Chapter 31
Alyssa POV
After controlling myself, I walked down to where the rest family is and sat down with them while we wait for Micah to come out, even if not better, he would get there someday. I have to keep reminding myself that Micah has 90% chance of survival that he will not be among the other 10%. He couldn't be, if he dares it, I would go into the afterlife after him so that I can drag him out then beat him within an inch of his life before forcing him back in his body. That made completely no sense but that is what I will try to do. That reminded me. I need to let my father know what is going on.
I got up and went to the hospital cafeteria where I ordered food and drinks for the Vegas, knowing them, they will probably stay in the position they are in until Micah leaves surgery and is out of danger and giving them grief about how they don't take care of their selves. I know all this because I will be right beside them getting scolded too. The major reason I left there was because I didn't know the health order about making phone calls there and didn't want to risk it affecting the machines the surgeons are using. The only reason why I am making calls here is because I saw people doing it and I have asked countless others if it is safe and when the hospital personnel assured me for the five hundredth time, I finally believed and went to make my call. I called my father who said he was at the airport to pick mother up and when I told him what is happening he said that he will be at the hospital as soon as he can.
When he rushed into the waiting room where the Vegas and I sat, that is when I knew that he didn't go back home and allow my mother to change, she is in her floral prints and didn't mind being dragged here without being allowed to change. In fact as soon as she saw me and wrapped her hands around me to offer comfort.
I forgot just how amazing my mother has been, I locked away those memories and tainted them believing that she forced herself to show those emotions because she didn't want to hurt my feelings. She really loves me and I know that she does now with that hug. I also know that we should sit down and talk about what I felt and why I felt that and talk about what happens next but we will do that later when Micah is in chemo maybe but not now while he is in surgery. The Vegas family doctor saw me looking in his direction and gave me a nod which I returned then after my mother let go of me, she greeted Micah family members too then settled down and began to talk with Mrs. Vegas, I looked at my father and I saw him already in a conversation with Micah father.
I would have smiled when I remembered what this situation reminded me of, if I had forgotten what this situation is really about. The situation reminded me of the times our family hanged out together. My mother would hug Micah that tight before greeting Mike then greet Celine and offer her some beauty tips before hugging Micah father and planting a kiss on his cheek before moving finally greeting Mrs. Vegas who she will spend the reminder time there, closer to. The same thing will happen with Micah father and mine while I and Micah will watch it happen, before we joke about our parents exchanging partners.
Only that this time. My parents are no longer partners except when it comes to me and Micah is right now in surgery to remove tumor from his brain. My head was swimming in the change. How could three months just change our lives drastically? The kind of change that even when repaired will show in our lives, for example, Micah can never do sports again and we are not so sure about his metal capacity and even if my father do remarry my mother, there will always be reference to that time when she decided she wanted to explore and started to sleep with other men. That is the only reason why she would divorce my father before her trip. It seems like I still have abandonment issues but I will sort it out. I will sort out by myself and if I can't sort it out, I will ask Micah for help but then again he would already be my boyfriend.
When they started laughing that was when my mind clicked back in place. I was so deep in my head that I didn't think about what was going on with them. I had tune them out without even realizing it. I started to pay attention to what they were talking about.
“Remember that time when Micah was sprinting and the school was cheering for him.” Micah father asked.
My father chuckles then replied. “Of course I remembered. Alyssa picked a fight with girls who were older than her because they were saying that they love Micah type of boys. "
“They pushed Alyssa down and when she started crying, Micah detoured from the race and ran to Alyssa instead. “My mother continued with tears in her eyes
“Then he gave them hell for what they did, not minding that they were older. That was the only race he failed but he was still treated like a winner because of the speed he used to reach Alyssa. “Micah mother concluded as she started sobbing.
Me? I saw red. How dare they talk about Micah using sad tones as if he was not going to make it, talking about past events as if he was already dead and they were already mourning him?
The rage propelled me to stomped over to them and stand in their front. "How dare you.” I gritted out with my eyes flashing.
“Alyssa are you okay. “My father asks as he moved towards me.
“Stop and stay away. How dare you guys talk as if he is dead, as if he doesn't have a chance of survival? “I screamed.
“Honey, calm down. “My mother started
“Don’t you dare tell me to calm down? If I hear one more talk about Micah memories as if you are already mourning him, I will make sure that the kind of embarrassment you will feel will be a measuring pole for others, both the ones that has happened and the future ones. “With that I stomped back to my seat and closed my eyes as tears rolled down my cheeks. My threat worked, I didn't hear a word from them again.
