Chapter 133
Chapter 133
Samara's POV
“Samara?” Lillian rushed to my side the second she spotted me, “they will not tell me anything, are you okay?”
I took a second to look at her. She looked genuinely worried for me but what if all of that was just a facade? I had to get out of my head. I could not allow my father's voice to ruin the friend I had in this world.
I ran into her arms and hugged her.
“Thank you for choosing to stay with me.”
“I… You're welcome?” she pulled away from my hug to look at my face.
“Are you sure you're alright? And what's this business about your father?”
I took her hand and led her inside the cove we had been assigned here. Inside it was a decent living space—a large hearth that kept the place warm and a rug beneath our feet. There was a large queen-sized bed in the corner and small round mats on the floor in front of the hearth for sitting.
“He's some Lord here,” I shrugged. I had not even caught his name and sincerely I did not care. I was filled with too much rage to care.
“I want to leave this place,” I said suddenly, not giving her time to respond to what I had formerly said.
“Should we try to leave tonight?” she asked me, then worriedly, she asked, “you are sure you don't want to know anything about this man who claims to be your father?”
She must have noticed that the world here was rather odd. It felt almost like we had transcended to a different world.
I shrugged.
“Does this place not terrify you?” I asked her.
She shrugged, her eyes glistening a little, “I've always been fascinated by the world outside werewolf packs…”
“So you would not mind staying here longer?” I asked her.
She gathered my hands into hers.
“If this is what you want…” she was looking into my eyes with sincerity, “whatever you decide, I'll be by your side.”
“And if we can never leave this place?” I asked her.
She shrugged, “we'll figure a way out of here together… I promise.”
I was inclined to believe her. She had helped me this far after all.
Lillian stood up from where she sat beside me and went to get the bag she had packed in a haste for us to leave. When she returned, she had the diary of the dragon wolf—the same one I had seen in my room.
I stared at it with shock for a few startling seconds. My father’s voice echoed in my head, You are too soft. Can you not see that your friend is staying with you to use you? How did she have it?
“You’re shocked, right?” she laughed lightly, “I had it stolen from Aeron while everyone was in the council room. He must be losing his mind looking for it.”
“I… I…” I did not know what to say or how to react.
“You stole it today?” I asked to confirm.
“Yes.”
“How?”
She rolled her eyes.
“It was not hard really,” she replied, “I walked into Aeron’s private study and it was there.”
So how the hell had it gotten to my room yesterday?
But when I looked into Lillian’s eyes, I could not see her innocence. The only explanation that I could give for this was that someone was playing a really bizarre joke on me. But it did not matter anymore because I was no longer in that palace.
I took the book from Lillian, trying not to look affected by it in any way.
“Did you bring only this one?” I asked her.
“Yes,” came her response, “you seemed to be rather taken with it.”
That, I could not deny.
“It’s just an interesting read,” I tried to play it cool but she looked at me like she was expecting something more from me.
“What?” I asked her.
“Nothing.”
“If you have something to say…”
“Fine,” she sat up straighter, “what are the creatures here?”
“I mean… they are clearly not human and I could not pick up a werewolf scent,” she continued.
My heart beat a little faster.
“I don’t know myself,” I replied.
If she knew that I had dragon blood, would she still wish to be friends with me?
“Your father didn’t tell you?” she prodded curiously, “I mean that would mean that you’re also not human if…”
“I don’t know, Lillian,” I said to her, “I just… I’m really tired,” I dropped the book beside me like I was not interested in its content at all, “I think we should go to bed now.”
Lillian was about to say something when we heard some noise outside. We both went out of the cove to check and it was the man who had led my kidnapping here that stood at my door.
“Princess,” he bowed his head slightly at me, “I will escort you to your room.”
“I’m fine staying with my friend,” I said stubbornly.
“It is the Lord’s orders,” he replied firmly and he looked ready to drag me away.
“Then she must follow…”
“I’m afraid your friend must remain here,” he cut me off.
“I will see you in the morning,” she looked a bit too happy to see me gone, “just wait a second…”
She disappeared into the cove and returned with something wrapped in a bundle. I knew she had wrapped the book inside.
“I am Picah,” he said as he led me to wherever it was that he was taking me, “I am one of the servants of your father.”
“Servant?”
“Everyone is a servant here,” he said, “we are all humbled to serve…”
“Did my father ask you to tell me this?” I asked snidely.
“I apologise if I have offended you, princess.”
That word again, princess.
Somehow, I did not want to hear it. It filled me with such a great ick.
He stopped when he got to the front of a cove that looked almost similar to the one I had seen my father in.
“This will be your personal cove,” he said to me, “I will send a maid to you in the morning in case you need any help.”
He bowed his head and walked away.
I did not know what to expect when I opened the door but it was clearly not the amount of sparkle that almost immediately blinded my eyes. From the roof of the cave dangled chandeliers that were an array of beautiful blood diamonds. The entire roof was plastered in an array of red and white diamonds. The tables, the chairs, the dresser, all of it was coated in varying stones that glistened brightly at me.
So, I was going to have a fanciful prison in a world that I knew nothing about. And in this world, I was lost because I did not have my wolf by my side.
I hurriedly unwrapped the bundle Lillian had placed in my hand. The last time I had the diary, I had gone through it in quite a hurry. Perhaps there was something I missed the first time. But when I opened the first page, I knew at once it was a different diary.
It began with…
You must have read my first diary and if you've come this far you seek answers. Answers which I cannot provide because I have been reduced to a mere man while my dragon wolf lies in captivity.
I cannot tell you how they did it- they culled my wolf from my body but they did and now I am empty. They will tame my wolf and use it to rain destruction. My fate is bleak.
I flipped through several pages and they were all intangible scribblings from someone who was clearly losing their mind.
But no one knew I was the dragon wolf! It was not possible for them to separate me from Nyla. And I had not been some experiment created in a lab. I was born of my mother…
Then around the middle of the book, he said…
They cannot tame my wolf so now they seek to tame me so I can tame my wolf for them. Never again will I be used. No one shall tame my mind.
I shut the book, having found nothing of use within it. I tried to call for Nyla time and time again but nothing. I eventually gave up and tried to sleep but I heard a knock on my door. When I opened it, my father stepped in without an invitation.
“Do you like your room?” He kept walking further into the room without my permission.
What the hell?
“What do you want?” I snapped at him.
He walked towards me and placed his heavy hands on my shoulder.
“I forgot to mention earlier, Samara,” he said looking into my eyes, “we start training tomorrow at dawn.”
I took a step back, not wishing for his touch at all.
“I am not training or doing anything,” I spat at him.
“You do not have a choice,” he replied coldly, “if you want to regain your freedom, you must convince me that you are capable of fighting so you never lose your freedom again.”
I remained quiet.
“And your inner dragon…” he said the words I did not want him to, “...there is no use pretending with me. I have a dragon too.”
Only that I did not have a dragon. I had a dragon wolf within me. Did he know that? Or was he fishing right now?
“I have no dragon,” I said to him, “please leave… I need to sleep.”
His gaze shifted from me to my bed and he flared up at once, flames leaving his mouth and ears.
“Did you bring that filth in here?” he was pointing at the book on my bed and trembling. I had completely forgotten that it was there.
I hurriedly tried to keep it away but he snatched it from me and threw it into the hearth where I watched my only hope to figure things out with Nyla disintegrate in the flames.
