203: Hurry (Lucky's POV)
The storm brewing in the sky above the woods seemed to be getting worse. Wind was now whipping through the trees and swirling through the clouds overhead. The reddish tint that had been present was now more vibrant, as if the sky itself had been stained with deep maroon blood. Sure enough, if I squinted nice and long, Finn was floating in the sky. Right in the eye of the crackling storm.
Occasional lightning bolts and claps of thunder shook the earth around us. Wyatt and I both had our necks craned in order to see him. He was in the midst of everything, somehow levitating while looking like he was standing on air.
Aksel cleared his throat, “What the hell are we supposed to do about that?”
I blinked up at the sky, mouth slightly agape. With a small shake of my head, I looked down at Cillian and Aksel. “I have no idea.”
“Lucky and I will go see Molpe,” Wyatt nearly shouted to be heard over the storm noise, “One of you needs to keep an eye on him and report to us if it continues escalating. The other needs to hit the books and find something on vampire lore that might explain this.”
“I’ll pull Eros from training.” Cillian gave a curt nod, stoically heading toward the packhouse.
Our new Beta blinked after him. “I guess I’ll keep watch. On a Vampire King,” his eyes flickered up to the sky, “Who’s floating in a storm.”
“We appreciate your help. Once we talk with Molpe, I’ll reach out so that we can introduce you to the pack,” I gave him a pat on his shoulder with a small smile, “Thanks, Aksel.”
Wyatt’s eyes were locked onto my hand, which was still resting on Aksel’s shoulder. His eyes lashed gold, his lips turning up into a snarl. I dropped my hand. There was a moment of silence before Wyatt extended his hand to me. I took it, letting him lead me back toward the new pack hospital. Not another word was shared between us.
The hospital lights were brighter than the sun in the sky as we entered the space. I tugged on Wyatt’s hand and whispered, “We should talk to Vincar, too. He’s been around long enough to know something.”
“Molpe first.” he made his way down the short hall, not even bothering to knock on the door before stepping in. Before either of us even had a chance to look at Molpe, Wyatt was already talking, “We found Finn.”
She pulled herself into a sitting position. “Where?”
“In the sky,” I said, and I swear her ebony skin paled further. “Does that mean anything to you?”
Her blanket was tossed off of her within a moment. Molpe’s fingers worked at her IV and her BP cuff, yanking them off of her. She winced slightly as the adhesive ripped her skin. Wyatt caught her when she stumbled forward, eyes wide. I fought the growl that formed in my chest as he rubbed his hands down her arms, looking down at her tenderly.
“Take me to him,” she whispered, trying to pull away from my mate and head out of the room. “I need to see.”
“What does it mean?” Wyatt held her firmly in place.
She simply glanced up at him and shook her head. Wyatt’s grip loosened; he motioned to the door. I furrowed my eyebrows. That was when I heard it. A light hum. Magickal. Ethereal. Molpe and Wyatt’s gazes were locked, her eyes slightly milky.
Wyatt, I snapped at him down our bond. She’s using her Siren song.
I can’t seem to do anything about it, he responded, starting to lead her out of the room.
She hadn’t taught me how to combat this yet. So I did the only thing I could think of. I stuck my foot out in front of her as the two of them began walking past me. She flailed, but couldn’t catch herself. A loud smacking noise echoed through the room as her entire body and face connected with the hard floor beneath her. Her yelp was soft, but somehow seemed to vibrate through the air.
Wyatt cried out, clutching his hands over his ears. The vibrations continued long after her yelp was over, sending shivers down my spine. My ears didn’t seem to be affected like Wyatt's, and something told me I had my small amount of Siren blood to thank for that.
The door burst open, and Vincar rushed in. As his eyes scoured the scene unfolding in front of him, he tried to say something. The strange vibrations drowned out his voice. With an eye roll, he crouched down beside Molpe, who was staring vacantly at a wall.
As soon as he touched her, the vibrations ceased. She blinked, slowly sitting up. Vincar inspected her face, where a deep bruise was forming on her cheekbone. He then turned his attention back to Wyatt and me, “What the hell is going on here?”
It was Molpe who rushed out, “He’s in the sky, Vincar. He’s in the sky.”
Vincar’s head snapped up. His milky eyes met mine and then moved quickly to Wyatt’s. He began pulling Molpe up to her feet forcefully, heading straight for the door. “We must hurry, then.”
“Vincar, what is happening?” Wyatt and I scrambled after the pair, who were practically running back to the entrance— even with Molpe limping alongside him.
The healer simply looked over his shoulder at Wyatt, expression grim. “We must hurry, Alpha King. Please hurry.”
