Chapter Thirty-One - Unwanted Interuptions

Chapter Thirty-One - Unwanted Interuptions
Gabe

I sigh as I step out of the shower and head to my bedroom, feeling disappointed by Peyton’s response about us meeting again. I probably shouldn’t be surprised— I understand her decision, but I refuse to lose hope. As I enter my room, I startle when I see Peyton sitting on the bed’s edge. Why is she here? Honestly, I expected her to have left by now, not to be sitting in my room.

“Peyton, what are you doing in here?”

She looks up at me but doesn’t reply, her attention drifting to my nearly exposed body. I'm only wearing a towel around my waist. Peyton often said she liked my post-shower appearance best.

“I came to check I had everything, and when I saw your bed wasn’t made, I did it." She finally responds, focusing on my face instead of my chest and stomach.

I laugh because some things never change. “That still irritates you, huh?”

Peyton always hated it when I didn’t make the bed.

She laughs and nods. “Yes, it still pisses me off. It takes a minute.”

Her eyes quickly shift back to my chest and stomach as her tongue runs along her lower lip. I smirk and stroll towards the bed, stopping only inches in front of her. The closeness makes her lift her head.

“Enjoying the view?”

Peyton bites her lower lip. “Hmm, I’m not sure what you mean."

I lean down, placing my hands on either side of her on the bed, with a small gap between her lips and mine. “Yes, you do.”

She swallows hard and shifts her position. “G-G-Gabe, what are you doing?”

“Nothing,” I whisper.

“Then why are you so close to me?”

“Does it bother you having me this close?” I ask.
Peyton shakes her head. “Not at all.”

She is a terrible liar; however, her body language and flushed face suggest otherwise.

“Such a bad liar.”

Silence lingers between us, but our eyes stay connected. Our breathing intensifies as the tension in the air thickens. Peyton closes the distance and crashes her lips onto mine in a passionate, urgent kiss. I groan and promptly respond to the kiss, without hesitation.

Peyton interlaces her fingers in my wet hair, deepening the kiss and moaning into my lip. It feels incredibly good. Peyton leans back on the bed, using the towel to pull me closer. I hold her hips firmly, forcing my tongue into her mouth. She gives me the access I desire, our tongues battling for control.

Peyton’s legs wrap around me as she rocks her hips against me. A deep growl escapes my lips, and my desire awakens, pulsing with need. She reaches for the towel, fingers grasping it, but just then, there’s a knock at the front door.

“Are you expecting someone?” she asks, breathless as she breaks the kiss.

“No, ignore it.”

She nods and presses our lips together again, but the person knocks once more. I curse in frustration, hoping whoever it is will just go away.

“You should answer it.”

Sighing, I jump to my feet, put on loose joggers to hide my excitement, and toss the towel into the laundry basket. Peyton remains on the bed, panting.

“I will be back in a second.”

They’d better have a good reason for coming to my door and interrupting me. There’s a chance that, because of the interruption, we won’t continue, since Peyton has time to change her mind. I run my fingers through my wet hair and go to answer.

“Were you still asleep?” Kaitlyn laughs.

Kaitlyn and Anthony are standing outside my front door, and I can’t send them away because it would raise questions.
“No, I am just out of the shower. Come in.”

“Is Peyton still here?” Kaitlyn asks. “I have coffee for all of us."

I can’t let them know she's waiting in my bed for me. Peyton wasn’t pleased when I confirmed our hookup at the wedding.

“Yes, I am still here. I was in the bathroom," Peyton’s voice says from behind us.

She must have heard Kaitlyn’s voice, gathered herself, and hurried over. I glance back at her, noticing her face is still flushed—hopefully, that won’t reveal what we were doing before they knocked.

Kaitlyn and Anthony walk in, and I roll my eyes as I close the door behind them. I wish they had arrived an hour later. Kaitlyn passes around the coffee, and we all move to the living room to sit down. Peyton chooses a chair instead of sitting next to me on the sofa.

“I was planning to head back to your place soon,” she says.

“We were already out for breakfast, so we thought we'd stop by. How was your sleepover?” Anthony smirks, glancing between us.

“It was fine. We only slept, nothing else, so don’t even go there," Peyton laughs, shaking her head.

“Peyton is telling the truth,” I confirm.

Kaitlyn and Anthony glance at us, attempting to gauge our honesty. Technically, we are truthful since nothing occurred between us last night. They nod in approval, satisfied with our response. They don’t need to know what was happening just ten minutes ago.

“When are you heading home?” Kaitlyn asks.

“In a couple of hours,” Peyton answers.

"So, do you all want to go out and do something instead of being stuck inside?” Kaitlyn suggests.

Everyone nods in agreement. It gives me an extra couple of hours with Peyton before she disappears from my life again, and I don’t know how long it'll be. We probably won’t get another chance to be alone soon, something Peyton is likely okay with. As for me, not so much.
I excuse myself to change into some clothes. I can’t go out in joggers and nothing else. I close the bedroom door and rest against it, sighing. I love Kaitlyn and Anthony, but right now I would rather spend my time with only Peyton. Shaking my head, I quickly change and return to the living room. We all head out with no plan or intention in mind. With any luck, we will lose track of time, and Peyton won’t head home any time soon.
