Deal with River

Reyna’s P.O.V

"Every Saturday?" I nearly gasped, turning my gaze at River.

'What is he trying to do!?' I asked in my mind, trying to find the answer in his face. But, I couldn't get any because of his blank expression.

'What if he is planning something horrifying? What will I do then?' The thought made me shiver to the core, thinking of all the things he could do to me. Of course, all the dirty things popped into my not-so-innocent mind. It's really getting hard for me to ignore him with time and behave sanely.

'This is definitely not something good. This man is dangerous and getting entangled with him only means trouble. Maybe...' my thoughts broke when his deep melodious voice came to her ear.

"I am waiting, Reyna Parker." River reminded me by calling me by my full name.

I looked up at him and he was watching me with the same intense gaze. No way to read his mind as he got the PhD on the blank expression.

I chewed on my inner lips before asking, "Umm... You are my boss. Well, not only mine but the head of the company. Is it okay for me to meet with you every Saturday?" I asked, trying to dodge the plan he was making with a sensitive excuse. "You are the leader of the new project, Miss Reyna. As I am handling the project directly, your meeting with me is nothing inappropriate, let's be professional." He replied with the same expression and a serious tone.

Though he was telling the truth, I was still trying to find a way to walk away. "But, why every Saturday? What meeting can we possibly do every week over just one topic?"

"This is a very serious project, Miss Reyna. I need to know your progression every week personally and Saturday is the  perfect time for me." He replied as usual.

I was at a loss for words. I didn't find anything else to retort because of his normal answers. They didn't give me any hint of trouble; River was a calm guy back In school days until Laura and her daughter showed up and Became their father's second wife.

After River Was Accused of stealing his father and his twin brother locked him up. I was the one who set him free. After some months, Luara and her daughter set me up with Matt River’s friend, Who claimed I was having an affair with him. Which caused our separation. Both River and his twin. They left their father's house and started their life.

'He sounded quite decent. Maybe, he is really concerned about the project and nothing ridiculous. Moreover, he is the boss. If I tried to push it more he could kick me out of the company!' I gasped inwardly at my own thoughts. 'No, I can't lose this job at any cost! I have suffered a lot to get this one job, and I am still suffering. The wisest thing is to agree with him.'

I pursed my lips, nodding my head after hesitating for a moment. "Okay, I will meet you every Saturday. But, I have a condition."

River nodded. "Go ahead."

"I will only come if you promise me to not make any outrageous demands," I said very clearly, stretching every syllable. My heart was beating fast because, for some reason,, I couldn't think of him not demanding anything from me.

Especially after the kind of encounters, they had the most.

However, to her surprise, River agreed to the condition as he nodded his head. "Fine, Miss Reyna. This is not only from my side but this condition is applicable from both sides. And I hope you can comply." He stressed his every word.

My beating heart calmed down at his words. The way he made eye contact directly with mine, told me the seriousness of the decision.

I stood up from his lap, and this time, he let me go. Looking at his cold face, I felt a bit different. It's like the warmth surrounding me just turned cold and fuzzy.

Trying to ignore it, I stretched my right hand to him, "then, it's a deal?" I said

River once glanced at my hand, holding it. "Deal." And then let go immediately. Surely, the atmosphere in the room has changed.

The moment their deal was done, someone knocked on the door.

"Get in." River permitted me to see the same man who brought me here go inside.

"This is it, Miss Reyna. You can leave now." River said with his usual tone, turning his gaze at his assistant.

With a silent nod, I walked out of the room, feeling relieved. After all, the heart-thudding intensity was gone. But, when I was out of the room and the door closed behind me, I felt an unusual string in my heart.

'He was warm when I went inside, holding me in his arms and somewhat seducing me which worked.' I bit down my lips, walking on the corridor, following the guard who was ordered to escort me out. 'But, after I kept the condition, he turned cold! Did... Did my words upset him? He didn't do or even say anything... to me... When I was leaving...'

Upset, I came out of the mansion. But I paused the moment a thought hit my mind. 'Wait... Why am I so upset over his actions? What am I expecting him to do!? I shouldn't, right? He is my boss now, not my boyfriend again and it's not appropriate for us to be in such a messy kind of interaction! What happened before, it's gone now. That time, he wasn't my boss, but that time does not exist anymore.' I nodded at myself as if confirming the information in my mind.

'This is a very important project and I need to focus on it more than him. I need to focus on my career.' And with that determination, I left for my home.

The whole time on my way back home, I thought about how to start the project and finally reached home.

However, the moment I was entering the building, I suddenly felt a strong grip on my arm and before I could react, I was pulled into the shadows!
