Chapter 237 For Fame
"Dash drug dealing? That can't be right, can it? Maybe there's some misunderstanding? I could believe he might skim from hotel purchasing, but something that could cost him his life. I don't think he'd dare." Caroline shook her head.
Her suspicion came from what Leopold had mentioned about Dash's character.
He took a mouthful of food and said, "I think the same as you. But when it comes to drug trafficking, the police can't just wrongfully accuse him. I've already contacted a lawyer and asked him to go over and check the situation."
Caroline asked, "Has the lawyer gotten back to you?"
"Not that fast."
Caroline said, "Shouldn't Mr. Anderson be handling this?"
Logically speaking, since Dash was Xavier's nephew, he should be the one stepping up to bail him out.
"That's true, but he doesn't speak Italian and has no connections in Eldoria. Going there would be pointless, he couldn't solve anything."
After dinner, she packed her luggage while he cleared the table.
Leopold finished quickly too. When he went to the walk-in closet, he saw Caroline holding two shirts up to the mirror, comparing them.
Seeing him come in, she asked, "Which one do you like?"
Leopold leaned against her back, his hands naturally wrapping around her slender waist, "They're both white shirts, either one's fine."
"They're different," she raised her left hand, "This one's a basic formal style." Then raised her right hand, "This one has subtle striped patterns."
Leopold said, "Stop choosing, take them both. You're wasting time when I could be holding you."
Caroline dodged his wandering hands at her waist, "Stop it, I'm not done packing yet."
She crouched down to continue organizing. Leopold sat cross-legged beside her, propping his chin on his hand, head tilted, staring at Caroline the whole time.
From the corner of her eye, his gaze felt intense. Caroline felt uncomfortable, "Don't look at me like that."
Leopold said, "You're beautiful, why can't I look?"
Caroline smiled and continued packing, "How many days are you going for?"
"Expected to be a week, but depends on the situation."
The back of her shirt rode up as she bent over, exposing part of her waist. He placed his hand protectively on her waist, and Caroline tugged at her clothes herself.
"Lily once told me about back pain. I said I'd get her an ergonomic chair, but she said it wasn't the chair, she'd caught a chill."
Caroline turned around, "No wonder you know so much about it."
Leopold laughed, "Good thing I explained."
At first, she didn't react, but when it hit her, Caroline turned around, "I wasn't reading into it anyway."
Leopold nodded, "Weren't reading into it, hurry up and finish packing so we can sleep early."
Caroline blinked, "I'm not tired."
"Even better if you're not tired, we can do something else."
"Then I'm tired."
"If you're tired, sleep now."
Now she was stuck, saying she was tired didn't work, saying she wasn't didn't work either.
Leopold waited another half hour, his hand gently stroking her back, "Done packing yet? Once you're done, let's go to bed?"
Caroline grabbed the suitcase, speaking a bit frantically, "Not done yet, I still need to pack some other things for you."
Leopold put his arm around her waist, lifted her up effortlessly, slung her over his shoulder, and said with a smile, "In this box, the only thing missing is you."
Caroline hung upside down on his back, her view inverted, "Put me down, put me down now."
Just as they were about to enter the bedroom, she grabbed the doorframe. "I don't want to sleep, my legs still hurt."
Leopold removed her hand, "Change positions, and it won't hurt."
"I don't..." Before she could finish, he'd already tossed her onto the bed.
The mattress had good bounce, her vision swayed, and then she saw Leopold leaning over her.
That night went as he'd said.
Leopold drove to the apartment building where Lily lived. She was already waiting by the roadside, put her suitcase in the trunk, opened the door and got in.
For this trip to Eldoria, he had to bring Lily, the lawyer representing Dash's case was Lily's college classmate.
"Is Caroline feeling better?" Lily asked with concern as she got in.
Her incident had already made it onto Seaside City television.
Leopold said, "Nothing serious, she's resting at home. She'll be back at work tomorrow."
"You didn't make her rest for a couple more days? I saw the news, the flood at the scene was terrifying. I can't imagine what would have happened if she'd fallen in."
Leopold said helplessly, "My say doesn't count. If it were up to her, she would've gone back to work the next day."
Lily said, "Listen to her when you should, but not about this kind of thing. Make her rest more, don't let there be any lasting effects."
Leopold glanced in the rearview mirror at the car behind, wanting to pass, and turned on his signal.
The car stopped in the airport's underground parking garage. Before leaving, Lily took a photo of the parking space number to avoid forgetting and not being able to find the car.
Before boarding, Lily got a call from Solstice Mountain Hotel, "What? I didn't know about this. Wait, let me ask Mr. Wipere."
Leopold was video chatting with Caroline. Hearing this, he turned his face. "What's up?"
Lily said, "Some celebrity wants to switch rooms, says you know about it."
Leopold had already guessed who it was.
"Did you agree?"
Leopold's answer was straightforward, "Don't know about it."
Lily understood, and put the phone back to her ear, "Tell them that the production team hasn't sent any notification, so we can't switch rooms right now."
Lily said, "I really don't get what this celebrity is thinking. If we don't switch rooms, they'll definitely be unhappy, but if we do switch, we'll be the ones in the wrong."
Leopold said, "What's not to get? To become famous, in some celebrities' eyes, even bad publicity is publicity. As for methods and means, they don't care at all."
Lily shook her head, "True enough, being a celebrity isn't something ordinary people can do."
The announcement started calling for boarding. Leopold closed the video chat, got up and helped Lily pull her luggage toward the gate.
Just after sitting down in their seats on the plane, Leopold's phone rang. Looking at the number, it was John, the production team's director. He answered.
John said, "Mr. Wipere, I'm John, the production team's director. We met at your company last time."
"I remember."
John laughed awkwardly, "Mr. Wipere, I wanted to discuss something with you, you see..."
Leopold said, "Sorry, John, I'm on a plane, about to take off. Let's talk after I land, okay?"
"Where are you going?"
"Italy."
John was a bit surprised, "How long will you be gone?"
"Not sure, about a week."
John thought about it, in a week, the show would be starting to film.
"We'll talk later, John."
Leopold hung up and switched his phone to airplane mode.
Lily looked at his expression and asked, "The celebrity who wants to switch rooms?"
Leopold laughed dismissively, "She wouldn't dare. She definitely found someone to speak for her. Got the company's director to call me."
Lily did not comment, just smiled faintly.
The plane landed at the airport.
The person in charge of picking up the plane was Jack Thorne, the attorney representing the Dash case. The meeting between old classmates was particularly cordial.
Lily said, "You're still the same, but more handsome."
Jack laughed, "You haven't changed either, even more beautiful."
The three walked toward the terminal exit. Leopold asked, "How's Dash's situation?"
Jack's smile faded. "The situation's not great."
