Chapter 40
Micah POV
I was getting ready to take my car to the mechanic to see if there was anything that could be done to salvage the situation when my mother called me from down stairs saying I had a visitor, I groaned as grabbed a tee shirt and quickly out it on as I hurried down the stairs with my keys in my back pocket only for me to stop at the last step when I saw who it was.
Alyssa, someone whom I was clearly not expecting to see. I was even tempted to not believe my eyes because I was certain that Alyssa would never apologize for what happened, the highest I was expecting her to do is to concede to the fact that maybe she was not right with her actions and even then, it would be done grudgingly. Alyssa was not the kind of person to apologize and that was why I was finding it hard to believe.
Then my siblings started their snickers in the background, the tv they were watching was long forgotten as they turned to face us.
“Come up.” I said in a guff voice, hoping to avoid Celine and Michael nosy eyes.
“No.” My mother said when Alyssa took a step that brought her close to me.
“What? But she has always been allowed upstairs.” I protested immediately but my mother shook her head.
“That was before she became your girlfriend, now I have to watch you two. And you need to set a good example for your younger ones, I don’t want them thinking that it is right to take guys up to their bedrooms.” My mother returned as I cocked an eyebrow at her.
She do realize that me and Alyssa will be sharing an apartment in college right?
Well, I did not want to bring that to her knowledge right now but I will someday.
“Mom, me and Alyssa have some things to hash out.”
“Like the reason why my future car is keyed?” Michael asked.
“Like the reason why you are acting like a grouch since the date you had yesterday?” Celine added.
“Mom, this is the reason why I cannot have this conversation here.” I said rubbing my hand across my face.
Before my mother could reply, Alyssa jumped into my agreement of getting us alone time only to go the opposite direction I have been going.
“It is okay Mrs. Vegas, I am sure that Micah and I can manage here, I just want to apologize.” Alyssa said looking a little too pale for my liking.
I crossed my arms over my chest to prevent myself from going to her. “Very well then, let’s hear it.”
She paled before she mumbled something about her mother timed my reaction wrongly… “I am sorry.” She said.
My eyebrows jerked up in surprise, I did not know that she was truly going to apologize. I thought maybe she will end up making me apologize in her stead, it would not be the first time that she had done it.
“I know that it was not right for me to hug Jake and you had every right to be upset with me, I should not have ruined our wonderful time together by drawing out the issue when I should have just apologized, I am really sorry for that.” she said as she raised her head to look at me and I saw the sheen of tears in them.
And out went my self-control about not going to her, she was in my embrace before I even realized that I had moved, she was my kryptonite and I could not bear the thought of the fact that she was so burdened about it that she cried.
“Such a wimp, he could not even wait until she was done.” I heard one of the two devils whispered behind me, or rather, reduces her or his voice so my mother will not hear him but me and Alyssa could. It was only Michael that go through so much trouble so his number of hits from me would increase and I needed to go about dishing them out to him.
“I should have never keyed your car.” Alyssa rushed out. “I promise that I will take care of the repairs, I will make sure it is good as new, and I am so sorry for what I did, I blame it on being emotional at that time and thinking I was righteous in my anger.”
“Don’t you dare.” I responded as she looked at me in question, not getting the reason why I told her not to try it. “It will serve as memory. The very first time my girlfriend apologized to me, something she had not done in the lifetime that we were just friends.”
“Don’t count on it being a constant action for me.” She mumbled as I chuckled, relieved to see that the tears were no longer threatening.
“And this is the part where they get mushy and kiss.” A sigh accompanied those words. Celine. “It would have been nice to watch if he was not my brother.”
“Mom.” I complained as she sighed.
“Celine, Michael, go to your rooms and give your brother and his girlfriend some privacy.”
“But mom, they are better than the crap we watch on Tv.”
“And besides, you didn’t want them to have privacy that is why they are still here remember?” Michael added as my mother sighed.
“Okay you peanuts, scram to your room.” I said but they rolled their eyes at me.
“How about you just watch Tv with them, it would do you four some good to hang out with each other.” My mother said as I sighed then proceeded to lead Alyssa to the couch.
“You really are not going to repair your car?” Alyssa asked once we settled into the love seat together.
“Of course I won’t.” I replied, ignoring the eye rolls from Michael and Celine. “Why will I get rid of such prime evidence of a good story which I will tell our college buddies in college?”
Alyssa laughed at that. “I should be scared but I won’t be. I will be right beside you correcting all your little fibs to make the tale look far more interesting.” Alyssa returns.
In mock indignation, I added. “There is no reason for me to add to the story, you kneeling down to beg me is already enough juicy detail to tell them, why will I add what didn’t happen to it.”
“I never knelt down.” Alyssa shook her head at me before she curled into my arms.
I smiled as I gathered her close. Yeah, everything was alright in my world.
