NICO'S VISIT

Mia moved home quietly, her eyes were already getting blur and itchy as she dragged her already tired self around the street she was living in. She was glad that she was almost home because the day had been so tiring for her.

“Thank goodness, I'm almost home. I'm so tired” she mumbled with much breathless while moving on the road. All she needed now was a cold shower, dinner, and then a nice long rest.

She entered the building and then moved through the hallway until she stood at the door of Jenny's house. The house was so quiet, and she could tell they had all gone to sleep.

Luckily, she was given a spare key just so if she came home too late, she wouldn't be stranded outside the door.

“Mmmmm,” her eyes were trying to stay opened as her hands danced around the keyhole, trying to insert the key.

She did so many chores. Also cleaned everything in Eunice's room. And while doing some arrangements, she was disappointed to notice truly, Eunice's mother, wasn't helpful in the girl's life.

“Yes.” she spoke in a sleepy mutter, pushing the door open and strolling inside the living room, which was totally dark. It was already light out, so it was possible that Gideon and Jenny must have been sleeping.

“Home sweet home,” she yawned, allowing her bag to drop on the chair, not caring the amount of noise it made. She was exhausted, and her eyes needed rest at the earliest.

“Haaaa,” she sat on the cushion and that way, she drifted into deep sleep.

“Who's there?” A small voice descended the stairs with a touch light as the only source of light peeking through the dark room.

“Who's there?!” His hardened tone caused his sister to twirl in her sitting position, making her lay more uncomfortable than before.

“Sis?” He called, his brow furrowed because he didn't understand why she would be coming home that late.

“You can't sleep that way.” He commented in a very low tone and moved closer, gently dropping the wrench he was holding on the ground. He let out a sigh and a sweet smile spread across his lips.

His sister had always been there for him, and it was because of this, she was trying her best to take care of him, doing even jobs that were exhausting.

“Thank you so much, sis,” he whispered, flashing the torchlight on her lower body as he resisted the urge to laugh.

She was still putting on her shoes, and it was funny because most times, she yelled at him not to wear shoes around the house.

“Let's take this off,” he placed the touch on the nearby table to give lighting to the living room as he removed her shoes.

He gazed at her with a smile and dropped the shoes close to her before he laid her head on the arm-rest, taking her legs and placing them on the chair, so she could be in a proper lying position. She made a small sound like she was speaking to someone, but after a while, she adjusted herself, allowing her chest to move according to her calm heartbeat.

“Goodnight sis.” He muttered, staring at her for a little while before going back upstairs. She was the best thing he could ever wish for.

He came back with a bedsheet to cover her up, so she won't catch a cold. And after that, he sneaked away so as not to disturb her sleep. For she not to have opened her eyes when he was around only meant, she was exhausted. Every so often, he wished there was a way he could assist her.

In the morning, the sun peeked through the window, but it didn't bother Mia that much because the curtains were closed. However, it didn't stop the rays of sun from penetrating, warming up her skin.

“Mmmmm…” she squeezed her face because she was being disturbed by the brightness of the sunlight and when she opened her eyes, she jumped up from the chair with widened eyes.

“It can't be!” She screamed. She could tell the time without looking at the clock.

“Finally, sleeping beauty is awake,” Jenny's voice was heard, causing Mia to feel weird.

She laughed in an awkward manner, stretching in the process as she yawned. She had thought she had gone to the bathroom last night, only to find herself in the living room with her clothes still on.

“Good morning.” Mia greeted Jenny, who returned the greeting with a smile.

“Good morning sis.” Gideon was also at the dining table, having breakfast with Jenny, who was also dressed up.

“You're going out?” Mia asked.

“Yeah girl, and you should be getting your bath, you're going to be late!” Jenny exclaimed, placing down her sandwich and sipping the cup of tea that she held.

“Yeah, yeah, that's right, shit. What time is it?” She asked to be sure if the time, she was guessing, would correspond.

“Seven o'clock, sleeping beauty.” Jenny teased. She then turned to, “Are you ready now?” She was asking Gideon if he was ready to leave the house with her.

“Yup.” He answered cheerfully.

Jenny carried all they ate with to the kitchen, “I will clean you up later.” She told the plates and Gideon, who stood by the door, burst into laughter.

“Sis, Jenny is talking to the plate again.” He reported while running for his life. Just as expected, Jenny came after him.

They both ran outside and waved goodbye to her. Even at a distance, Mia could still hear their laughter. Jenny wasn't going to let Gideon go free for reporting her. Haha.

Once they had walked out the door, Mia shook her head while laughing before rushing upstairs to get a shower.

She didn't waste time in the bathroom and even when there was still lots of time, she wanted to be a very early staff member, known for good conduct. She was still trying to prove to Mark that she is capable of her job.

After putting on her selected clothes, she rushed down the stairs and began to make herself a cup of tea. Jenny, her good friend, was able to prepare extra sandwiches for her, so she could have a decent breakfast and not skip any meal. According to her, she was already slim enough and didn't need any more bones.

She took a seat and hurriedly began to enjoy the sandwich when suddenly she heard a knock on the door and stopped.

“Who could that be?” She thought to herself. If it were Jenny, she wouldn't knock on the door because it was her house. Besides, the door was open. She could walk in and out, anytime she wanted.

After being lost in thoughts for about a minute, she placed down the sandwich and rushed to the door.

“Nico?” She called with widened eyes. She had not expected him to be here, not even in the least bit.

“What are you doing here?” She pushed her lips to the side and darted her eyes away from where he was.

“That question doesn't seem friendly, do you want me to leave?” Nico answered.

“No!” She exclaimed, but immediately composed herself. She didn't know that he would be here so early in the morning, knowing that she had lots of work to do.

“Aren't you going to let me in?” He had a sweet smile on his lips and subconsciously, she couldn't help smiling too because of how cute he was.

“I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to be so rude, I was eating and...”

“Even better,” he commented, waiting for her to let him in, “I get to watch you eat,” he spoke again and this time, Mia blushed.

“I was already done, I just wanted to pick up my bag for work.” she responded, giving him space to come in.

“Great too. That was the reason I came, though. Let me drop you off!”
