Chapter 187
Arthur collapsed back onto the sofa, his eyes bloodshot.
"Chloe blocked me. She must still be angry. I need to find her and apologize in person."
Seeing Arthur in this state, Flynn instinctively tried to comfort him, "Arthur, you and Chloe ended things ages ago. Why keep obsessing? Besides, the Williams family is what matters right now. You can't afford to lose both love and money."
Those words pierced Arthur's heart like thorns. He shoved Flynn away, his face contorted with uncontrollable anger.
"You don't understand. You have no idea how important Chloe is to me. I can't lose her. She can only be mine."
Arthur now looked almost manic.
"Give me your phone," he demanded, suddenly extending his hand toward Flynn as if remembering something.
Sensing Arthur's intention, Flynn instinctively refused. "Arthur, you're drunk. Let me have someone take you home."
Arthur wouldn't listen. Seeing Flynn's reluctance, he lunged forward to grab the phone.
"The phone! I need the phone! I have to explain everything to Chloe."
Caught off guard, Flynn was pinned against the sofa as Arthur snatched his phone away.
With the phone back in his possession, Arthur's eyes flashed with delight as he excitedly dialed that familiar number again.
"Hello?" Chloe answered the unknown number, confusion evident in her voice.
Hearing her gentle voice, Arthur struggled to contain his excitement as he asked urgently, "Chloe, where are you? I miss you. Can we meet?"
Recognizing Arthur's call, Chloe's face instantly fell, her tone becoming irritated.
"Arthur, if you're drunk, just go home. I have no obligation to see you. We've been over for ages. Stop pretending to be heartbroken—it only makes you more disgusting to me."
After hanging up, Chloe felt somewhat relieved. She deleted and blocked Flynn's number as well.
To prevent Arthur from harassing her with other phones, she even set her phone to do not disturb mode.
Perhaps due to Chloe's agitated state, Howard emerged from his study after hearing the commotion.
Seeing Chloe sitting at her vanity with an angry expression, Howard instinctively asked with concern, "Chlo, what's wrong? Are you feeling unwell?"
Hearing his voice, Chloe turned reflexively. When her eyes met Howard's, all her negative emotions instantly vanished.
Not wanting Howard to know about these troubles, Chloe smiled and casually made an excuse, "I'm fine. Just got a few spam calls."
"That's good. Why is your hair still wet?" Howard asked, somewhat relieved as his gaze fell on her dripping hair. He walked into the room.
"Let me dry it for you."
Chloe instinctively wanted to refuse. "No need, I can do it myself."
But Howard was already standing behind her, beating her to the hairdryer.
"Chlo, you're my wife. You should accept these small gestures gracefully."
Hearing these words, something stirred in Chloe's heart.
Howard's movements were gentle as he carefully held her hair strands, meticulously drying away the excess moisture.
The distance between them unconsciously narrowed.
The next day.
Adeline rarely had free time, but she went to visit Heath at the hospital. While heading downstairs, she thought of Kelvin.
She found her way to Kelvin's office with practiced ease but was completely stunned by what she saw.
The office that had belonged to Kelvin now had someone else in it.
Adeline locked eyes with the doctor, instinctively backed out of the office, and checked the nameplate on the door.
Confirming she hadn't made a mistake, Adeline entered again and asked, puzzled, "Where's Dr. Kelvin? Is he off today?"
Hearing Adeline's question, the doctor didn't conceal anything, "Dr. Kelvin has resigned."
"Why?" Adeline frowned.
Kelvin was the hospital's star doctor. There was no reason he would be dismissed so easily.
"Just yesterday, a patient's family came to make trouble for Dr. Kelvin. The director thought it created a bad impression, had a talk with him, and he submitted his resignation that afternoon."
Adeline pondered this thoughtfully.
"Thank you," she said absently before leaving the hospital.
Once outside, Adeline called Kelvin. She could guess it was likely someone from the Williams family again.
This Kyle was truly ridiculous—didn't he ever get tired of these tactics?
But the call showed no answer.
Adeline raised an eyebrow and walked toward the parking lot. Just as she was about to get in her car, someone held the door.
Recognizing the person, Adeline silently smiled and raised her eyebrows.
"Ms. Williams, you really have plenty of leisure time to visit the hospital every day."
"Where is he?"
Both women knew exactly who "he" referred to.
Adeline crossed her arms, playing with her nails.
"Ms. Williams, why should I tell you? You're just his sister. He's cut ties with you now. Where he is seems irrelevant to you."
Adeline sneered.
"I wouldn't say that," she changed to a practiced pose, leaning against the car door. "I'd say his resignation might even be your doing, Ms. Williams."
"What nonsense are you talking about?" Diana's eyes flashed with malice, her gaze becoming twisted.
That smile again.
What Diana hated most was Adeline's carefree, indifferent smile.
Yet Kelvin's gaze would linger on that face.
Kelvin was her brother. He had promised to stay with her forever. Why should anyone else receive Kelvin's attention besides her?
"Whether it's nonsense or not, you know the truth, Ms. Williams. I'm very busy," Adeline said, opening the car door, too tired to continue arguing.
"Move aside."
"Tell me where he is, or else..."
