Chapter 112 My Boyfriend Is Coming to Pick Me Up

Catherine shook her head, "No need, my boyfriend's coming to get me."

"That's so sweet, especially on a rainy day. But I didn't know you had a boyfriend." The other person looked intrigued, "What's he like? Is he handsome?"

Catherine thought about Manuel, "I guess you could say that."

The kind of guy who could turn heads, but his personality? Not so great.

"What do you mean by 'I guess'? Is he actually ugly?" Her colleague teased, "If he's not good-looking, I can set you up with someone. It'd be a shame if someone as pretty as Miss Powell ended up with a not-so-good-looking guy."

Catherine was at a loss for words. 'Why is everyone suddenly trying to set me up? Do I look that desperate?'

"He actually looks pretty good," Catherine said, trying to end the conversation.

But her colleague wasn't convinced. "If you don't want me to set you up, just say so. But I'm really curious about what your boyfriend looks like. How did he manage to snag someone so pretty like you?"

"I..." Catherine started to say.

Just then, her phone rang. It was Manuel asking how she was doing.

Catherine exchanged a few words, glanced at the sky, and said, "It's raining here, how about there?"

"It's not raining here, but I can come get you."

Catherine was surprised, "Isn't it far from where you are? Why come all the way?"

"It's fine, I just got back from a business trip. Just wait there."

With a free ride, Catherine decided to wait.

She looked at her colleague, who had been complaining about the rain and the cost of getting home.

Since this colleague usually looked out for her, Catherine offered, "My boyfriend's coming, you can ride with us."

"Can I?" The other person seemed flattered.

But she was also curious about Catherine's boyfriend, so she said, "That would be great, I'll take you up on that."

A little while later, Manuel called, "I'm downstairs, you can come down now."

Catherine hung up, "My boyfriend's here, let's go."

They went to the first floor and saw Manuel's luxury car outside.

Even in the rain, the golden paint was eye-catching.

Just by the logo, one could tell the car was expensive.

Catherine's colleague was stunned, "That... that car..."

Catherine nodded calmly, "Yeah, it's my boyfriend's."

"Oh my god, he's loaded." Her colleague's eyes widened.

Catherine thought about it. Manuel was indeed rich, but his money had nothing to do with her. She didn't want to seem like she was bragging, so she just said, "Let's get in."

They got in the car. Manuel glanced over, silently asking who the other person was. Catherine introduced them, "This is my boyfriend, Manuel. He's a doctor. And this is my colleague, Savannah Faith. She teaches the class next door."

Manuel gave a slight nod, "Hi."

Savannah was taken aback by Manuel's looks. After a moment, she finally managed, "Hi."

She leaned in close to Catherine and whispered, "Wait, didn't you say your boyfriend was just average-looking? This guy is definitely not average. He's a total heartthrob."

Catherine touched her nose, feeling a bit sheepish.

Savannah's reaction wasn't surprising. When Catherine first met Manuel, she was also blown away. But after a while, the initial excitement wore off.

Savannah kept going, "You found such a handsome boyfriend and didn't tell me? If I had a rich and handsome boyfriend like him, I'd be showing him off every day."

Catherine felt a bit awkward, especially since she could see Manuel's eyes in the rearview mirror.

Savannah's voice was loud enough that Manuel probably heard some of it.

Sensing her embarrassment, Manuel asked, "Where to?"

Savannah stammered, "Um, Maplewood Heights."

It was hard not to be nervous around a guy like Manuel, especially when he was so cool and composed.

"Got it," Manuel said, starting the car.

The ride was a bit quiet, so Catherine tried to make conversation, "Manuel, is your business trip over?"

"Yeah," Manuel replied. "The medical project is done, so I came back."

Manuel then asked, "How's your injury? Is it healing?"

Catherine nodded, "It's much better. The scar has faded a lot. You can barely see it unless you look closely."

"What about the afternoon medication? Did you take it?"

"Yeah, you already reminded me on the phone. The doctor said I can come back in ten days next time because the wound is healing faster, so I don't need to change the dressing as often."

"How's it healing?" Manuel suddenly reached over and pressed her lower abdomen.

Catherine was startled and glared at him, "What are you doing?"

This was in the car, and Savannah was right there in the back seat.

Manuel withdrew his hand, unfazed.

Savannah felt a bit awkward, "You two seem really close. Have you been dating long?"

Catherine thought for a moment, "About a month, I guess."

But if she counted the time as a mistress, it would be longer, probably almost a year.

"That short?" Savannah was surprised, "Seeing how sweet you two are, I thought you'd been together for at least a year."

Catherine smiled.

Manuel added, "We've known each other for a long time."

"When did you two meet? In college?" Savannah asked, curious.

"Yeah, we were classmates in college, but in different classes." Catherine awkwardly touched her nose.

For some reason, she felt like this was showing off their relationship.

Manuel and she weren't in a relationship where they could naturally show off their love, right? Why was Manuel so comfortable with this?

They chatted for a bit, and soon they arrived at Maplewood Heights.
