Chapter 75

Chapter 75

She paused for a moment, then quickly recounted the story of Tim setting up the bet and throwing darts blindfolded.

But she left out the part about Jerry, unsure if he was telling the truth.

Clifford nodded. "The police have already sent a team to investigate, but the Blue Horizon Shipping chairman's body has been in the sea for a while. It's not easy to find."

Maybe the assassin banked on that, which is why they struck when they did.

"Can you remember anything else from that time?"

Camila shook her head. It all happened so fast; she didn't even see where the shot came from, just saw the man drop dead.

"Probably a competitor of the Garcia family who didn't want the deal to go through, so they resorted to dirty tricks."

They both fell silent, each having a pretty good idea who the competitor might be.

Camila lowered her eyes, thinking about recent events. Had Clifford disappeared for a while because of this?

—

Camila's injuries weren't severe, and she was able to leave the hospital after a couple of days.

Flying back home from Emberlyn took six hours. Camila leaned back in her seat and finally got some decent sleep.

When she got home, Fiona suggested she take a few days off, but Camila refused.

"What's the point of resting? There's a mountain of work waiting at the office. Besides..." She looked up at Fiona, "Haven't you already found some leads? I'm not afraid of stirring things up."

"Those leads are barely anything!" Fiona stomped her foot, handing over a stack of photos. "Just some blurry surveillance shots and a witness too scared to come forward. How's that supposed to prove your innocence?"

"It doesn't matter." Camila smiled, tapping the photos with her finger. "As long as there's something to go on, it's enough. What I'm about to reveal isn't for the police."

—

On her first day back at the office, she was swarmed by reporters as soon as she reached the entrance.

A male reporter in a suit was the first to speak, his tone sharp and mocking, "Ms. Wilson, it's been a while. Are you finally ready to clear your name?"

"Clear my name?"

Camila instinctively took a half-step back, raising her hand to block the microphone thrust in her face.

She smirked coldly, "What do I need to clear my name for? From start to finish, Emily's kidnapping had nothing to do with me. The police haven't even named me as a suspect, yet you all seem to think you know better than they do?"

A female reporter with glasses immediately chimed in, "But the police haven't ruled you out as a suspect either! A waiter even testified that he saw you in contact with the kidnappers."

Camila raised an eyebrow and took a step forward, her presence instantly overpowering the crowd.

"Perfect timing. I have some evidence the police haven't uncovered yet. Once I reveal it, everyone will know the truth. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have work to do."

With that, she turned and walked into the building. The reporters tried to follow, but the security guards, who had been pre-arranged, blocked their way.

The evidence reveal was done via a live broadcast on the company's official account, essentially putting everything on the line.

The camera lights flicked on, and the PR team took the stage.

"The Emily kidnapping and abuse case has had a severe impact. Due to some baseless rumors and irresponsible statements, Ms. Wilson's reputation has been greatly affected. Before we reveal the evidence, our company would like to state that any media or individuals who have spread or amplified false information will receive a legal notice from us and will be taken to court without exception."

Camila sat quietly to the side, listening.

Within the first minute of the live broadcast, the number of viewers skyrocketed, with comments flooding in like snowflakes, too fast to read.

"As for the evidence..." The PR director stepped back and gestured, "Ms. Wilson, please."

Camila stood up, her expression neutral, and signaled the staff to play the video.

The screen immediately showed surveillance footage.

It was of Fiona and Willie at a restaurant, talking to a waiter. There was no sound, but it was clear that the waiter was fidgety, constantly glancing around, and couldn't sit still, clearly extremely nervous.

The live comment section exploded.

[Oh my God, this waiter is so guilty! His body language is full of tells.]

[Yeah, who remembers something from a month ago so clearly? He didn't even blink while recounting it, obviously rehearsed!]

[I used to believe him, but now it looks like he was paid off.]

Camila watched the comments, a slight smile on her lips, but she said nothing, letting the staff continue playing the footage.

After Fiona and Willie left, the waiter didn't leave immediately. Instead, he quickly went to a corner of the restaurant, pulled out his phone, and made a call, glancing around nervously. Anyone could see something was off.

[Didn't the police question this waiter? This is too obvious.]

[Definitely suspicious! He probably took money to frame Camila.]

[The narrative is changing. Those who blamed Camila should apologize now.]

The first piece of evidence had sparked heated discussion.

As the comments began to shift in her favor, Camila finally spoke, her voice clear and calm, "Everyone, please be patient. There's more crucial evidence to come."

The screen switched to a dimly lit room.

The person on screen wore a hoodie, mask, and sunglasses, completely concealing their identity. Even their voice was altered, making it impossible to tell their gender.

"Please recount what happened."

The person nodded, nervously clutching their clothes, but spoke hesitantly, "A while ago, someone approached us, asking Anson to identify Camila in front of the police. They offered us $500,000..."

Anson was the kidnapper who had falsely accused Camila of staging the kidnapping to clear her name.

As soon as this was revealed, the live comment section went wild.

Camila stood in front of the camera, watching the comments scroll by, her eyes finally showing some warmth.

She signaled the staff to pause the video and spoke slowly, "We have already obtained the bank records of the person who paid Anson. This will be handed over to the police."

"As for those who deliberately spread false information and damaged my reputation," she paused, her tone firm and unyielding, "I will reserve the right to pursue legal action."
