Chapter 10
Chapter 10
(Past)
I’ve been home a week and have probably slept a total of six hours the entire time. Jay helps out as much as she can, but that isn’t really all that much help since she has to work. I try to let her sleep because of her having to work, but seriously I need some rest and some help. My mother comes over and helps me out, which is the only way I was able to get those six hours of sleep, and sometimes my sister comes over to give me a break when she’s off of work and not busy. There are times when having two children seems like a good thing and then there are times when I just want to pull my hair out. I don’t regret my decision to keep my son at all, I mean it isn’t his fault how he was conceived, but I really do wish sometimes that I could have had that two year gap between kids that Jay and I talked about in the beginning. Having a newborn and a toddler can drive you a bit crazy, but at the end of the day, I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Once I finally get both of them down for a nap, I go downstairs to fix myself a sandwich and watch some television. Of course my living room is now full of toys courtesy of my loving daughter.
“I think Jay and I need to have a conversation about turning that extra room into a playroom or turning the gym into a living room and using this room for a play room.” I sigh and sink down into the couch telling myself that I’ll pick up the toys later.
While eating my lunch, I watch the news to check the weather and then decide to watch a movie. I decide to just watch whatever is in the DVD player because I am too tired to get up and look for another movie. I press play and see that the last movie I watched was Twilight.
“Well, at least this is a movie that I don’t mind watching.” I lie on my side facing the television and get comfortable watching the movie. At some point I must have dozed off because I am awakened from my sleep by a high pitched cry. I instantly jump up and begin making my way upstairs to the nursery. Once inside I see that my daughter is still sleeping, but my son’s face is bright red from all the screaming and crying he is doing. I walk up to the crib and pick him up rocking him from side to side in my arms.
“Aww my poor baby, what’s the matter?” I croon to him as I gently rock him. His cries slowly start to die down but he is still upset, so I decide to take him down the hall to my bedroom.
“Sweetie what’s the matter? Did momma’s little angel have a bad dream or are you hungry?”
I look at the time and realize that it is close time for his next feeding but not exactly, so I check his diaper to make sure he isn’t wet. After I check his diaper and change it, I lay him down in the bed with me and turn the television on just for the noise. I sing to him and play with him until it is time to feed him, and when he’s done eating I burp him and then take him for his bath. After bathing him he lays on the bed with me playing with my fingers while sucking his pacifier before finally falling asleep again. I decide to take that opportunity to get some rest as well before Jay gets home or my lovely son wakes up again for his next feeding.
(Present)
When he is finished talking to his boss and comes back into the living room, we talk a little longer before I get up to start fixing the kids’ plates for dinner. I ask him if he would like to eat but he says that he has already eaten and also thinks it would be unprofessional of him to eat when he is supposed to be working. He goes into the security room as I round up the kids and get their hands washed for dinner. Alexa is talking non-stop about the new toy that her grandmother got her when she went spend the weekend with them. I told them a hundred times to stop buying her so many toys. I don’t want her to become one of those spoiled rich kids that you see on those reality shows and that I’ve actually met in life.
Some of the people that Jay has dealings with in business are some of the most stuck up and spoiled people you will ever meet in life and I refuse to have my son and daughter grow up to be like them. They will learn that if you want something in life then you must work hard to earn it, and that just because you have money doesn’t mean you can just buy whatever you want just because you think you can. Yes, financially we are definitely doing well, but that is not what life is all about. If we lost all of our money we would still be rich because of the love we have for each other as a family and that is something that no one can ever take away from us.
Once the kids are done eating and have taken their baths, they go into their rooms to play until their grandmother comes to pick them up. She called while they were eating and asked if they could come over and spend the night. I called Jay and left her a message when she didn’t answer saying that I’m going to take a bath and that her food is in the warmer just in case she comes home before I get out. I also let her know that my mother has picked up the children and they are spending the night there. I didn’t want them here when Jay got home and we started discussing those messages. The last thing I need is for them to walk in on that conversation and get scared.
