Chapter 266 A Way Out
Nash froze completely, but quickly regained his composure. "Mr. Wipere, you shouldn't joke about things like that."
"Really? I also think it should be a joke." Leopold slowly stood up, speaking as he walked. "Caroline is indeed beautiful and kind-hearted, but she's too soft. She always gives second chances to those who've crossed the line, and they just take advantage of her more. But I'm different. I'm not that easy to talk to. Admit your mistake and correct it, and I can let you go. But if you refuse to repent, don't blame me for being ruthless."
Leopold walked behind Nash and placed his phone on the table, opening a video.
"Mr. Hearst, would you say the person in this video is you?"
Nash really wanted to say it wasn't him, but the footage was crystal clear, capturing him perfectly. There was no way to deny it.
Seeing him stare wide-eyed, mouth open but unable to speak, Leopold picked up his phone. "Can you explain why you've been blocking my wife again and again?"
Nash needed Leopold's help, and he was in the wrong for harassing Caroline. Either way, he had nowhere to hide his shame.
Before he could speak, Leopold gripped his shoulder hard. Nash's face twisted in pain.
Leopold said, "I thought something was off. What a coincidence, being Mr. Hearst's neighbor. Turns out Mr. Hearst had other intentions all along. You really spent big money for a woman."
Nash grimaced in pain. "I rented that place. Rented it."
Leopold sneered dismissively. "Do you enjoy this kind of thing, or do you get a kick out of taking what belongs to others? But before you make a move, you should know your place. To put it bluntly, would a woman protected by the alpha wolf even look at a coyote?"
Not a single curse word, yet the insult cut deep.
"You don't have any decent women around you, so you assume Caroline is like them. You underestimate her. No matter how well-dressed you are on the outside, it can't hide your inferior nature. You're not on the same level as her spiritually. You'll never understand her. You're not worthy."
"Don't speak too soon. It takes two people for this kind of thing." Nash decided to use his last chance to smear Caroline and damage their relationship. After all, no man could stay rational when facing his wife's affair during marriage. "She's not innocent either. You'd better go home and ask your wife about what happened between us."
Leopold's eyes darkened. "Stop disgusting me, and stop disgusting my wife. Those dirty thoughts in your head aren't even worth my time thinking about. Let me be straight with you—I trust her completely."
"Now I'll give you two choices: get out and go to Boston to build a factory and develop, to realize your life value. The other option is that I'll take this video and sue you until you're ruined, and kick your factory out of this circle."
When he heard the second option, Nash's eyes flickered, and a contemptuous smile appeared at the corner of his mouth. "You think you have that power?"
Leopold slowly leaned down, patted his shoulder, and warned, "Nash, you know very well that I do. If I could invite them here today, I could set up a death trap tomorrow."
Nash swallowed. Given today's connections, he definitely had that capability.
But Nash's pride got in the way—he didn't want to admit defeat to Leopold.
"Have you decided?" He asked coldly.
Nash clenched his fists. Reality forced him to bow his head. Leopold had him by the throat. The submarine cable project was something he'd always wanted but could never get, and Caroline was a woman he wanted to possess but would never have.
Between reality and emotion, he chose reality. But only he knew that his love for Caroline would become his eternal regret.
She really was a good woman.
He said, "I'll go to Boston."
Leopold let out a very light laugh through his nose and said contemptuously, "Remember your choice today. If you harass my wife again, you won't just be unable to survive in Boston—you won't be able to stay in this industry at all."
Nash lowered his eyes. He'd never felt so helpless. He wanted to explain things clearly to Leopold. "She and I—"
"Shut up. You have no right to mention her." Leopold grabbed Nash by the collar and lifted him up. His eyes were bloodshot, his gaze fierce. Gone was his usual refined composure, replaced by an aura of danger.
With a crack, he pressed a sharp, broken bottle against Nash's neck and said viciously, "If you throw any more dirt on my wife, you'll have no way out."
He threw Nash back hard into the chair. "Remember this, Nash. Disappear completely from my wife's sight. If you can't do it, I'll make you disappear."
After the door closed, Nash closed his eyes and let out a long breath.
Leopold wasn't just talking earlier—he meant what he said and would do it.
The door to the private room opened again. Nash flinched instinctively, but saw Caroline walk in.
Nash was stunned for a moment and instinctively straightened his clothes and hair. "Why are you here?"
Caroline saw the broken glass on the floor, one piece still stained with blood. She looked away and said, "Nash, I used to respect you, but what you did later was both despicable and disgusting. Is sex all you can think about? Can't you think about something else? If my husband suffers any harm today because of your stupid actions, I'll make you pay."
Nash took a deep breath. "I'm sorry. I apologize for my previous offenses. I won't harass you anymore."
Caroline's gaze was cold. "I don't accept it. Also, you're not worth my husband's effort. Someone like you really isn't worth him lifting a finger."
With that, Caroline left.
When she chased after him, Leopold's car was already gone. She quickly ran to the roadside and hailed a taxi.
When Caroline entered the house, she didn't see Leopold. Remembering his injured hand, she turned around and went back downstairs.
Sure enough, in the parking garage, she saw the Cayenne parked in its spot with the interior light on. He was sitting in the driver's seat, treating the wound on his hand.
The car window was knocked three times. Leopold looked up, saw Caroline standing outside, and got such a fright that his hand shook and the bandage fell off.
He hurriedly picked it up. Before he could apply it properly, he rolled down the window a crack and called out cheerfully, "Honey."
"What are you doing?" She looked inside.
"Nothing," Leopold applied the bandage carelessly before opening the car door and getting out. "Are you done eating? How was it? Did everything go smoothly today?"
Caroline stared at his face. "What were you doing in the car just now?"
"Nothing. Don't you believe me? What, you think I'm hiding a woman?" Leopold used his other hand to open the car door. "Look. Am I hiding anyone?"
Caroline grabbed his arm. "Don't move. Let me see."
"Let's go upstairs. Once we're upstairs, I'll strip naked for you to look." Leopold pulled away his injured hand, locked the car, and pulled her toward the elevator.
Caroline said nothing the whole way, but her eyes had already noticed that his bandage wasn't properly applied.
Once they got inside, she pulled him to the living room and sat him down on the sofa. "Sit still and don't move."
Leopold put his hand behind a cushion and smiled mischievously. "Honey, what do you want to do? I just had some drinks, so I might not be very cooperative."
While she went into the room, he quickly sent Maddox a message.
North: [Where did you guys have dinner tonight?]
Maddox replied: [Gastronomy Royale.]
Leopold was so speechless that he wanted to curse.
Caroline came back carrying a medicine box. Leopold's smile grew even wider. Now that he'd been discovered, how could he keep up the act?
She glanced at him. Leopold said, "And you're glaring at me."
Caroline said, "Take out your hand."
"Use my hand?" He smiled wickedly.
Caroline pouted, clearly angry.
"Leopold, I'm giving you one last chance."
He held out his hand. "When did you figure it out?"
Caroline took out disinfectant and knelt at his feet. "That was ages ago."
Watching her carefully disinfect the wound and apply a cute bandage, he pulled her into his arms and onto his lap.
"So, did it feel good?"
