Chapter 286 My Wife Trusts Me Very Much
Summer stared at the water in her glass, feeling uneasy inside.
"This morning when I went out, I ran into Mr. Wipere in the lobby. He ignored me and looked pretty cold. Mr. Wainwright," Summer turned around, her eyes full of worry, "I just feel so uneasy, really panicked. How about we go find him today and give him a proper apology?"
"Apologize to him for what?" John didn't think it was necessary.
Summer said worriedly, "From what Mr. Clark said, he knows we did this behind the scenes. I heard them mention that a female model before was forced out of the industry because of something like this, and now nobody even knows where she is. Will I end up the same way?"
"You're too nervous." John tapped her glass, "Drink some water."
Summer mechanically picked up the glass. The warm water slid down her throat, but it didn't help at all. She still felt anxious and blocked up inside.
"How can you compare yourself to her? That model wasn't famous and had no one backing her up. You have Mr. Clark backing you, what are you afraid of?" John took the glass from her hand. "Get some sleep first, rest up, and save your energy to chat more with the director and producer tonight."
Summer nodded and walked to the bed. "Mr. Wainwright."
She called out to him. John stepped back halfway and looked at her. "What else?"
Summer said, "Do you think Mr. Wipere has a wide network in the industry?"
John chuckled. "Him? He's doing okay in the business world, but in entertainment..." He curled his lip and shook his head with a smile. "He can't compare to Mr. Clark."
"Really?" Summer breathed a sigh of relief and lay down.
At the same time, Leopold received the dinner menu from Lily. After reviewing it carefully, he adjusted two dishes and told her to carry it out.
On his laptop screen, Leopold looked at the information Allegra had sent and said, "Only these hotels?"
Allegra said, "There are still two more that I need to negotiate personally. I'll make time to go there this weekend."
Leopold said, "Thanks for your hard work. If they can't meet our estimates, we don't have to go with them. Look for others."
Allegra said, "The budget is limited. These two have the best value for money."
Leopold nodded in understanding. "Alright, you decide. That's it for today's meeting."
Allegra saw him about to close the video. "Did you sort out that thing with the celebrity?"
Leopold was just about to take off his headphones. "You have time to look at entertainment gossip? I'm giving you too light a workload."
Allegra spread her hands. "OK, as long as you've sorted it out. I was just worried you and her would have problems because of this."
Leopold looked relaxed. "My wife trusts me."
Allegra looked at Leopold on the screen. In the past, he had an unsettling quality about him, but now he was full of a reassuring feeling. She had never understood what had happened to him, but now she finally got it,it was love.
Leopold had a sense of stability that many women found attractive.
Allegra said, "You found yourself a good wife. Treasure her."
Leopold smiled. "Of course. Bye."
He closed the video first. Allegra looked away, staring at the piles of documents on her desk, and started organizing them stack by stack.
Through this period of working together, Allegra's feelings towards Leopold were more about professional admiration. The man she once loved now only existed in past memories.
Leopold was right, instead of dwelling on the past, it's better to move forward.
People should move forward and look ahead.
To Allegra now, Leopold was just her boss, a work partner.
After ending the video conference, Leopold stretched his shoulders and neck, feeling exhausted.
He walked over to the sofa and sat down, putting his legs up on the footrest, and opened Caroline's WhatsApp, waiting to connect to video.
The video call rang for a long time without her answering. Leopold hung up and called Caroline's phone instead.
The phone rang seven or eight times before being answered. There was some noise on the other end.
"Honey..." Before he could continue, Caroline said, "Wait, I'll call you back in a bit."
She hung up on him again.
Leopold gripped the phone, puzzled.
After more than ten minutes, Caroline called back.
"I was just doing hospital admission paperwork. My grandma's not feeling well and got admitted."
Leopold immediately sat up straight. "When did this happen?"
Caroline said, "About half an hour ago. My grandpa called my mom saying my grandma was dizzy and feeling nauseous. She's had vertigo before, so I quickly drove to her place and brought her to the hospital."
Leopold got up to grab his car keys. "Which hospital?"
"Don't come back, it's too far." Caroline said, "I gotta go, I still need to get her medicine from the pharmacy."
"Which hospital?"
"Serenity Health Center."
With that, she hung up.
Leopold checked his watch. There was still an hour until the dinner party.
Ten minutes before the event, Leopold called Lily over. "I need to leave in the middle of it. Caroline's grandma is hospitalized, I have to go back."
Lily said, "Leave it to me."
The dinner started. Leopold first toasted the show's director and the artists. Lily had poured water in his glass. After saying a few brief words, he excused himself and left.
He had just walked out of the banquet hall when another figure followed closely behind.
Under the night sky, the parking lot was especially quiet. Leopold had his hand on the car door when he heard someone call from behind, "Mr. Wipere."
Leopold stopped what he was doing and turned to see Summer standing not far away. The streetlight happened to shine on her face, and he could tell she was very anxious and uneasy.
Summer walked towards him nervously. "Mr. Wipere, I have something I want to say to you."
Leopold instinctively looked towards the surveillance camera. This spot was blocked by a large tree. He didn't want to be used by her again. "Stop right there."
Summer immediately stopped. "Mr. Wipere, I don't mean anything by it. I just want to explain about the trending news."
Leopold frowned and pointed to the front of the car. "Stand over there and talk."
Seeing Leopold so guarded against her, Summer knew she had offended him. "Mr. Wipere, don't be afraid, no one's filming us. About the trending news, I actually didn't want it either."
Leopold's mind was still on Caroline at the hospital. "I have something urgent today. Whatever you need to say, say it tomorrow."
Seeing him about to leave, Summer knew she'd be leaving tomorrow, and who knows if there'd be another chance to meet. If she didn't explain things clearly, she worried she'd end up like that female model.
"Mr. Wipere," Summer rushed to stop Leopold. "Mr. Wipere, just give me a bit of your time. I just want to explain the whole thing to you."
Leopold said, "No need to explain. Mr. Clark and I have already talked about it, and I have an emergency right now."
Summer said, "Mr. Wipere, this wasn't my idea, it was... it was our..."
She couldn't bring herself to say it was the company's idea. That would be betraying Anthony, and he was her boss.
