Chapter 195 Pregnant
Chapter 195 Pregnant
Henry smiled without a hint of embarrassment. "No matter how old I get, I'll always know how to love you right."
Caring for her, spoiling her—that was what being a husband meant. Olivia turned her head away, but the smile tugging at her lips betrayed her. She stirred the pasta in front of her, the rich aroma wrapping around them like the quiet warmth of an ordinary day.
After lunch, Olivia was ready to head home, but Henry insisted on driving her. When he saw the pile of shopping bags, his brows knit. "Why did you buy so much? It's heavy. Next time, call me. I'll carry it."
He wasn't upset about the money—he was upset she'd tired herself out. That side of Henry made Olivia's chest feel warm.
"I thought the place looked a little empty, so I bought a few decorations I like. I guess I went a bit overboard walking around, so now I'm tired. I just want to go home and rest."
Henry nodded and quickly drove her back. Olivia lay down and fell asleep almost instantly, her face still pale enough to make him worry.
Before leaving, he made her a sweet soup.
She slept for three hours straight—a rare thing for her in the daytime. When she woke, the sky outside had dimmed, tree shadows swaying against the building, the breeze nudging the curtains.
She stared at the ceiling for a moment, the faint scent of the sweet soup still lingering at the tip of her nose.
Her phone lit up—Henry's message: [Awake yet? There's sweet soup in the kitchen. Drink some. Tonight we're going home together. Wait for me, okay?]
Olivia smiled as she typed back: [I didn't know you had such good cooking skills. I'll wait for you.]
She stood to go wash up, but the moment she rose, the room spun. She steadied herself against the wall, her fingers cold.
The faint, shaky feeling was familiar—it was low blood sugar. She was heading for the kitchen when her vision went black. She collapsed, the phone ringing somewhere nearby. She tried to reach for it, but consciousness slipped away.
At that moment, Henry was in a conference—an important case review. For some reason, after sending Olivia that last message, a wave of unease had settled in his chest.
"Next, we invite the case lead, Mr. Phillips, to speak."
Henry rose, his police uniform crisp, his posture sharp. He strode to the podium and began his address.
He spoke for thirty minutes, clear and precise, drawing quiet murmurs of approval from the audience.
But when he finished, he excused himself and headed straight for the apartment.
"Olivia, I'm home!"
He scanned the living room—no sign of her. Passing the kitchen, he saw it untouched. He rushed to the bedroom. When he saw her crumpled on the floor, his pupils blew wide. In three quick strides, he was at her side, scooping her up. He pressed his fingers to her nose and let out a shaky breath when he felt the faint breath.
"Olivia, what happened? Olivia, open your eyes. Look at me... don't scare me like this."
Just hours ago she'd been full of life—how could she be lying here now? His voice trembled as he called emergency services. The ambulance took her to the hospital, leaving Henry feeling hollow.
Outside the ER, he finally thought to call her mother. Autumn nearly fainted when she heard. Thankfully, Violette was home and quickly contacted Gwyneth.
Gwyneth drove over, picking up both women. "Olivia was fine... how could she suddenly collapse?"
Not long ago, Olivia had undergone a full check-up—everything had come back normal. A sudden fainting spell was no small matter.
Autumn hurried to the ER door, finding Henry pacing the corridor.
"Henry, how is Olivia?"
Henry shook his head, guilt clouding his eyes. "I shouldn't have left her alone. If I'd been there, this wouldn't have happened."
Autumn was anxious but kept her composure. She knew how much Henry cared for Olivia—she didn't blame him.
The ER door swung open. Henry stepped forward immediately.
"Doctor, how's my wife?"
The doctor glanced at the chart. "She fainted from hypoglycemia. Blood tests show she's pregnant. It's likely the low blood sugar and her body adjusting to the pregnancy caused it. Both mother and baby are stable for now, but she'll need close monitoring."
Henry froze, a roar in his head—Olivia... pregnant? He looked down at his trembling hands, his guilt twisting into fear and disbelief.
"What? Olivia's pregnant? Seriously? I'm going to be a godmother!" Gwyneth's voice pitched high as she grabbed Autumn. "Godmother, is this real? Is it?"
Autumn was stunned. No one knew better than her how badly Olivia had been injured before—pregnancy had seemed impossible. And yet...
She called Parker immediately. Parker rushed to the hospital upon hearing the news.
"Don't worry. I'll run a full exam. We'll know exactly what's going on soon."
Autumn nodded, tears streaming. Henry was equally tense—he knew Olivia's condition. If he had to choose between her and the baby, he wouldn't hesitate.
Minutes crawled like centuries.
When Parker emerged, night had fallen.
He said, "Olivia is pregnant—about three weeks along. The baby's stable for now, but her body's too weak. Without enough nutrition, she could miscarry at any moment. Given her condition, I recommend hospitalizing her to keep the pregnancy safe."
Autumn nodded quickly. "Hospitalized, immediately. We'll follow the treatment plan. I'll go home later and make soup—she needs to be nourished."
Henry helped her sit. "Mom, stay with Olivia. I'll handle the paperwork. Later I'll make soup too. Don't worry—I'll take care of both Olivia and the baby."
He had never imagined fatherhood would be possible for him. The thought filled him with both fear and anticipation.
He rushed to complete the admission process. Once Olivia was settled in the ward, he went home to cook, bringing her favorite mushroom soup—simmered for four hours, every bit of fat skimmed away—along with fresh clothes and bags of essentials.
"Henry, she's only staying a few days. Why bring so much?"
Autumn stared at the pile, startled. Henry just smiled.
"I don't want her to feel uncomfortable here. These are all things she uses every day. The soup's ready—it's her favorite. I also made dinner for you both. Eat while it's hot. Olivia's in my hands."
