Chapter 244

Chapter 244

Hanging up the phone, Remy's lips curved into an irrepressible smile.

"Mom, can you tell me why you like Chloe so much?" Sloane looked at Remy with an innocent expression.

Remy was slightly taken aback.

She didn't know the specific reason either.

Perhaps it was because of Chloe's rare talent?

Perhaps it was because Chloe's features and habits were so similar to that person?

Or maybe, she just felt an inexplicable sense of closeness every time she interacted with Chloe.

"I don't know either." finally, Remy shook her head. "It's probably fate."

Sloane didn't ask again, her gaze sweeping over the few sketches on Remy's desk without a sound.

"If there's nothing else, I'll go back to my room to study." Sloane said obediently. "This application was a bit rushed. There are still many things to learn, and time is tight."

Seeing her serious expression, Remy felt a pang of pity. "Sloane, it's really okay. You don't have to prove yourself in the design field. I know how outstanding you are."

"Mom, I won't let you down." Sloane stared at Remy with a serious expression.

Sloane had grown up by Remy's side, so Remy naturally knew her character. "Okay, don't tire yourself out."

"I know, Mom."

Sloane left Remy's room. The moment the door closed, Sloane's innocent little face turned cold.

It became sinister and terrifying.

A small kitten had crawled to Sloane's feet at some point.

Sloane frowned, staring at the meowing kitten.

"Isn't it cute? Its name is Milo. I just bought it." Amara appeared out of nowhere.

She bent down and picked up the kitten, stroking its soft fur.

"Very cute." Sloane praised with a blank expression.

She turned and went back to her room.

Then she slammed the door shut.

Staring at Sloane's closed door, Amara's face turned cold.

"What's so great about you? Just because your mom helped Grandpa this time? You're still relying on my Howard. Just lucky. You really think you're something."

Amara's muttering was clearly heard by Sloane through the door.

The pencil in her hand snapped, and a strange smile appeared on Sloane's lips.

In the top-floor office of the Miller Group, Teddy inserted the USB drive he had gotten from Griffin into the computer.

The events of the banquet night were clearly recorded.

Even Amara pulling the waiter aside to ask how things were going was clearly captured.

Amara had timed it perfectly, waiting for the drug to take effect before leading a group of people to the balcony to see the drugged person make a fool of themselves.

And this time, the person Amara had intended to harm was not Griffin at all, but Chloe.

Griffin had just been in the wrong place at the wrong time, taking the fall for Chloe.

As expected, Griffin hadn't lied about this.

Staring at the back of Chloe and Griffin chatting happily, a thick layer of jealousy rose in Howard's eyes.

This Griffin was too dangerous.

And, he didn't like Chloe smiling at anyone but him.

"Mr. Miller?" Seeing Howard staring at the computer screen in a daze, Teddy called out softly.

Howard snapped back to his senses. "This Amara has a lot of tricks up her sleeve. It seems the previous lesson wasn't enough."

"What does Mr. Miller plan to do?" Teddy asked proactively.

It was no exaggeration to say that Chloe was Howard's treasure.

But Amara was clueless. Of all people to provoke, she had to provoke Chloe.

"Mr. Ryder Jenkins will have to thank me. At that time, I'll have to give him a few pointers." Howard said slowly.

Ryder had absolute authority in the Jenkins family.

Except for Remy, who had her own career, almost everyone in the Jenkins family depended on Ryder.

As long as she completely lost Ryder's favor, Amara would definitely not have a good life at home in the future.

"Understood, Mr. Miller." Teddy nodded.

It seemed Amara's future days were numbered.

Teddy thought to himself.

On the other side, in a quiet coffee shop.

Chloe had tidied herself up and rushed over to meet Griffin.

"Here." Griffin waved at Chloe.

"Are you feeling better?" Chloe sat down opposite Griffin.

"I'm much better." he still had that gentle and kind face that made it impossible for anyone to feel any hostility towards him.

"Something on your mind?" Seeing Griffin slowly stirring his coffee with a troubled expression, Chloe asked.

"It's just a trivial matter." Griffin sighed.

The sunlight slanted through the window, casting a shadow on Griffin's eyelashes.

So, even a favored son of heaven like Griffin had his worries.

Chloe thought to herself.

"I can be your listener, if you don't mind." after the last incident, Chloe had come to appreciate Griffin even more and felt that he was a friend worth making.

"It's rare to meet a friend as genuine as Ms. Brown." Griffin smiled helplessly.

"It's just sincerity for sincerity." Chloe said bluntly.

But Griffin shook his head. Sometimes, sincerity was not necessarily returned with sincerity, including family affection.

"What do you mean?" Chloe frowned slightly, not understanding what Griffin meant.

"Naturally, it's about the Jenkins family." Griffin lowered his eyes, a darkness in their depths.

"The Jenkins family?" Chloe remembered that Sawyer had been furious about Amara drugging Griffin and had even threatened to withdraw his investment in the Jenkins Group's project.

The Jenkins Group's stock market had also been a complete mess lately due to Amara's scandalous news and the Martinez family's threat to withdraw their investment.

The matter had fermented to the point that even she, who didn't pay attention to the stock market, had heard about it.

Could there be some hidden story behind this?

"I think that those who make mistakes should be punished, whether they hurt me or my good friend." Griffin looked up at Chloe, his emotions unreadable.

Chloe was slightly taken aback, not knowing how to answer for a moment.

Seeing Chloe silent, Griffin continued to ask, "Does Ms. Brown love Howard very much?"

"Howard?" Although she didn't know why Griffin would suddenly mention Howard, Chloe still subconsciously nodded.

"But what about Howard? He clearly knew that Amara's target last time was you..."

"What do you mean?"

Griffin knew in his heart that Howard would never let Chloe get involved in these complicated business disputes, but he still pretended to be surprised. "Doesn't Ms. Brown know?"

"I don't know. What is Mr. Martinez referring to?"

"It's about the continued cooperation between the Martinez family and the Jenkins family."

Griffin slowly took a sip of his coffee.

Chloe indeed didn't know about this and even found it a bit incredible.

According to Sawyer's character, how was this possible?

"Ms. Brown probably doesn't know, but it was Howard who acted as a lobbyist for the Jenkins family." a slight smile appeared on Griffin's lips as he observed Chloe's reaction.

"Howard?"

"It seems that Ms. Jenkins has been pursuing Mr. Miller for so many years. Mr. Miller probably has to show some consideration for her feelings."
