Chapter 12 The Realm Beyond
Lina's POV
“Can somebody say something?” Noel blurted angrily, his patience gradually wearing out.
Everybody still remained silent, nobody said a word.
My lips slowly parted, I was just about to explain things out to Noel when he angrily slammed his hand on the table.
“Wow, so you all are into this supernatural shit? Do you all know the implications of what you're calling upon yourself?” He asked rhetorically, his voice was firm and coarse.
I took a slow, deep breath then I said calmly, “Noel, you're getting it wrong….” I wasn't done talking when Noel suddenly rushed to the table and began to collect all the files he brought in earlier, then he turned to look at everyone one last time before stumbling out of the room angrily.
I wasn't surprised. I knew this wouldn't be easy. So I simply settled down with a heavy sigh, trying hard to mask my fears—the fear of losing the team I managed to build.
My eyes instantly darted around the room, stealing a quick gaze at everyone.
I first looked at Kate who's still hiding behind a wall.
“You wanna leave too?” I asked coldly, staring into Kate's terrified eyes.
She didn't say a word, she only shifted away from where she was hiding. Then she hesitated for a minute before she went for her bag and slowly grabbed it tight into her chest, her hands still trembling.
“I'm sorry.” She murmured, hastily walking out of the room as if she was being pursued.
My eyes followed her movement as she walked out of the room.
Without making an attempt to stop her. My eyes darted back to the faces left in the room.
Turning to Father Eron, I asked him the same question; “Do you want to leave too?” My voice was calm but determined.
“The Lord doesn't run from battles, he approaches it.” Father Eron muttered and with a gentle nod, he assured me that he was in for this.
Before I could turn to the Revealer, to ask her the same question, if she was in or out, she suddenly interrupted me saying;
“I've no idea what you saw when you were unconscious, but I'd appreciate it next time, if you'd let me come with you.” She suddenly blurted, her voice was determined and real.
I smiled and placed my hands on the floor to support myself while I stood back up on my feet.
The Revealer helped me up while I staggered a bit; “You weren't breathing for seven minutes, Lina. Next time please, make sure you invite me over, I love long journeys like that.” She murmured with a gentle smile playing across her lips.
I didn't say a word, I only managed to smile, but deep down the fear of what I witnessed still lingered within me.
“They bowed to you.” The Revealer suddenly muttered.
“What did you just say?” I asked, my voice barely above a whisper.
“They bowed to you, didn't they?” She murmured rhetorically, her voice was weirdly calm.
“How did you know that?” I blurted in shock, surprised how she knew about what I saw on the other side of the world.
The Revealer hesitated for a while, she only chuckled while she helped me to sit down on the chair.
“I'm a Revealer, Lina. How don't you know this already?” she said softly, her smile, unsettlingly creepy.
“No,” I whispered faintly, my voice creeping into my emotions. “You weren't there. That place, those people, you couldn't have seen them all.” My voice was beginning to shake the moment I began to recall the images of the crawlers in my head, the way they bowed at me multiple times, and the strange words they kept chanting like they were praising a long lost God who'd just returned.
The Revealer chuckled softly; “I mustn't be there. If the ancestors want it to be revealed, then it shall be revealed.” She replied with so much certainty in her voice.
Shocked at her response, I stared at her continuously, without shifting my gaze for a second: “Are you really a Revealer?” I asked with a raised eyebrow.
Her gaze suddenly softened, almost pitiful, as if she was about to speak about her losses.
“Yes, but not like I was before,” she paused for a second, smiled at nobody in particular, then she continued: “You see, the power of a true Revealer is passed down through blood. The moment I gave birth to my daughter, the power left me, it shifted to her.” She paused again, her eyes were distant, as if she was trying to remember something that might have hurt her before.
“I'm only left with the pieces of the power of a Revealer. I'm the fragments, the shackles, the echoes, whatever you choose to call it. But with my daughter by my side, I still feel whole.” Her voice began to crack.
“I only see things when the ancestors want me to see. I'm no longer the true Revealer, I'm just the flicker.” she hinted.
My eyes immediately widened up, suddenly feeling sorry for her missing daughter.
“Who are those people, the crawlers?” I asked, sounding almost too fast. “Why did they bow at me and why were they chanting the word ‘Mireya’?” I asked.
She sighed, “I don't know about that. I've no idea who they are.” She responded disappointedly.
“Mireya is the title of a god which means ‘’The Flame Who Walks' it's a name forgotten in human tongues.” Father Eron suddenly chipped in, his eyes were still closed as if he was still in prayers.
My eyes slowly swept over him as he spoke.
The Revealer slowly sat across me: “You see, titles like that are not just names. They are powers to be awakened.” She murmured.
“Awakened?” I whispered, confused.
“Yes, you may not understand what's happening to you now. But something right inside of you is fighting to be lit.” She hinted.
“But I never choose any of this.” I snapped.
“No one ever chooses the fire, but it always finds its keeper.” The Revealer added, her eyes were glowing with fire that speaks power.
I was gradually becoming scared.
I don't know what exactly is happening to me and I feel lost for some reasons.
For a moment, I thought of just walking away just like the way Kate and Noel walked away.
But then, if I do, will I ever be able to bring back the missing kids?
What about the promises I made to their parents? Telling them that I'll bring back their children.
I just want to find the missing children, so why is all of these happening to me?
I lowered my head on the table, hitting my forehead softly on the edge of the desk, as if I was trying to fight a demon—a demon buried within me.
“You'll be fine, Lina.” Father Eron whispered to me.
Those were just words, I'm not seeing any signs that things were going to get any better.
I just lost two of my important team members, what the hell do you have to tell me?
