SCARLET’S POV
We all kept our gaze at the door wondering what might be the cause of the chaos coming from outside. The door finally opened and a young man entered. He looked like he had struggled to make his way inside.
“Is that alpha Jake?” I whispered to Lara.
“That can’t be so,” she said. “There is no way he would come in this way, alone”
She was right. There was no way an alpha, especially one as proud as alpha Jake would make an appearance this way without at least three escorts accompanying him.
“Please where is beta Tim?” the young said to Sam.
Sam stared at the young man for some time before finally pointing in the direction of our father. The young man left Sam and walked over to our father.
“Hello sir, I have a message for you from alpha Jake” the young man told my father.
“Alpha Jake” my father mumbled. “And what is the content of the letter?” my father demanded.
“It is for you, sir,” the young man replied.
“And I demand to know under what circumstance he had sent this letter to me” my father ordered.
I held Lara’s hand and smiled at her. Our wish had been granted. Alpha Jake had sent the letter to cancel the marriage. He must have heard a lot about me and had decided not to go on with the marriage anymore.
If truly he is canceling the marriage as a result of all that he heard about me, then I don’t know if to be happy and praise the moon goddess for a prayer answered, or if to feel dejected as a result of being rejected on my wedding day.
But I will feel happy. The life of misery that I would feel for spending the rest of my life with alpha Jake cannot be compared to anything, not even the ridicule of being stood up on my wedding day.
“It will be over soon, Scarlet, you don’t have to feel bad about this” Lara whispered to me.
“Bad?” I asked her. “Come off it, Lara, this is more of a dream come true. What better thing could I have wished for?” I responded.
“Alpha Jake says I should give this letter to you when I see you” the young man repeated himself.
“Are you a daft?” Hedrick screamed at the young man. “What is the purpose of the letter?”
The young man fidgeted at Hedrick’s reaction and he stuttered. “Please I don’t know the content of the letter. But alpha Jake is going to be late due to some issues and he said I should run ahead of him and give this letter to you. he would be here in the next couple of minutes” he replied.
At the revelation from the young man, every other person became relaxed except for Lara and me. Our world came crumbling before us once again.
“Oh no,” I murmured.
“Oh no,” Lara repeated after me.
“Why are things going against me so?” I cried.
“Not today, my luna, your husband will soon be here and you don’t want him to meet you this way. He might think you don’t want him and you know that won’t be a good start for the both of you” Lara consoled me.
“But then, it was going just how we wanted it. What went wrong?” I asked.
She used her handkerchief and wiped my eyes. “Nothing went wrong, my luna. Either way, it is the best for you” she responded.
“Hmm,” I exhaled.
“But this is for the best, you know. And it is unlike the alpha Jake that everyone tries to paint. See, he sent a message explaining his delay and that could only be because he cares enough about you and he does not want you to get worried. He is not married to you yet and he is already looking out for your emotional well-being” Lara said.
She was right. Only a gentleman would send a message to explain his absence most especially when he was getting married to a lady that he barely knows. Alpha Jake is a gentleman after all, and he is not as bad as people say.
“You are the best, Lara. I don’t know what I would have done without you” I responded.
“Everything for you, my luna” she replied.
My father directed the young man to me to deliver the message from alpha Jake to me himself.
“My luna, sorry but the alpha said that he would be here in a few minutes. Please his delay was beyond his control” the young man said.
No one has ever spoken to me in this manner before. Dawn has been the one that everyone addresses with so much politeness. Lara was right, getting married to alpha Jake comes with a great amount of reverence.
“Okay, sir, I will be waiting patiently for him” I replied.
“No, my luna, please call me Landon, I will always remain at your service,” the young man said.
“Very well, Landon, I have received the alpha’s message” I replied.
We all waited for the arrival of alpha Jake. Landon had informed us that he would be here in a few minutes and we hope it doesn’t take longer than that.
I could see the fury in the eyes of every member of my family, if it was left for them, I know that they would not remain here a second longer. They would have all left me to my fate.
Even my mother who was sitting just beside me barely said a word to me and she was conscious of not letting her body touch mine.
However, Dawn was different from the rest. She had a worried look on her face and I wondered if she was wishing to be in my stead right now or if something else was making her this moody.
Nevertheless, I took my face away from Dawn because I believe that whatever she might be up to was not any good for me.
The trumpet sounded, indicating the arrival of alpha Jake. He was finally here just as he had promised.
Everyone else stood up to welcome him except for me. I am the bride and he should be here to welcome me instead.
Before he entered the hall, my father walked up to me and took me to a room to wait for alpha Jake to enter first, and then he would bring me out. Lara came along with us.
We remained in the room until an omega came to call us and then my father held my hands and led me out to the hall.
As soon as we entered, I saw him, my husband. He was standing at the podium but I could not see his face very clearly as he had a very light veil over it. his veil was lighter than the one over my face.
Lara noticed that I was worried about the veil that was over his face and she said to me. “It is the ceremony of the noble, Scarlet, and he would not be taking that veil off here. Maybe you should wait to see his face better after now”
“Really?” I mumbled.
Lara always accompanied her mother to such glamorous events and she understood the way of the noble better than I do. As for me, this would be the first time that I would be seeing a man with a veil over his face.
My father led me down the aisle, while Lara carried my veil behind.
Today, I am elated. I have this strong feeling that things are going just how there should and that finally, my life was beginning to take shape.
When we got to the podium, I tried to steal a look at alpha Jake, but he only took a glance at me and quickly removed his face. All through the rest of the ceremony, alpha Jake did not try to look my way again and this got me a little worried.
“Now that you have accepted her as yours, alpha Jake, you are free to take away her veil," the officiating minister said at the end of the ceremony.
Alpha Jake reached out to me, but I withdrew a little. I was shy that he would be looking at me for the first time and I was wondering what his reaction would be.
Seeing how I had reacted, alpha Jake took hold of the left side of my shoulder to keep me from moving and use his right hand to open my veil but I was already facing the other side.
Immediately he lifted my veil, everyone stood up and clapped. It was the end of the ceremony and alpha Jake took my hands and led me through the little crowd and out of the hall.
When we arrived outside, alpha Jake left my side and went to speak with my father. This afforded me an opportunity to speak to Lara.
“And what about Rich?” I asked.
“He would join us as soon as we are about to leave. He is waiting already” she replied.
Rich was going to come with me to my new home, but we have to be discreet with it as I don’t want to bring it to the attention of any member of my family.
“Hey, Scarlet”
I turned and saw Dawn. “Dawn” I greeted.
“Congratulations on your marriage. I wish you all the best” she said.
“Thanks” I mumbled.
I was not sure if her greeting was really coming from her heart or if she had only come here to make jest of me.
“Please I am sorry for everything, sister. I wish I had known better. I hope your new home is nothing like what you have here with your own family” she said.
This was strange to me so I remained quiet. I was not used to having this sort of conversation with her.
Seeing that I was not responding, she went on. “I wished you had a choice in your marriage and I am sorry I blamed you for Gina. And please always see us as a family”
As she was saying this, alpha Jake returned and stood by my side.
“Thanks so much, Dawn” I smiled.
I would not want him to get any hint on what Dawn was talking about. I would not want him to hear that I would not have agreed to marry him if I was given a chance to make my choice.
“Let’s go,” alpha Jake said to me.
Our carriage has arrived by this time and they were waiting for us.
“I have to leave with my husband, sister Dawn. I hope to see more of you” I said and waved at her.
I entered the carriage with the help of one of the guards and I signaled at Lara. We have agreed that she would bring Rich along with her in the carriage that would be bringing her.
