about these?" Nova asks.
"Not yet," I say. "If the Council knows I have artifacts that amplify my power, they'll definitely invoke the Binding Protocol. We keep this secret until I've mastered them. Until I can demonstrate perfect control."
Everyone agrees.
These artifacts are our advantage. Our secret.
And we'll use them to ensure my survival.
That evening, I'm studying the book when the goddess speaks again.
"The time is coming when the past and future will collide."
"What does that mean?"
"The shadow caller exists in the past. A corrupted Echo from centuries ago. You exist in the present. A current Eclipse. The collision happens when past corruption meets present power. When he tries to claim you. To turn you into what he became."
"When?"
"After your second trial. After you've proven you can wield power without being consumed. That's when he'll make his real move. When he'll offer you everything you desire in exchange for your allegiance."
"I'll refuse."
"Will you? When he offers to remove the Council's threat? When he promises unlimited power without oversight? When he shows you a path to protect everyone you love without restriction?"
"That's all manipulation. Lies wrapped in tempting packages."
"Perhaps. But temptation works because it offers real desires. Real solutions. Real relief from real problems." Her voice is serious. "Be prepared, Luna. The collision is coming. And you'll have to choose which future you want. The one the goddess offers. Or the one the shadow promises."
She's gone before I can respond.
Leaving me with more questions than answers.
And the heavy knowledge that everything is building toward a choice.
A moment when past and future collide.
When I'll have to decide who I am.
And who I want to become.
