Chapter 135 My Love Is Enough
Mia's POV
I froze the moment I saw him. Liam was standing just outside our apartment building, leaning against his car like he had been there for a while, as if he wasn't planning to leave until he saw me. My heart immediately started racing, and I hated how my body reacted to him so easily... like nothing had changed.
"What are you doing here, Liam?" I asked, trying to keep my voice calm even though I wasn't prepared to see him.
He straightened the moment he heard me, his eyes locking onto mine with an intensity that made it hard to breathe.
"Mia," he said, stepping closer. "I know you still have feelings for me. I don't believe you would just break up with me without a reason." His voice softened, but there was frustration underneath it. "Just tell me the truth... why were you summoned to the principal's office?"
For a second, I couldn't speak. I just stared at him, trying to find the right words... or maybe the right lie.
"Nothing," I said finally, forcing my voice to sound casual. I avoided his eyes because I knew he would see right through me if I didn't. "It had nothing to do with us. The principal just asked if my mom could attend my graduation since I'm part of the top ten."
I hated how easily the lie came out of my mouth. There was a brief silence between us, and then he smiled... even though I could still see the tension in his face.
"Everyone already knows you're going to be our future class valedictorian, Mia," he said.
I shook my head quickly, trying to brush it off before he could say anything more that might weaken my resolve.
"Stop being so humble, Liam," I replied, forcing a small smile. "You're my greatest rival, and you know that."
He smirked at that, but there was something softer in his eyes... something that made my chest ache.
"I didn't really want to be part of the top ten," he admitted quietly. "I just wanted you to be proud of me." He paused, then added, "I wanted to impress you, Mia."
I felt my cheeks heat up instantly, and I hated it. I hated how one sentence from him could still make me feel like this... like I was the same girl who fell for him without hesitation.
So I looked away. Because if I didn't, I might forget why I ended things in the first place.
"Mia, I didn't agree to break up with you," Liam said, his voice firm, almost stubborn. "So that means I'm still your boyfriend."
I swallowed, forcing myself to stay strong even though my chest was already tightening.
"Liam... please," I begged softly, shaking my head. "Don't make this harder than it already is."
But he didn't back down..
"I'll agree to break up with you," he said, his eyes searching mine, desperate and determined at the same time, "if you tell me the truth. Just be honest with me, Mia. I'll try to understand. I promise."
I looked away for a second, gathering what little strength I had left.
"I already told you," I said, my voice quieter now but still firm. "I'm tired of this, Liam. I don't want to be your girlfriend anymore." I added.
For a moment, silence stretched between us. Then he spoke again, softer this time.
"I'm sorry if I put you in this situation," he said. "But I'm willing to spend my whole life with you."
A small, almost broken laugh escaped my lips.
"You don't even know what you're saying," I whispered, looking at him. "Do you really think you can live a life like mine? You grew up surrounded by everything. Comfort, money, security. You won't last in my world, Liam."
Instead of getting offended, he stepped closer.
"I know it's going to be hard," he admitted. "But as long as we're together, I'm willing to leave everything behind for you. I can work. I'll support you. We'll figure it out, Mia. We'll survive." His voice cracked as he reached for me. "Please... just trust me. Don't break up with me."
My heart clenched painfully.
"Liam, you have no idea what you're asking for," I said, my voice trembling now. "You don't know how hard it is to survive every single day. To worry about things you never had to think about before."
"You survived," he said immediately. "So I will too. I'll work hard, Mia. You can continue your studies, and I'll be there for you. We'll build our own life... our own family." His eyes softened as he looked at me. "I'll do anything just to be with you."
His words made something inside me crack. For a second, I wanted to believe him. I wanted to hold onto that dream he was offering so badly it hurt, but I couldn't.
"Liam, it's not that simple," I said, shaking my head. "You don't know what it feels like to live without money... without a car... without the kind of life you've always known. Sooner or later, you'll regret it. You'll end up hating me."
His expression hardened slightly, but his eyes never left mine.
"Is that what you think of me?" he asked quietly. "That I'm that weak?"
He stepped even closer, closing the distance between us.
"My love for you is enough, Mia," he said with quiet certainty. "I'll fight for us. For our future. No matter what it takes."
My breath caught as he continued.
"And I will never hate you for choosing you," he added. "You are the only right thing in my life right now. And I love you so much." His voice dropped into a whisper. "Losing you... that's the one thing I can't accept."
I shook my head, even though my heart was already betraying me.
"Liam... we can't," I said, my voice barely steady anymore. "I don't want you throwing your life away because of me."
I took a step back.
"Don't abandon everything for me," I added softly. "I'm not worth it."
But he didn't stop, not until my back hit the wall and I had nowhere left to go. He stood in front of me, close enough that I could feel his warmth, his breath, his presence overwhelming everything I was trying to hold together.
"Love will never be enough in this kind of world," I whispered, even though it felt like I was trying to convince myself more than him.
"Trust me," he said, his voice breaking now. "It will be enough. Just... don't leave me."
My heart was falling apart.
"Wait until graduation," he continued, almost pleading now. "After that, we'll be together. We'll leave all of this behind. We'll build our own future, Mia. I don't care about the money... or my father's company. I just want you."
I opened my mouth to speak. But before I could say anything, he closed the distance between us. His lips crashed into mine. And just like that... the last of my resolve shattered.
For a brief moment, I tried to resist. I tried to hold on to every reason I had for walking away, to every warning that told me this was wrong.
But I couldn't because no matter how hard I tried to push him away, my heart refused to let him go. I was still in love with him, deeply and hopelessly.
And in that moment, nothing else seemed to matter.
Not the fear or consequences. Not even his father's warning. So I gave in. I kissed him back, letting everything else fade away.
