Chapter 250: Together Forever

The polished marble floor seemed to tilt beneath Sharon's feet as she emerged from the restroom. Panic clawed at her throat.

Her heart pounded violently in her chest as she found their secluded table devoid of Adrian's presence.

She scanned the restaurant, her gaze darting between occupied tables, searching for his familiar broad shoulders and kind eyes.

Abandonment gripped her in icy tendrils as her eyes frantically scanned the elegant restaurant.

Had he…left her?

Had he stormed out? Vanished like a wisp of smoke, leaving her with the dizzying reality of her newfound fortune?

"Adrian?" she called out desperately.

Her wavering voice was drowned out by the ambient hum of conversation and clinking dishes.

Murmurs and clattering silverware seemed to amplify, making her feel more embarrassed and uncomfortable.

Heads swiveled in her direction, curiosity flickering in their eyes. Sharon felt like a spotlight had been thrown on her, the warmth of humiliation creeping up her cheeks.

With each passing second, the fear of abandonment solidified. Had she misjudged him so terribly? Was building her dream his elaborate way of saying goodbye?

And to think of it, he hadn't called her ma douce all night, or for what felt like a long time. The weight of her mistrust, the sting of her rejections, pressed down on her like a physical burden.

Ignoring the sidelong stares from other patrons, Sharon pivoted on her heel, searching in vain for that beloved familiar figure.

Her breath came in ragged pants as dark thoughts assailed her. It was true...that she didn't love him with the same intensity in which he loved her.

Again and again, she would not make that deeper commitment that he wanted, obviously showing her feelings were not at the same intense level as his.

Had he simply cut his losses and walked out on her life, just as swiftly as he had entered it?

The pain of that possibility lanced straight through her. She had been so certain of his love, of the profundity of the bond between them.

But what if she had deluded herself? What if he could no longer see past the rejections of the woman who adored him with every fiber of her being?

Unable to bear the suffocating atmosphere any longer, Sharon stumbled towards the exit, her legs driven by a desperate need to escape the judging stares and the echoing silence where Adrian used to be.

An anguished sob nearly tore from her throat as she moved, dreading what fresh hell of his absence might await her outside those doors.

The blast of chill evening air slapped her senses as she pushed through the heavy glass doors. But it barely registered, all she could think of was finding him.

And there, silhouetted against the antique streetlamp, stood the unmistakable form of the man who had utterly upended her world.

Relief surged through her, a sweet, intoxicating wave that washed away the fear.

In that crystalline moment, nothing else existed for Sharon except the burning need to feel his arms envelop her once more.

Uncaring of her lack of jacket or the bitter chill, she rushed towards him, her thin dress offering little protection against the biting wind.

She moved as if possessed, hurrying to cross the scant distance separating them.

She reached him, breathless, her frame colliding with him as she flung herself against him, hands grasping wildly at the expensive material of his overcoat.

She hugged him tightly from behind, wrapping her hands around him, pressing him close to her body with all the strength she could muster.

"Adrian…Adrian, I thought…" she cried out. "I saw you weren't there, and I feared…"

He saw her bare arms around his chest and quickly turned around. The cool evening shadows caressed the chiseled angles of his face.

His face showed concern and something that looked suspiciously like longing.

He opened his coat and gathered her against him, closing the coat around her. She threw her arms around his waist, a silent apology, a wordless plea for forgiveness.

"I'm right here, Sharon," he murmured, the rough timbre of his voice sending delicious tendrils of sensation unfurling low in her belly.

He held her close, his warmth seeping into her chilled bones. She buried her face in the reassuring warmth of his neck, every ragged exhale of her breath clinging visibly to the night air.

"Is it too late?" she whispered, her voice muffled. Shame and regret gnawed at her, sharp and relentless.

He didn't reply immediately. He simply pulled his coat tighter around them, creating a small haven of warmth amidst the chilly night.

Then, she gently lifted her head and looked up at him. The looming specter of loneliness dissipated like a bad dream as their eyes met and held.

His gaze, usually so warm and reassuring, held a flicker of vulnerability.

Pulling her close, he simply held her as the rest of the world faded away into blissful insignificance. Because in that perfect moment, they had found everything their hearts could ever need or desire, in each other.

Her full lips trembled as the last remnants of fear dissipated.

"I love you," she gasped out fervently. "Adrian, I love you so much it consumes me."

He simply smiled at her.

"Marry me…" she said in a whisper.

"Ma douce..."

"I want to spend the remainder of my days with you..." she said brushing her nose with his. "...and my nights. I can no longer bear to be away from you, my love."

His mouth crashed against hers then, erasing the chill from her bones with the blazing heat of his kiss.

Sharon melted against the scorching brand of his embrace, all coherent thoughts burning away in the inferno of their passion.

For long, languorous moments the world ceased to exist beyond the featherlight caresses of his lips, the rasp of his stubble against her flushed cheek, the masculine musk of his skin surrounding her senses.

Sharon clung to him with everything she possessed, silently beseeching the fates to never part them again.

When at last they resurfaced, foreheads resting together and chests heaving in tandem, Adrian's eyes shone with naked adoration.

"You have me, ma douce," he rasped, fingertips tracing her kiss swollen lips with reverent wonder. "Heart, body, and soul, I am yours unto the end of time itself."

Her lids slipped closed as she fully accepted the deep meaning of his declaration and the intense truth between them. Adrian held her tightly against him, within the protective circle of his coat.

Sharon allowed herself to sink into the exquisite security of his embrace, finally letting the last of her fears dissipate like a morning's mist burned away by the sun's first rays.

At that moment, being held by her other half who she was destined to be with, she knew with every fiber of her being that they would always be together.

"You know all the jewelry you made for Donnie Wade is yours right?"

"It's a good thing I made them to perfection then," she said, smiling at him.

It was impossible for him to resist kissing her, especially as she looked and smiled at him that way.

With a satisfied sigh, she snuggled closer into his warmth, enjoying feeling his strong heartbeat in sync with her own. This was their new start, their forever after, their lives now joined.

As they exchanged promises of forever, the final page of their story turned. They embraced the certainty of their future, where their love would continue to blossom, unfettered by the trials of the past.

This was their hard won love, not just the end of their story, but the long awaited beginning of their great romance finally being written.

And in that moment, surrounded by the quiet certainty of their love, they knew that their journey had led them exactly where they were meant to be.

Together…forever.
