Just outside Eunice's door, Mark stood and listened to all the conversation they were having. He was surprised as to the amount of knowledge his daughter had concerning the issue on ground about him and her mother, but was relieved she didn't know about the divorce.
Earlier, Mark had just returned from work and after dropping his briefcase with his butler, he decided to go check up on his daughter. He ascended the stairs and when he came to his daughter's door, he grabbed the door knob but stopped when he heard two voices talking. He was even more tempted to open the door when he heard his daughter sobbing.
One was Mia's voice and one was the voice of his daughter, and they seemed to be in a deep conversation.
“I wonder what they are talking about?” Mark asked himself as he placed his ear on the door to hear what they were saying properly. He wasn't someone who normally eavesdrop on someone's conversation, but anything concerning his daughter was important.
He was surprised and sad about how his daughter portrayed Emmie to the new nanny, but as they said, the truth was bitter.
His ex-wife had caused him so much pain, and the only way he could get over it was through work and business meetings.
His daughter was right, she knew him very well and could tell a story about him if she was asked.
He was sorry for the poor girl, there was nothing he could do but hide the fact that her mother didn't always love her, and she ran away just to be with another man. It was a shameful thing to talk about.
That very day still recalled in his memory and he couldn't stop seeing his wife on top of that man who she chose over him.
He sighed, his daughter was right. Her mother wasn't really a mother figure for her and for the first time, he regretted ever having anything to do with her in my life. But was glad to have a daughter.
If he didn't have a supportive friend and brother alongside his sweet little angel whom he was living for, he would have crashed beyond limits.
What Mark didn't understand was how Mia was able to quickly win his daughter's heart and her love. She was a very reserved who often ask questions to those she trusts and for her to open up to Mia, it meant she trusted her pretty much.
Mark was happy that he met with this Mia girl for his daughter's nanny because from the words she spoke, she was really able to take care of children.
“Hello princess.” Mark yelled as he opened the door, pretending like he didn't just hear the conversation between the both of them.
“Daddy.” Eunice quickly cleaned her eyes and pretended to smile as well. She didn't want her dad to worry about her.
“Don't you want to hug me?” Mark moved closer to his daughter, who instantly ran towards him and embraced him in a tight hug.
She was the only thing he had in this world that brought him the peace of mind he needed.
“How was school today?” He kissed her forehead as he asked.
“Fine.” She was feeling nervous. She hoped her dad didn't hear her conversation with her nanny.
“Have you had lunch?” He asked.
“Yes, vegetable noddles.” She managed to smile, and her father cupped her cheek in his palms as he smiled back as well.
“You came home early again.” Eunice had observed her dad but ever since he employed Mia, he was unusually early.
“Yes, I wanted to come see my baby.” He carried her in his arms and twirled around with her.
The truth was that he came home early to watch how Mia was treating his daughter and how Eunice felt about the nanny, but it seemed they were both good and were getting along fine.
While he was talking to his daughter, Mia just stood by the side and didn't utter a word.
“You love your new many, right?” He changed the topic and his daughter nodded.
“She's the best dad, thank you.” She moved closer and her hand rounded his torso.
Despite his daughter's hug, Mark's eyes diverted towards Mia, who seemed to be looking away from the very moment he walked into the room.
He didn't understand if she was shy or afraid of him, but one thing was sure and that was the fact that she was beautiful. Her humble and shy nature made her even more appealing to Mark, and the fact that his daughter was free with her made him smile.
This wasn't supposed to happen, but whenever he sees Mia, he would recall that night and the virgin girl he had hurt. He wasn't supposed to like it, but it felt like Mia was that girl. Her curves and voice sounded familiar to him. But if it was the girl, how was it possible for her to track his house.
“Common Mark, get it together with yourself. Mia is just a nanny and no matter how her voice sounds like the girl from that night.” Her voice did things to him that he couldn't imagine.
She was shy yet, so smart and the way she was hardworking was something he admired. From the look of things, she was responsible and her small stature made her look cute.
He noticed she had been running away from him and trying to avoid him even when he hadn't done anything wrong to her, or maybe it could be because of how he talked to her.
“Daddy, can miss Mia stay with us forever, I like her a lot.” His daughter made him pull his gaze away from Mia.
“Why don't you ask her yourself? I'm sure she will.” He cleared his throat and Mia gazed at the little girl who was close to her dad.
“Can you stay forever?” Her eyes twinkled like this stars as she waited for a reply from Mia, who seemed to be in thought about the whole matter.
She had noticed the boss gaze on her earlier and was trying her best to not make eye contact with the man. She knew that eyes were the windows to the soul, and her soul right now was in panick.
Her heart thudded loudly in her chest as she prayed for him to leave soon.
“Maybe.” Mia answered in a low tone.
“No, dad, asked her to stay here forever with us.” Eunice tugged on her father's clothes.
“Of course…” Following his daughter's request, “Mia, please stay with us forever.” Mark said, as he turned to the nanny who was still hiding her face, and the way she did it made Mark smile inside of him.
“Mia.” He called her name in his head as he continued to gaze at her. She looked so fragile and yet seemed strong. Funny enough, she was able to win his daughter's heart and was leoly making way into his own.
